Is there anything more 1970s than a brown police car crashing through some gratuitously placed boxes? Of course not, and Flickr’s SvenJ. takes us straight to ‘The Streets of San Francisco’ with this fabulous early-’70s Ford Galaxie as driven by Lieutenant Mike Stone and Inspector Steve Keller. Usually through some gratuitously placed boxes.

Clever building techniques and wonderful detailing match the top quality presentation, and there’s lots more of Sven’s seventies Galaxie to see via the link above. Plus you can hear tyres squealing on gravel and watch a few shots used twice in the hope TV audiences wouldn’t notice in this glorious ‘The Streets of San Francisco’ montage!

Like animals, space has proven a popular them for car names. Particularly at Ford, who have used Orion, Zodiac, Starliner, Comet, and Meteor, along with this; the Galaxie. Which is spelt wrong.

Although Ford corrected the spelling in 1995, we rather prefer the mis-spelt original, which IBrickedItUp has recreated beautifully in brick form. Lego 1966 Ford Galaxie 500

This gorgeous 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 comes from Jonathan Derksen of Flickr and MOCpages, and whilst this blog has been known to slate enormous American barges, there will be no such commentary today. That’s because the Galaxie, fitted here with the 428 V8 from the Thunderbird, was rather wonderful. It even found fame on the racetracks of Britain (despite never being sold in the UK), where it went up against the Jaguars, European Fords, and Minis that raced side-by-side in the British Touring Car Championship.
