Things are not always what they seem. And not just in today’s terrifying world of AI, but in decades past too. Because the ‘Ferraris’ used in the famous TV series ‘Miami Vice’ were not actually Ferraris at all, but Chevrolet C3 Corvettes.

Cunning modifications transformed the then-ageing Stingrays into prancing horses, but we think we actually prefer the ‘Vettes to the Italian supercars they became. We’re back! After the Elves’ enforced Christmas break they’ve been re-released out into the web to continue their search for the best Lego vehicles that it has to offer.

One particularly speedy Elf has already returned to TLCB Towers with this, the gloriously eighties Ferrari Testarossa, in Miami Vice white.

Of course Miami Vice often dealt with a very different sort of ‘snow’ to the type our title is referring to, but it’s Christmas – the season of tenuous links!

Lego Ferrari Daytona Miami Vice

Ferrari didn’t allow Miami Vice to use their cars, because they are – famously – dicks when it comes to their brand protection. The producers decided they wanted Ferraris anyway, and commissioned Corvette-based replicas to create their desired movie cars. We’re not sure who had the last laugh there, the Miami Vice production company or Ferrari, who received marketing for free without even having to lend out a couple of cars.

This neat replica of a replica of a Ferrari Daytona Spider in Miami Vice black on Magnolia spec comes from previous bloggee Jonathan Elliott, and a rather splendid job he’s done too. See more at the link above.

Lego Ferrari Testarossa Miami Vice

Short of your Dad snorting coke from the bellybutton of a hooker, there is nothing that sums up the 1980s better than a Miami Vice-white Ferrari Testarossa. Each launched in 1984, the Testarossa and the Miami Vice TV show have become symbols of their decade.

Unusually for a successful American TV show though, it was actually the Ferrari that endured longer, with production of the design lasting until 1996, making the Testarossa platform one of Ferrari’s most-produced models.

It’s this particular Testarossa that we like the best, so gloriously and unashamedly ’80s is its appearance. It’s been built by Ciamoslaw Ciamek of Flickr, and there’s more to see of both the car and the characters from the hit TV show at his photostream. This glorious Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spider in Miami Vice specification was suggested to us by a reader. It’s the work of Flickr’s ER0L, and it’s one of the most perfectly executed Town-scale replicas we’ve seen. More photos are available at the link above.
