Monorail!* | Picture Special

Like any LEGO fan who grew up in the ’90s, this TLCB Writer would give an internal organ, even a big one, to get his hands on a LEGO monorail.

Flickr’s martin.with.bricks. doesn’t need to forgo a body part, because he already owns the best LEGO set ever made, and has redeployed it to create this fabulous ‘Space Monorail Station’.

Packed with wonderful spacecraft, speeders, hover-tugs, aliens, a glorious Futuron-style monorail train, plus an entire second monorail based on LEGO’s rollercoaster tracks, Martin’s colossal Space Monorail Station is the sort of creation that makes you want to shrink yourself to mini-figure size to wander through it.

You can jump into all the imagery of Martin’s ‘Space Monorail Station’ at his album of the same name, where TLCB Staff will be both pretending they’re 3cm tall, and wondering which organ they could do without.

Prime Mover

When space travel finally becomes commonplace, we’re pretty sure it won’t be star-fighters or giant space robots occupying the void. No, it’ll be humble utility vehicles, ferrying stuff from somewhere to somewhere else, so that Jonathan from Dallas can get a new cat scratching post by tomorrow lunchtime.

Cue spaceruner’s excellent ‘FT23W3’, a ‘Futuron Worker Class Utility Spacecraft’ complete with a crew of three, an on-board last-mile delivery vehicle, and a big yellow crate full of pointless Amazon Prime orders.

Apart from needing a crew (the space delivery ships of the future will surely be drones), we reckon spaceruner’s creation could well be an accurate window into the not too distant future of seriously boring space travel*. There’s more of it to see on Flickr, and you can click the link above to choose your shipping option.

*Why else would Jeff Bezos be going up there?

The Future Belongs to the Nerds

In fact the present probably does too.

Is it engineers and racing drivers that develop cars today? Of course not, it’s software developers, writing a billion lines of code. Every part of modern life is controlled by code writers, and even those that seem cool now got to where they did by being massive nerds, however much they try to reinvent the person of their past.

Cue TFDesigns! aka Frost, who has entered this year’s Febrovery annual build-off (itself a pretty nerdy thing) with his ‘Futuron MoLab’; a big white box designed purely for science. What science we’re not told, but it looks really very nerdy indeed, so it must be important. Probably a new advert algorithm for Facebook or something.

Whatever it’s up to there’s more to see at Frost’s photostream – join the nerds writing the future via the link above.

Lego Futuron Space Tank

The peaceful Futuron people from LEGO’s veteran space era seem to have got a whole lot more fighty in recent times. Suggested by a reader this mighty Futuron space tank comes from previous bloggee and Master MOCer Andrea Lattanzio aka Norton 74, and it’s here to finally kick some Blacktron ass.

We’re going to use this post to suggest that despite their longstanding bitterness the black side and the white side are actually exactly the same underneath their spacesuits, and that guns do not, have never, and never will, solve any community division. Seriously America, the rest of world is watching and wondering what the hell you’re doing to each other.

Anyway, you can check out Futuron’s bold new militarised direction at Norton’s photostream – click here to take a look.
