Toyota TS030

Hybrids, so long a favourite of tree hugging hippy types, are starting to get cool. Porsche’s 918, Ferrari’s LaFerrari, McLaren’s P1 and modern Formula 1 cars are changing the perception of what a hybrid can do. Toyota, one of the first to make hybrid technology work in the real world, took their TS030 hybrid racer to Le Mans this year, finishing second to a hybrid Audi.

Brought to our attention via the Submission Suggestions page, Lego Builder Jr. has recreated the podium scoring Toyota on MOCpages and Flickr in its early red and white livery. See more via the links above, and if you’re still in doubt that hybrid can be cool, take a listen to this.

Lego Toyota AE86

Insert Keiichi Tsuchiya for twice the awesome

This innocuous Japanese hatchback is actually one of the most legendary drift cars ever made. Toyota’s AE86 shot to super-stardom at the hands of Keiichi Tsuchiya, and then many others, in the Initial D Drift Championship. Light, rear wheel drive, and endlessly tuneable, the AE86 was Japan’s Ford Escort and helped launch both Toyota and drifting into the consciousness of motor racing fans worldwide. AadenH recreates the legend on Flickr and at his MOCpage.

Insert The Stig for twice the awesome

After a few days without a car to show you, KidA on Brickshelf breaks the duck, with one of the star cars of 2012; the awesome Toyota GT86. It’s complete with a working 4-cylinder boxer engine, all-round suspension and RC drive, so KidA’s Technic version is probably nearly as fun to drive as the real thing. Click his name for the pics.

Toyota MR2

Toyota MR2 Turbo

An unusual paint job for a race car, but somehow it seems to work. Dylan Denton is the creator behind this 1997 Toyota MR2 Race Car, complete with fizzy drink sponsorship. Unfortunately for us it got the Elves in the mood for sugar, and we’re still fixing The Lego Car Blog office as a result. So whilst we get busy with the gaffer tape, you can view the MR2’s full gallery on Flickr.

Toyota Hilux

Toyota Hilux

Toyota’s Hilux is widely regarded as the world’s toughest vehicle. Used by everyone from Aussie farmers to Libyan freedom-fighters via most of the world’s terrorists, they’ve seen action in war zones, forests, deserts and even the poles. It’s the perfect vehicle to recreate in LEGO then, and Matija Puzar has done just that. He’s a certified LEGO Professional too.
