To the Joust!

Decidedly not a car, but thoroughly charming nonetheless, is Clemens Schneider‘s wonderfully whimsical horse and cart, entitled ‘On the way to Summer Joust’. A brick-built horse and knights add to the magic (although we’d definitely rather be the one in the cart), and you join them on their medieval journey at Clemen’s photostream. Head to the joust via the link above!

Wagon Wheels

This is not a car. But it is transport, and it is beautiful, so here it is. Built by Montgomery Burns this excellent wagon scene is titled simply ‘small diorama’ and there’s more to see of it and the amazing wider world in which this features via the link above.

Rock Blunts Scissors

Lego Indiana Jones Tank

And tanks apparently. There was a point in time where tanks and horses fought side-by-side (and against one another) on the battlefield. At first it was definitely better to be on the horse, but so quick was the pace of development that just a few short years later the tank – and the various other machinery designed for us to kill one another more efficiently – had all but eradicated the horse from use in war. Which is good news for horses.

However that didn’t stop Indiana Jones who, in ‘The Last Crusade’ (which sadly proved not to be thanks to the dreadful 2008 return), used his hoofed companion to shove a rock down the barrel of a tank cannon.

In reality this would probably just mean you got killed by both a rock and a tank shell, but hey – this is the movies! This glorious recreation of the famous scene from 1989’s ‘Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade’ comes from Flickr’s Joshua Brooks aka JBIronworks who has recreated both the Nazi tank and the scene’s dynamism brilliantly in Lego form.

There’s more to see of mini-figure Indiana Jones’s rock-based sabotage on Flickr via the link above, and in case you want to see the real one doing just the same click here to watch the original scene on YouTube.

Dentistry Unchained

Lego Django Unchained Cart

Django Unchained’s Dr. King Schultz, performing orthodontics from town to town in his horse-drawn dentistry. Hopefully not whilst it’s moving though. This ace little build comes from Flickr’s speedyhead (which is coincidentally a nickname your Mom used to have too), and there’s more to see via the link.

Once Upon a Time in the West

Lego Western Train Robbery

Yes it’s no use saying that you don’t know nothing
It’s still gonna get you if you don’t do something
Sitting on a fence that’s a dangerous course
Oh, you could even catch a bullet from the peace-keeping force
Even the hero gets a bullet in the chest
Oh yeah, once upon a time in the west

Our obscure British music theme continues here at The Lego Car Blog. If that’s not your thing (and if it isn’t, take a long look at yourself), perhaps try this alternative. Oh, the model! This superb Western train robbery scene comes from Flickr’s markus19840420 (there must be a lot of Markuses on Flickr) and there’s more to see by clicking here.

I’m a Wanderer

Lego Gypsy Wagons

Most of the gypsy/traveller vehicles that we see near TLCB Towers are not like these. New Toyota Hilux and Range Rovers with private number plates seem to be the preferred choice at the moment, but very occasionally we do see travelling done the traditional way.

These beautiful Polish gypsy wagons by Flickr’s Karwik remind us of a time when there was only one horse power available up front. Click here to go travelling.

Not a Car

Lego Hay Cart

But still rather lovely. Previous bloggee Karwik‘s brilliant hay cart can be found on Flickr. Click the link for more pictures.

Flogging a dead horse

The new Lego Horse

To the glue factory!

Exciting news! But not if you’re a lover of the old Lego horse. Lego has decided that our favourite plastic companion needs an update, and so the old Lego horse, released way back in the ’80s, is to be retired. Its replacement is a more detailed creature, and Lego have added a great big dollop of poseablilty too, so it can rear up, jump, and generally be a more playable element. We’ll see the new horse in stores later this year.
