TLCB Elves are all happily watching ‘Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark’ today, thanks to previous bloggee _Tyler and this excellent recreation of the 1937 Mercedes-Benz 320 Staff Car that starred in the movie.

A recreation of a real 1937 Mercedes-Benz 320 itself, the movie car saw action in a chase involving a several vintage German vehicles, a gaggle of Nazis (we’re not sure their collective noun is), and a horse, with the car eventually coming off worse in an exchange with Dr. Jones’ stolen military truck.

Rock-Horse-Tank

It’s just like Rock-Paper-Scissors, except Tank smushes Horse, Horse kicks Rock, and Rock explodes Tank. At least according to ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’.

Don’t worry, they didn’t smush a horse, but the tank was defeated by a rock deftly placed by the titular hero.

Recreating that iconic movie scene is Viktor Faldt, who has recreated the (fictional) Nazi tank complete with a detailed interior and engine, rotating guns, a mini-figure crew, plus Indiana Jones, a horse, and a rock.

Lao Che Air Freight

Almost entirely known for their cars and pickups, Ford also once made aircraft. The 1930s Ford Tri-Motor was much admired, with around 200 built for civilian and military use before the Second World War.

It was also the aircraft of choice for Indiana Jones’ protagonist in ‘The Temple of Doom’ being operated by the evil Lao Che and his air freight business.

This superb render of the Tri-Motor in ‘Lao Che Air Freight’ livery comes from Robson of Flickr, who has captured the real plane and its fictional operator brilliantly.

Torpedo!

This interesting grey machine is a 1928 Renault CV Torpedo, which somewhat surprisingly is a car we’ve probably all seen before, as it featured in a convoy scene from ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’. A lot of stuff blew up in that movie though, so we’d forgotten it too. Anyway, this neat Lego version comes from Owen Meschter of Flickr, and you can recreate the vintage chase scene in the desert via the link to his photostream above!

TLCB doesn’t care much for old-timey wingadinga type cars. Nor brown cars. This is both.

Despite those drawbacks though, it is wonderful, being a 1915 Saxon Model 14 from previous bloggee _Tyler, who has both built and presented his model superbly.

It’s also a car that featured in ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ (albeit incorrectly, being as it was set in 1912), hence the moustaches and headgear as equally old-timey as the car.

Lego Indiana Jones Tank

And tanks apparently. There was a point in time where tanks and horses fought side-by-side (and against one another) on the battlefield. At first it was definitely better to be on the horse, but so quick was the pace of development that just a few short years later the tank – and the various other machinery designed for us to kill one another more efficiently – had all but eradicated the horse from use in war. Which is good news for horses.

However that didn’t stop Indiana Jones who, in ‘The Last Crusade’ (which sadly proved not to be thanks to the dreadful 2008 return), used his hoofed companion to shove a rock down the barrel of a tank cannon.

In reality this would probably just mean you got killed by both a rock and a tank shell, but hey – this is the movies! This glorious recreation of the famous scene from 1989’s ‘Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade’ comes from Flickr’s Joshua Brooks aka JBIronworks who has recreated both the Nazi tank and the scene’s dynamism brilliantly in Lego form.

Lego Indiana Jones The Last Crusade Motorcycle

There’s only been one post between Ralph Savelsberg‘s last creation to appear here and this one, but unlike the Indiana Jones movie franchise all of Ralph’s efforts continue to yield excellent results.

His latest model is the BMW R75 military motorcycle and sidecar that starred in the superb 1989 film The Last Crusade, complete with Indiana himself and his father as passenger. There’s lots more to see at Ralph’s photostream – click the link above to make the jump.

Lego Hot Rod

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull sucks. Really sucks. But unnecessary, unimaginative and cynical as it is, the two hour turd still features the usual range of excellent Indiana Jones vehicles. This one appeared in the opening title road race scene (perhaps the best part of the movie) and is built by BMW_Indy on Flickr. See more at the link.

Lego Mark VIII Tank Indiana Jones

The Lego Car Blog Elves have moved on from the Transformers movies, having since discovered the ’80s gems from the Indiana Jones franchise. Indiana might be the star, but it’s his Nazi enemies that get the best toys. This one though, is actually British, so we’re not sure how the Nazi’s got their hands on it in the movie The Last Crusade. No matter, because it’s damn cool and JBIronWorks‘ Lego recreation of the Mark VIII International tank used in the 1989 blockbuster is too. See all the photos on Flickr at the link.
