Takushi! タクシー

Lego Toyota Crown Comfort Taxi

We don’t often post normal cars here at The Lego Car Blog. Partly because TLCB Elves get far more excited by big engines and racing stripes, but mostly it’s because Lego builders tend to think the same way.

Dohoon Kim however, has decided that something far more every-day deserves to be immortalised in plastic; the humble Toyota Crown Comfort taxi.

Launched in 1995 (and already looking dated!) the Comfort quickly became Japan’s favourite cab, through its astonishing reliability, space inside, and of course, its comfort. Powered by either diesel or LPG and featuring amazing self-opening rear doors, if you hail a taxi in Japan, Hong Kong or Singapore you’ll almost certainly be making your journey in one of these. The Crown Comfort is still in production too, looking at least 20 years out of date, but still the king of Asian cabs.

Real Rotator Wrecker

Lego Peterbilt tow truck

We’ve known Bricksonwheels for a while now, he was interviewed here on TLCB last week, and several of his models have appeared on these pages. So the Elves were pretty excited when he uploaded his latest masterpiece, a truly incredible 1:13 scale Peterbilt 379 Century Rotator Wrecker, a Tow Truck that looks more like the real Peterbilt than a Lego one

Weighing 9KG and utilising over 10,000 LEGO pieces BricksonWheels’ newest truck includes a fully functioning boom, working outriggers and fully wired winches. It’s also got possibly the coolest paint-job seen on any of his models so far, making it look like a giant Checker Cab. Check out what might be TLCB’s Truck of the Year on MOCpages and Flickr, where the full stats and complete gallery are available.

Amazing Lego Town

Henrik Hoexbroe’s amazing ‘ Kingstown, USA, 1959’

Today we’re pleased to bring you a MOC Special. One of our favourite Town builders, whose creations we’ve featured a few times here before, has pulled together all of his MOCs into one incredible Town-style layout. Set in 1959, Henrik Hoexbroe’s masterpiece includes some simply beautiful small-scale Americana, including Checker Taxis, Greyhound Buses, finned Cadillacs and countless other classic vehicles. Not only that, he’s set in them all in a living world of plastic, complete with diners, cinema, parks, a used car lot… there is is literally too much for us to pick out here.

The whole set-up was recently displayed at the HispaLUG Expo 2012 in Barcelona, and you can see the full gallery of pictures showing the complete scene in detail by visiting Henrik’s MOCpage at the link above. See how many previous blog posts you can find! Congratulations Henrik, from all at The Lego Car Blog!

Handsome Hansom

Image

Okay, slightly off-topic, but I couldn’t resist. Anyhow, this was a transport pioneer, of a kind. In the late 19th Century, the architect Joseph Hansom solved the problem of the comfortable taxi-cab that could be drawn by one horse, creating the first of many ubiquitous London Taxis on the way. This exceptionally pretty model of the Hansom Cab is brought to you by Lego Builders on MOCpages. Find it here:

Taxi Driver

Taxi Driver

A trembling elf returned to The Lego Car Blog Towers holding on to Misterzumbi‘s recreation of the iconic character, and cab, from Martin Scorsese’s 1976 masterpiece ‘Taxi Driver’.

The little chap has certainly expanded his vocabulary since watching the film. None of his new found words are printable here.
