We thought about butchering the Shirley Bassey ‘Goldfinger’ theme song for this post, but re-writing iconic song lyrics to fit a truck-mounted-crane-company seemed a bit of a stretch, even for us. And we’ve stretched pretty far before!

We’ll stick to the model then, a beautifully presented Mercedes-Benz Actros 4140 truck, complete with a fully foldable Palfinger crane fitted behind the cab.

Previous bloggee Damian Z. is the builder, and he’s used some fantastic techniques to replicate not only the truck and crane’s aesthetics, but their movements too. A full gallery of top-quality imagery is available to view how it’s been done, and you can head there via the link above.

This is a Mercedes-Benz Actros and Nooteboom step-frame trailer, as operated by Dutch heavy haulage Mammoet. This one is hauling a Liebherr wheel loader, with all three models the work of TLCB favourite Ralph Savelsberg, and there’s more to see of the truck, trailer and load on Flickr via the link.

There’s just time to squeeze in one more creation of 2019 before our customary year-end roundup, and with a delightful circularity it has a whole lot squeezed into it. Suggested to us by a reader, this is Zbiczasty‘s awesome Mercedes-Benz Actros Titan 8×8 with Palfinger PK 150002 HDS crane, and it’s every bit as good as that impressive title suggests.

Firstly, it is indeed 8×8, with all eight wheels driven, all eight suspended, and the front four steering, all operable remotely via LEGO’s Power Functions IR system. That amazing drivetrain is just the start though, as this phenomenal truck features sixteen Power Functions motors, controlled by seven switches, four IR receivers and with three sets of LEDs thrown in too.

The motors drive everything from the stabilising legs to the incredible Palfinger PK 150002 crane mounted on the load bed, which unfurls like a coiled snake thanks to nineteen pneumatic cylinders and over ten metres of pneumatic hosing. We said it had a lot squeezed in…

Lego Mercedes-Benz Actros 4163 Truck

This enormous and brilliantly detailed Mercedes-Benz Actros 4163 comes from recent bloggee Shineyu, and whilst it may appear to be a Model Team creation outwardly, it’s also a fully functional remotely controlled model too. With working LED lights, twin steering axles and powered drive, the Actros is packed with Power Functions goodness. The features don’t stop there though as the huge trailer also features a neat party piece, as the powered sides lift upwards to enable loading. It’s a difficult trick to explain here, but fortunately Shineyu has uploaded a video to the internet revealing his box opening up (just like your Mom). Lego Technic Remote Control Mercedes-Benz Crane Truck

The Lego Car Blog Elves are, thankfully, not very big. This unfortunately does make them quite susceptible to being run over, trodden on, and getting eaten by dogs and larger birds, but we never seem to run out of them so there must be procreation going on somehow (we don’t really want think about that though).

It’s therefore unusual to see an Elf anywhere above waist height, but today this TLCB staff writer was met by the forlorn gaze of an Elf sitting on mid-level book shelf when he entered the office. Sigh.

It became apparent that several other Elves were dotted around the building in similar situations, marooned by one of their number’s latest find.

This superb Mecredes-Benz Actros 8×4 crane truck is the work of TLCB regular Shineyu, and it is, as you may have guessed, fully remote controlled. That includes the drive, steering, outriggers, and a huge crane arm, which unusually folds in the middle via a rotating joint, much like your elbow does.

Unfolding this joint via the corresponding Medium Motor and then operating the boom extension makes Shineyu’s appendage surprising long*, and thus the perfect tool for some vertical Elven tomfoolery. See just how big it gets via the link to the Eurobricks forum in the text above.

Featuring two Mercedes-Benz Actros 8×4 trucks, a Nooteboom steered-trailer and a Volkswagen Transporter, this heavy haulage team is very probably the most impressive multi-model build of the year.

The complete set has been designed and built by the immensely talented Jaap Technic, and each vehicle is one of the most astonishingly well detailed Lego creations that we’ve ever published.

Lego Mercedes-Benz Actros

Each Mercedes-Benz Actros truck includes a fully detailed cab inside and out, with the interior reached through opening doors and the V8 engine accessed via a tilting cabin.

Twin XL Motors power the trucks’ driven wheels whilst a Servo Motor turns the front two steering axels of each tractor unit, plus there are working LED lights front and rear, all controlled by a third-party SBrick bluetooth-compatible receiver.

The Volkswagen Transporter convoy support van isn’t left out either, with a trick Brickstuff sourced working light-bar and custom decals throughout.

Lego VW Transporter Convoy

Lego models photographed on location look the business. This stunning Mercedes-Benz Actros with Nooteboom trailer and its Volkswagen Transporter escort vehicle have appeared here previously as part of a builder collaboration.

Flickr’s JaapTechnic has since completed his elements of that original set-up by adding fully working lights and high-quality decals to his models.
