OK, these are a very long way from being cars, but they’re so cunning in their construction it was too hard not to post them. Built by Flickr’s Blake Foster these ‘Critters’ come in Classic Space and M-Tron flavours and there’s more of them to see at Blake’s photostream via the link above!
“Lobsters live for over one hundred years, are blue-blooded like aristocrats, and stay fertile all their lives.” The lobster is an unconventional theme for a movie or name for a spacecraft, which are normally given an exciting spacey titles or confusing alpha-numeric codes. Not so this one, which has been named after the long-lived crustacean due to the ‘two large claws that it uses to grip containers, in place of any kind of cargo hold’, according to the builder, Blake Foster.
It’s a superbly built spacecraft too, rocking a Neo-Classic Space aesthetic and some exquisite detailing on both itself and the containers it’s carrying. This TLCB writer can’t remember the last time he saw a Ford Cargo, but they used to be everywhere. Once the truck of choice for large fleets such as the Royal Mail the humble Cargo must be nearly extinct now, however Flickr’s Lego Guy has kept at least one alive with his excellent Town-scale recreation, complete with a superb and instantly recognisable Royal Mail livery. Whilst most of the sci-fi Lego world has been focused on building massive SHIPs for SHIPtember or trying to come to terms with the perpetually enigmatic Ma.Ktober, Tim Henderson has taken his own path with the “Swan“. Tim says that it’s the biggest spacecraft that he’s built but it stills looks a nice size to take for a swoooosh. Added to this are plenty of opening hatches and play features. The ship looks to be a great toy, as well as being good to look at. As its origins are in the Corellian shipyards of Star Wars, that will keep another cohort of spacers happy too. What’s not to like? In the meantime, at the other end of the size scale, is “Lord Cockswain’s Endangerer”. Worth blogging for the name alone, it’s a nice example of economic micro-scale building. Grantmasters is the builder and here’s the link to his Photostream.
