Le Mans Special

Lego Le Mans

It’s that time of year again! Yes Christmassy snow might be falling here at TLCB* but the big news is that the amazing Henrik Hoexbroe has released his annual ‘Mega MOC’ for 2014!

Henrik’s past works have included a brilliant 1950s Town scene and an astonishing Citroen 2CV factory. This time though, he’s gone racing! (Making 2014 our favourite Mega MOC so far.)

Lego Le Mans Scene

Featuring 15 liveried racing cars, another 10 assorted racetrack vehicles and 100 mini-figures, Henrik has recreated the world famous Le Mans 24 Hour race in beautiful detail. He’s timed it well too, as Toyota have just wrapped up the 2014 World Endurance Championship (of which Le Mans is the star event).

Henrik’s pit-straight scene leaves out the championship winning Toyota TS040 and its mighty fellow LMP1 prototype racers in lieu of the more recognisable stuff that makes up the bulk of the Le Mans field; the GT Pro and GT Am classes, including cars from Porsche, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Chevrolet.

What we like best is that – whilst we do admire creations of incredible intricacy and fragile realism – Henrik’s scene is constructed in a robust mini-figure friendly way, and looks like it could happily survive a child’s hands without too much damage. And that, surely, is what LEGO is all about.

You can see more of Henrik’s fantastic Le Mans scene, including close ups of all the racing cars and other vehicles, on both MOCpages and Flickr. It’s well worth your click.

Goldfinger

Lego Aston Martin DB5

The Elves are all very happy this afternoon. One of them returned to TLCB Towers with this, an absolutely wonderful Aston Martin DB5 by Flickr’s ER0L, and we’re so enthralled by it we’re letting them all watch 007 at the wheel in the 1960s film classic Goldfinger.

Er0l’s beautiful recreation of the famous British GT is only seven studs wide, but a more perfect replica of the DB5 we couldn’t imagine. It might be the best Town scale car you’ll see all year. Click the link above to visit Er0l’s photostream (and let him know that a version with Q’s bullet shield and machine guns is what we’re all waiting for!).

Two for Tuesday

Lego Supercar, Aston Martin

V8 Vantage Coupe

An Elf fight broke out in The Lego Car Blog Towers today. Not an uncommon event, the cause this time was two of the little buggers claimed to have brought back the same car. With a meal at stake it started to get vicious, so we decided to intervene when a stapler and fire extinguisher entered the circle. As it turns out, both Elves had indeed brought back an Aston Martin V8 Vantage by Sven Bode and Jens Matuschek on MOCpages, but surprisingly, they were different cars. So, two fed Elves and a double posting for you guys.

Sven and Jen’s masterpieces are amongst the best Model Team vehicles we’ve featured at The Lego Car Blog, with detail at a level we can all imagine, but few can translate into real bricks. To see the full gallery of each V8 Vantage, click the following links: Coupe Roadster

DB5(wide)

Aston Martin DB5

If Bond were a mini-fig….

After a series of posts towards to larger end of the scale, it was time for something a bit smaller. This tiny Aston Martin DB5 employs more SNOT in its 5-wide bodywork than most large scale models do. 1saac W‘s Flickr photstream is where it was found.
