Cars of Futures’ Past

For reasons unknown, movies depicting cars of the future always seem to choose 1976 as a start point. Still, as the results are sometimes as good as these cyberpunk concepts by Finn Roberts we’re cool with that.

Based on the conceptual designs of Syd Mead – and a Lancia Stratos – Finn’s concepts capture the retro-futuristic nature of cyberpunk film brilliantly, and are part of his wide ranging ‘Cyberpunk’ Flickr album.

There’s more to see of Finn’s two cyberpunk concept cars featured here on Flickr, where a range of other brick-built retro-future machinery can also be found. Take a look via the link above.

Spin Doctor*

Lego Technic Bladerunner Spinner

The iconic Spinner from the 1982 sci-fi epic ‘Blade Runner’ has appeared here in multiple forms over the years. From large scale brick-built versions to smaller mini-figure builds, there’s a spinner for everyone. Except Technic fans, who have – until now – been unrepresented.

Syd Mead’s infamous design has finally been Technic-ed, thanks to previous bloggee Jeroen Ottens who has created this utterly wonderful (and brilliantly motorised) version of the Spinner in Technic form.

With doors that open electrically and a motorised transformation from ground to flight modes, Jeroen’s design is more than a visual treat too. You can watch that transformation in action by clicking here and you can see more of the build on Flickr, where a link to instructions is also available.

Spinner

Lego Blade Runner Spinner

Syd Mead’s ‘Spinner’ police car from the movie Blade Runner has become one of the most influential sci-fi designs of all time, with the basic premise used in countless films since its first appearance way back in 1982. The Spinner also makes a fine subject to recreate from Lego, and Flickr’s -derjoe- has done it superbly. You can see more of his mini-figure Spinner via the link above.
