Onward Guinevere!

The Elves is Disney movies do not look like those here at TLCB Towers. Probably because Disney don’t want their young audience members to scream/cry/vomit. Cue 2020’s ‘Onward’, in which two ‘Elf’ brothers undertake an epic adventure in an old van, which recent bloggee Tim Inman has recreated beautifully in brick form.

Complete with rusty sills, a detailed interior behind a sliding door, and a fabulous brick-built pegasus mural, Tim’s Model Team ‘Guinevere’ is one of our favourite creations of the year so far. There’s much more to see at Tim’s photostream and you can join two Elves on the road trip of a lifetime via the link above, whilst we look at ours and ponder our choices.

Onward Guinevere!

It’s normally the inside of an old van that has all the illegal stuff…

This is ‘Guinevere’, the pegasus-painted van of the elven protagonists in Pixar’s ‘Onward’, and it’s got more illegal moves than Max Verstappen.

Held together by a combination of immense skill and hope (we suspect there’s a reason this model is only photographed from one side!), 1saac W.‘s remarkable creation pushes the limits of brick-based building.

Take a closer look at 1ssac’s photostream, just don’t try to pick it up.

Using Tongue

Lightning McQueen has deployed his tongue to get over the finish line first in Bousker‘s scene from the movie ‘Cars’, which captures the trio of racing protagonists wonderfully. Will McQueen’s tongue win him the cup? Take a look via the link above.

Incredibile

It’s been twenty years since Disney Pixar’s best ever movie premiered in cinemas. Pre-dating the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all but the first Spiderman film, and about 76 other subsequent superhero movies because Hollywood was too unimaginative to make anything else, ‘The Incredibles’ perfectly captured the zeitgeist.

Depicting a forgotten genre of superheroes, forced into hiding, and waiting for the world to need them once more, Pixar’s beautiful retro aesthetic paid homage to the comics books of the past, whilst simultaneously pushing the boundaries of digital animation.

Recreating Mr. Incredible’s ‘Incredibile’ from Pixar’s movie masterpiece, Flickr’s SFH_Bricks has reproduced the movie’s iconic car superbly in brick form, and you can create it for yourself as he’s also produced building instructions.

There’s more to see at SFH’s ‘Incredibile’ album, and you can jump back to the greatest heroes of the 2000’s via the link above.

Trouble At Mill…

DD

Regular readers will be all too aware of how our workforce enjoy using their finds of Lego machines to attack and smush each other. Unfortunately it looks as though this sort of behaviour is spreading, as witnessed here in Gary Davis’ Duelling Diggers.

Gary was commissioned to build these and other models for this animated advert, encouraging people into careers in the construction industry. The film is short and fun and well worth watching (a bit like our Elves). Whilst you’re doing that we’ve got to mend the TLCB photocopier, as one of the cross beams has gone out of skew on the treadle

The LEGO Movie, Movie

Bricks in Motion

We loved The Lego Movie here at TLCB. In fact we quite like Lego movies in general – and there are some great short films made from little plastic blocks on the ‘net. Bricks in Motion aim to bring us another one, and in Inception-like ‘dream within a dream’ madness their Lego stop-motion film is about Lego stop-motion films.

You can wrap your head around it via their introductory video below, and if you’d like to support the Bricks in Motion project you can join them via Kickstarter – there’s just a few days to go!
