Ok, we’ll start out by saying we are absolutely not going to do these two brilliant podracers by Rubblemaker of Flickr justice. Knowing virtually nothing about Star Wars isn’t something we feel the need to correct, but it does make writing about Star Wars more tricky…

What we can say is that Classic Space themes Blacktron and, er… Classic Space look thoroughly awesome as Starwarsy racing thingumies, particularly when kicking up a cloud of brick-built lunar dust.

Rubblemaker’s inventiveness is evident throughout the builds, with Benny’s Classic Space podracer even using Star Wars Death Star pieces for its engine intakes, which we’re immensely pleased with ourselves for noticing.

That’s the limit of our Star Wars knowledge though, so we’ll leave this to the proper blogs at this point. Until they pick this up you can see of Rubblemaker’s brilliant creations on Flickr. Click the link above to pod race in Classic Space.

On a Christmas Tree Far Far Away

This writer is breaking several unwritten TLCB rules with this post. Talking about Christmas before December, specifically publicising a LEGO Ideas project, and – more vaguely – ‘bloody Star Wars creations’, all of which incur the displeasure of The Editor. So here’s a Christmas-themed Star Wars LEGO Ideas project…

Built by Brixe63, these rather wonderful Christmas tree decorations feature many recognisable vehicles from the movie franchise, and we think they’d make a most excellent set! In fact so too would loads of vehicular-themed decorations, which we’re surprised that LEGO haven’t thought to bring to production already.

Oh go on then… With just one minute of Star Wars day to go (and the most Star Wars-y Lego website seemingly as dead as Luke Skywalker), here’s a build from a galaxy far, far away. SweStar is the creator of this beautifully built ‘Ultron T6’ Speeder Bike, complete with a desert setting and one of the grey spacey things that seem to be the background of every Star Wars shot. With the writers at Bricknerd seemingly now working as often as MOCpages‘ servers, it falls to the stupidest Lego site of them all to blog this Star Wars creation. Don’t worry Star Wars fans, we’ve got this!

This is Fuku Saku’s updated TIE Fighter, so called because their pilots were the smartest of all of the Galaxis of Evil’s squadrons, wearing full neck ties in battle.

The TIE Fighter was also the chosen by Lord Commander Dark Vaper as his personal ship, whose permanent eerie cloud and cool laboured breathing helped popularise e-cigarettes.

Dark Vaper’s TIE Fighter included a special ‘cloud extractor’ on the underside to clear the cockpit fog caused by his continual vaping, which Fuku Saku has recreated brilliantly in the image above.

After years of blogging Star Wars creations we’re pretty good at understanding the franchise now. For example we know that this jolly Jedi is off to the beach aboard his hoverbike, where he’ll no doubt use his lite sword to cook up an awesome barbecue for his friends in the Trade Alliance. Y-Wing

Regular readers of this dilapidated little corner of the internet will know that here at The Lego Car Blog we do not have an unconditional love for Star Wars. In fact, in a couple of ways (primarily any form of dialogue whatsoever), George Lucas’s most famous movie franchise is so awful it’s almost a parody of itself.

However, in plenty of other regards the Star Wars movies are an absolute triumph, one example being the incredible attention to detail paid to the vehicles in the Star Wars universe. This is one of the most famous, the Koensayr Manufacturing BTL-S3, or ‘Y-Wing’ as it is commonly known.

A multi-role starfighter/bomber, the Y-Wing could serve in both atmospheric conditions – where it could hit 1000km/h – as well as in space, and was in use within the Republic Navy as early as 22 BBY. No, we don’t know when that is either, we pulled it from ‘Wookiepedia’, so best direct any follow up questions there…

This jaw-dropping recreation of the famous Star Wars spaceship comes from Jerac of Flickr, who has recreated the Y-Wing in unbelievable detail. The build is made all the more impressive when you consider that whilst it may not look it, Jerac’s model is only mini-figure scale.

This is a Mobquet M-68 landspeeder (of course), and it comes from newcomer barneius industries of Flickr. With our expert knowledge of all things sci-fi we could detail the M-68’s history and technical capabilities but we wouldn’t want to embarrass the other blogs, so instead we’ll simply stick to how deeply, awesomely cool it looks.

Featuring Ford Thunderbird style jet-thruster rear lights, a wing reminiscent of the Plymouth Roadrunner, and an excellent side-stripe, the Mobquet  channels a whole host of classic American metal into its design, with glorious results. Lego Star Wars Resistance

We’re not exactly Star Wars connoisseurs here at The Lego Car Blog, so we know even less about ‘Star Wars: Resistance’ than Donald Trump knows about using food banks. OK, full disclosure, we know nothing about ‘Star Wars: Resistance’, but quick Google reveals it to be a CGI cartoon inspired by Japanese anime. And that’s all we’ve got. Nevertheless we do really like the spaceships found within it, if this collection by newcomer Mansur Soeleman is anything to go by. Looking a bit like historic racing cars is a sure way to get TLCB Team on board, and there’s more to see of Mansur’s excellent ‘Star Wars: Resistance’-classic-racing-star fighter-thingies on Flickr.

Lego Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer

From our (very) limited knowledge of the Star Wars movie franchise we’ve deduced that the good guys fly things named after letters whilst the bad guys fly things named after shapes. Kind of like an inter-galactic Sesame Street, although we’re not sure Bricknerd would see it that way.

The most powerfully evil of all the bad guys’ flying things are the spherical ones, but the triangles aren’t far behind. This is one such triangle; the ‘Monarch’ Imperial Star Destroyer.

Built by Flickr’s 0necase this incredible creation is constructed from around 11,000 LEGO bricks, and measures well over a meter in length. The huge engines are even formed by three LEGO Death Star pieces, amongst the largest in LEGO’s range, in a gloriously circuitous homage to the Empire.

Lego Technic Millennium Falcon

Making the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs, defeating the Death Star, rescuing Princess Leia, defeating the Death Star again… the Millennium Falcon has done many things worthy of Star Wars fandom, but the ship has never appeared in Technic form, which is – frankly – all that matters.

Until now that is. Jeroen Ottens received a commission to build a Technic Falcon and he’s done just that, immortalising the modified YT-1300 Corellian light freighter (we Wikipedia-ed it!) in Technic form. There’s a working access ramp, a fully articulated gun turret, and – to the joys of those here at TLCB who have to respond to our mailbox – there are even instructions available too!

Lego Friends Star Wars B-Wing

The battle between the Dark Side and the… er, Pinkish-Purpley Side continues to rage. Following his previously featured ‘BFF Y-Wing‘, Flickr’s Tyler Sky has jumped to the other end of the Heartlake City Rebel Alliance Alphabet and built this delightfully colourful ‘Friendly B-Wing’. Don’t be fooled by the cutesy exterior though, as the extra large cockpit with two Friends on board allows one of them to focus solely on blowing stuff up. Lego Star Wars Battle of Hoth

It’s a scene that even we’re familiar with; Empire AT-ATs stalking across the snow covered plains of Hoth and towards a Rebel Alliance base soon to be in great peril.

Luke Skywalker, commander of Rogue Squadron and famous for some reason, leads the defence in a company of small Snowspeeders.

And so goes down one of the most memorable battles in the Star Wars franchise, and one that has been recreated beautifully in micro-scale by Flickr’s GolPlaysWithLego. As regular readers of this site will know, we’re not a blog that fully appreciates the wonders of the Star Wars franchise.
