Planets over Posturing

The mobile rocket launcher is to the under-endowed despot what the ageing BMW blasting terrible music is to the urban douchebag; A tragic exercise in ‘pay attention to me!’, usually spotted driving slowly through a city at great inconvenience to everyone else.

But not today! Because this mobile rocket launcher belongs to the perennially happy mini-figures of Classic Space, whose endeavours contrast markedly from those of the sullen dictator, whose rocket-transporting wares this site has occasionally featured.

TLCB debutant Jan Schönherr-Wacker is the builder of this fantastic reimagining of the vintage 6950 Mobile Rocket Transport from 1982, which is found not parading pointlessly in Red Square or Pyongyang, but diligently at work on the surface of a far off planet.

Eight enormous wheels, a slewing and pivoting rocket launcher, a crew of three Classic Spacemen, and a huge rocket all feature, and you can see more of Jan’s incredible 6950 redux at his photostream. Click the link above to take a closer look at a rocket launcher most noble.

If Only the World were a bit more Classic Space

The world could learn something from LEGO’s perennially smiling Classic Spacemen, peacefully conducting whatever research and exploration missions their giant fleshy masters directed them towards.

First featured here over five years ago, TLCB favourite Billyburg has recently updated his 6950 Rocket Launcher redux, and we like it more than ever. Of course this being a Classic Space vehicle the rockets on board Billyburg’s 8×8 transport are not firing Russian implements of death at airliners, rather satellites for, well… we’re not sure, but we bet it’s something wholesome.

There’s more to see of Billyburg’s brilliant 6950 redux at his photostream – click here to head into Classic Space.

Lego Rocket Launcher

Everyone likes a big rocket,* and Flickr’s Billyburg has got two! They’re mounted on the back of his Mobile Intergalactic Rocket Command vehicle, a reimagining of LEGO’s own 6950 Classic Space set. See more at the link above.

The rescue of 6950

Long ago, during the Classic Space era, the exploration rover 6950 was sent into uncharted territory. Communications were lost, and the brightly coloured pioneer was doomed to forever rest in the relentlessly grey landscape of Classic Space. Until now. Chris Melby aka ZeeMasterBrick decided the plight of 6950 was worth action, and in response he built the monstrous ‘Archimedes III’ recovery vehicle you see above. Sadly it looks as though 6950’s original crew all perished, but no doubt they were smiling as only Classic Spacemen can. See more of the recovery on MOCpages and Flickr.
