You might think that the slowest car in the world would be some steam-powered contraption from the late 1800s, or perhaps the thing that moves the space shuttle. But no, if the internet is to believed the slowest car ever is in fact a 200bhp sports car from the late 2010s.
Which just goes to show how the internet’s comments sections are filled with more nonsensical hyperbole than the inside of Donald Trump’s head.
The Subaru BRZ and its Toyota GT86/Scion FRS siblings are throughly brilliant analogue (as much as a modern car can be) rear-wheel-drive sports cars, with low weight, modest power, and – admittedly – the same torque as a smoothie-maker.
Still, that just made getting the most from the sublime chassis even more fun, and we’re pretty sure that when everything is electric, automatic, and festooned with electronic safety interference (which is the reason the car’s second-generation will last just a few short years), the BRZ and GT86 will become highly sought-after classics.
This fantastic Model Team recreation of the slowest-car-in-the-world-according-to-the-internet comes from Flickr’s Mihail Rakovskiy, who has replicated the Subaru BRZ brilliantly. Ok, this might be digital, but it’s too cool not to post! This is a GT4586. What’s that you ask? The 4.5 litre V8 engine from a Ferrari 458 fitted inside the engine bay (mostly) of a Toyota GT86. The result is one hell of a drift car, and it’s street legal too, as builder/racer Ryan Tuerck demonstrates in this rather excellent video. Sadly the real car is no more following an accident, but TLCB favourite Simon Przepiorka has brought the Toyrari/Feryota back to life in Lego form with this awesome-looking render. The Toyota 86/GT86 / Scion FRS / Subaru BRZ is a rather wonderful machine. Light weight, low grip, rear-drive and very sidewaysy, it’s the antidote to this. And this. And this. And this. Which means most people aren’t interested in it and in the not too distant future cars like the 86 will probably be no more.
Simon Przepiorka is interested in the 86 though, and thus has built this most excellent Lego version, complete with opening doors, posable ‘steering’ and a plethora of cunning building techniques to create the svelte shape. Slower, but better. There’s a lot to be said about slidey rear-wheel-drive cars like the Toyota GT86 / Subaru’s BRZ twins, and here at TLCB Towers – as you’d expect for a car blog – we absolutely love cars like this.
TLCB regular Senator Chinchilla has recreated the Japanese icon beautifully in white bricks, and fantastically complicated it is too – such swoopy bodywork is fiendishly difficult to replicate from the straight angles of Lego pieces.

After a few days without a car to show you, KidA on Brickshelf breaks the duck, with one of the star cars of 2012; the awesome Toyota GT86. It’s complete with a working 4-cylinder boxer engine, all-round suspension and RC drive, so KidA’s Technic version is probably nearly as fun to drive as the real thing. Click his name for the pics.
