Truckasaurus REXX

Whiiiir, crunch. Whiiiir, crunch. That’s not a good noise thought this TLCB Writer. A weary and well-worn trudge out of the office revealed the source, and more Elven carnage than we’ve experienced for some time.

Stampeding down the corridor was a troop of Elves, being chased by the most enormous, and enormously fast, truck that this writer had ever seen. Behind it, squashed thoroughly into the carpet, were those that had failed to keep up the pace, or – more likely – those that had been tripped by one of their colleagues.

With the driver apprehended we can take a look at this astonishing 1 metre long machine, which turns out to be a fully working replica of the enormous 160-ton Australian REXX mining truck.

It comes from previous bloggee Kirill Mazurov (aka Desert Eagle/desert752), and it is a phenomenal bit of kit.

No less than fifteen motors and four third-party BuWizz bluetooth batteries power the REXX, with five Buggy Motors delivering power to all ten fully-suspended wheels. That explains the almost implausible speed.

Three Servo Motors drive the steering, the vast tipping bed is powered by both an XL and L Motor, whilst five Medium Motors operate the cab’s motorised ladders, doors, and even the windscreen wipers.

It’s a truly astounding build and one that is definitely worth a closer look via Kirill’s ‘REXX Truck’ Flickr album, the Eurobricks discussion forum, and via the excellent video showing the model in action below.

We like large off-road trucks here at TLCB, so imagine how cool we think a large off-road truck is that lives in space! That’s right; less cool – but as sci-fi is all the Elves will bring back at the moment for some reason, here’s a large off-road truck that lives in space. However, it is – as you can see here – rather awesome…

Built by Flickr’s martin.with.bricks, this enormous 10×10 Neo-Classic Space carrier measures almost 60cm long, features two space containers (which are like regular containers, only in space), and includes a wonderfully detailed cabin. Sometimes this TLCB writer wishes he could be a Classic Spaceman. Permanently happy, the mini-figures of Classic Space don’t have to deal with lockdowns due to deadly disease, Keeping up with the Kardashians, and – in newly depressing events – the greatest undermining of democracy in American history.

It turns out, to the surprise of absolutely no-one, that if you drip feed lie after lie to people in order to inflate your own ego, said people will eventually believe your falsehoods with such fanatical fervour that they will rise up in an attempt to realise the fantasy.

Still, it’s not like America has exported democracy (both successfully and with disastrous consequences) to multiple countries around the world, who are now looking upon the same terrifying images as this writer…

Donald Trump’s new low, and the actions of those undermining the very country they purport to stand for, is of no consequence to the Classic Spaceman however, who continues his business with a smile upon his face and and giant 10×10 ‘Space Utility Truck’ in his control.

This enormous (and marvellous) creation comes from previous bloggee The G Brix, who has unwittingly been brought into this writer’s rant about the worst moment in U.S. electoral history, and it’s packed with ace play functions.

Featuring a working crane, functioning steering, a detailed cockpit, control room, and living space for longer missions, G Brix’s build looks the perfect place to escape the appalling mess the world seems to be in at the moment. What the Frack?

This is a Tatra T815-7 10×10. Plus a few other things.

Built in collaboration across five companies and two continents, this remarkable machine is a mobile fracking rig, capable of extracting shale gas from deep inside the earth. The base is a Tatra T815-7 10×10 off-road truck, powered – in this case – by a six thousand horsepower diesel engine mounted behind the cab.

The reason for all that power is what is you can see at the rear of the vehicle, a GD-2500 Quintiplex well-pump constructed by American pump specialists Gardner Denver – itself rated at 2,500bhp – used to propel a mixture of water, sand and chemicals into the well to force the shale gas to the surface.

The engine powering this pump comes from German company MTU, whose designs are more normally associated with ships than land-based vehicles, with a Czech Talosa auxiliary gearbox allowing the twelve cylinder diesel to drive both the pump and the truck itself.

Cylinder deactivation drops the power for driving the truck, so you don’t have 6,000bhp to play with (although that does sound like it would be fun), with this ‘one engine’ solution and the vehicle superstructure created by engineering company M.G. Bryan Equipment.

It’s an amazing real-world vehicle, recreated here in LEGO form (and to an equally amazing standard) by Pavol Vanek aka Paliason. Measuring a metre long and weighing 8kg, Pavol’s brick-built replica of the M.G. Bryan ‘Percheron’ Tatra T815-7 is a huge creation, and it features a host of impressively engineered features underneath the superbly well executed Model Team exterior.

A complete 10×10 chassis, with nine differentials, full suspension, and steering on the first, second, fourth and fifth axles accurately replicates the real truck, with the steering alone driven by four linear actuators and an XL Motor.

A working twelve-cylinder piston engine sits behind the cab, LEDs illuminate the head and taillights, and there are opening doors and control panel covers.

It’s a phenomenal recreation of a unique real-world vehicle, and there’s loads more of Pavol’s astonishing model to see at both Flickr and the Eurobricks discussion forum. We don’t get many 10×10 trucks in TLCB’s home nation, but Eastern Europe seems to get far more exciting(?) machinery. Ok not this, this or this, but the vehicle in today’s post certainly is. It’s the snappily named Tatra 8P6R53 10×10, a DAF-based tipper built by Czech truck-makers Tatra with, you guessed it, a 10-wheel-drive system. Of the five driven axles all bar one steer too, making it a fiendishly complicated drivetrain which is necessary in the Czech Republic for reasons that we don’t really understand. Whatever they are, this magnificent Model Team recreation of the Tatra 8P6R53 10×10 comes from previous bloggee Arian Janssens and it features the truck’s four-axle steering plus a working tipper, and there’s more to see by clicking here.

Rover’s are, to most of TLCB staff, slightly sad old cars driven by the chronically elderly. Unless you can find a really old one which has come full circle back into cool again. Not so to Alec Hole. To Alec rovers are enormous 10×10 mobile space stations crewed by a team of perpetually smiling mini-figures whose task it is to… er, well you know we never did figure that out. Answers in the comments of you know more about Classic Space than we do.
