Regular bloggee 1saac W. returns to TLCB with something rather more wooden than we’re used to seeing in automotive circles. Inspired by a real hot rod, 1saac’s wood-panelled rat rod includes Winnie the Pooh stickers, white-wall tyres, and the jauntiest front axle we’ve seen in some time. Head to Flickr to take a look.
You’re never more than 6ft from a rat. Or something. We’re OK with that here at TLCB Towers, because we’re certainly never more than 6ft away from a TLCB Elf, which is probably worse.

TLCB likes rat rods. They’re effectively recycling on wheels. This Lego Ford-based rat comes from TLCB favourite _Tyler, who was inspired by another, much larger, Lego creation that featured here back in 2018. Head to Flickr to take a look.
It’s Valentines Day, and the office here a TLCB Towers is filled with piles of cards from our admirers.
Wait, that’s not right. We mean it’s filled with messages from ‘instructions plz’ enquirers. That and ‘Get cheap Cialis here’ comments which we have to delete by the dozen. We suppose that those are kinda Valentine’s-related though?
Anyway, in other tenuous Valentines-linked news, this is PleaseYesPlease‘s wonderful Renault Dauphine rat rod, which is based on a real-world car by Instagramer ‘Oxtaco’.
Oxtaco transplanted a Volkswagen VR6 motor in place of the tiny original 845cc Renault engine, giving his Dauphine a much bigger heart (see, Valentines!).
Plus there’s probably a joke about putting something large inside something small, but with this writer and your Mom it’s the opposite, and either way we’ll probably have to delete more Cialis comments.

You don’t need a million bricks and a friend at (or to work for) The Brothers Brick to be appear on a great Lego blog. OK, you do, but you don’t need those things to appear here! A few well selected pieces, excellent presentation, and talent will be just fine, as proven here by Tim Henderson and his lovely ‘East Coast Style’ ’32 Ford hot rod. This is Tim, and this is his 1965 Chevrolet Sportvan, complete with vintage slot-mag wheels, flat-black paint, a modded 230ci inline-6, shag carpet interior, and more than a little rust*.

Heavy duty applications such as pick-ups, trucks, boats, and trains all benefit from the fuel efficiency and torque that diesel engines offer.
However the passenger car market, which here in Europe was once around 50% diesel, was sold a lie. Now realised, the diesel car market has collapsed, and manufacturers can’t get rid of their diesel products soon enough.
However an engine type that’s noisy, dirty, and obsolete may be wholly unsuited to a small European shopping car (apart from to dodge CO2 taxation), but it’s literally everything you could want in a rat rod!
Cue Sin City Motors’ wild Caterpillar diesel engined half-track rat rod, recreated here by TLCB favourite Redfern1950s in superb form.

Redfern1950s has given himself a lift. Published here earlier in the month, we titled Red’s rat rodded school bus after the name your Mom used ‘professionally’, and – just like your Mom – Red’s recently enhanced things to make them a whole lot more… noticeable. Coincidentally the name your Mom had when your Dad first met her at the bar where she worked, and also today’s title, befitting this glorious rat rodded school bus by previous bloggee and Master MOCer Redfern1950s (aka red 2).
With an exposed Cummins diesel up front and a roof-chop the length of the seating area this probably isn’t as comfortable transport as it once was, but kids are short and who wouldn’t want to go to school in this?

Diesel has become a bit of a dirty word of late. We have Volkswagen to thank for that, but the fuel from the black pump was dirty anyway, they just got caught being particularly loathsome. However diesel is still useful, being much more suited to high-torque applications than petrol whilst producing less CO2 (the key driver behind climate change), and being more energy dense too, thereby making it more efficient.
We expect none of that thinking went into the D-Rod, a rat rod built for the ‘Welderup’ TV show from a 1920s Dodge that uses an enormous Cummins diesel truck engine because, well… why not? The result is, er… just watch this.
Fun as that looks we wouldn’t fancy breathing what comes out of the D-Rod, so this superb brick-built replica by Redfern 1950s will do us nicely instead. Red’s Model Team replica of the ‘Welderup’ D-Rod captures the look of the real car beautifully, yet it won’t give everyone standing near it lung cancer. The Lego Car Blog staff writers and Elves are in rare agreement today; we all want this wild M35A2 (Deuce and a Half) rat rod for real. Based on an M35A2 military truck, Tim Inman‘s rat rod has been ‘lowered, chopped, channeled, stretched and bobbed’ according to the builder, and – most importantly for the Elves at least – it includes skull rear light assembly. We don’t think we’ve ever wanted a vehicle more. You’ll find us on Flickr via the link above, dreaming of whether we could create a vehicle with the same effect using TLCB’s old LDV delivery van…
We like the look of Pat Lacroix’s garage! With a decidedly post-apocalyptic air Pat’s ‘Rat Trike‘ and ‘Rally Towing‘ manage to appear as if they’re assembled from junkyard parts and also look completely beautiful at the same time.

This is a Hummer rat rod, and it’s a vehicle is so manly that if you’re reading this and you’re a girl (what? We get girls here too) you’re probably pregnant. It’s based on a real car and comes from previous bloggee ianying616, who has used train doors, bendy pipes and a whole lot of black to recreate the insanity of the real vehicle.
