Seeing Red

Lego technic Land Rover Defender

Today we saw the return of two Elves, both clutching things of much redness. The first red thing turned out to be this, Rabbitdesign‘s superb Technic Land Rover Defender 110, which has one of the most thoroughly engineered chassis we’ve ever seen (a trip to MOCpages via the link above is highly recommended to see how he’s done it).

Coincidentally this year will be the Defender’s last. Emissions and safety laws have finally caught up with the 1940s design, signalling an end to more than 60 years of continual production.

Lego German Tug Aircraft

Elf No.2’s red thing was discovered on Flickr. It’s a German target tug by Sydag, used for towing things into the sky to be shot at, and it’s a wonderfully smooth build. There’s more to see at the link above.

Suggested to us by a reader we round off today’s Technic-biased musings with this superb Land Rover Defender. It was found on Image Shack and has been built by the previously unknown-to-us dirtzone.

The Defender features Power Functions drive and steering, opening doors, and a truly fantastic suspension set-up. Dirtzone has made a large gallery of images available to view at the aforementioned link, which includes chassis and component photographs. Check it out and be inspired!

FebRovery’s Finishing Flourish

CS Landrover

Apologies for the unimaginative title but we’ve been a bit pre-occupied dealing with a combined Elf and Mini-Fig uprising here at TLCB Towers. Now the that airhorn is recharged, we’ve time to bring you this rather charming creation from Miro Dudas, on Flickr. Possibly the most normal looking car in the FebRovery group, the Lunar Rover 90 is standard Land Rover, which has been modified for use in space. Apparently this was done to save money on developing a new moon buggy. You can see the complete range of weird and wonderful vehicles which were created last month by following this link to the FebRovery Group.

Welcome to the Jungle

Lego Land Rover Defender Camel TrophyWe don’t often post two vehicles from the same builder in one week, but after discovering Paliason‘s recent uploads to Brickshelf we decided to make an exception for his superb Camel Trophy spec Land Rover Defender from the early 1990s.

The Camel Trophy was a worldwide exploration challenge that visited the world’s most inhospitable places, running 20 years from 1980 to 2000. Named after the cigarette-making sponsor company (because nothing says outdoor adventure like lung cancer) the challenge used Land Rover vehicles throughout its 20 year history, which were all painted Camel’s iconic sand yellow colour. Following the demise of the Trophy in 2000 Land Rover restarted the event under its own sponsorship, renaming it the Land Rover G4 challenge and switching the famous cigarette-yellow paintwork for bright orange.

Sadly the global economic crisis in 2008/9 put an end to the G4, but you can still sometimes see ex-Camel and ex-G4 Land Rovers on the roads as they were sold after the completing the event. One careful owner, never used off-road…

Lego Land RoverCamo Land Rovers are cool. And that’s all we need to post Mortal Swordsman’s 5-wide version here at TLCB. See more on MOCpages.

Technic Defender

Lego Technic Land Rover Defender

The best 4x4xFar

There’s more to our title for this post than it may appear. You see, with the arrival of smooth Technic beams and smooth LEGO curves, which admittedly are far better suited to modern cars than the old square elements, something in Technic building has been lost.

Remko Kleinveld on MOCpages reclaims the old-school chunky studs-up building style with his beautifully constructed Land Rover Defender. And what better vehicle to build in an obsolete no-nonsense style than a Defender? Soon to be replaced by something sleeker, more efficient, but probably not as cool, it’s the perfect metaphor.

Insert mud/sand/rocks for twice the awesome

This brilliant looking Land Rover Defender is the work of Yang Nam on MOCpages. Not only is it equipped with all the lights, bars and winches required for serious off-roading on the outside, underneath Yang has fitted working all round suspension and steering. Check it out at the link.

Total Technic Brilliance

The very talented Sheepo has been building some of the most impressive Technic Supercars for a while now. We’re talking the sort of model with as many functions, gears and motors as some real cars we can think of…. This one even has a motor to control its brakes, among an amazing array of features to be found by clicking this http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/323339. You’ll be very glad you did.
