Rovers Return

Lego M-Tron Rover

There’s only a week left of this year’s Febrovery (although you can of course build a rover any time you like), and here are two more of our favourites so far. Above, and resuscitating the classic M-Tron theme, is Andrew Lee‘s entry, whilst below Jon Blackford has chosen to go a simian-shaped route. See more of each on Flickr at the links.

Lego Sci-Fi Mech Rover

Moon Dune

Lego Lunar Dune Buggy

Febrovery continues apace, and this smiling classic spaceman looks like he’s got his blue-gloved grabs on a seriously fun rover. Billyburg is the builder, and with only one sixth of the Earth’s gravity acting upon it his lunar dune buggy is going to get some serious air. If there was any on the moon of course. See more at Billyburg’s photostream here.

Sci-Friday

Lego Tron Light Cycle

What with it being the first day of the New Year, The Lego Car Blog Elves think they are now living in the future. Because they’re idiots. It’ll wear off soon, but until then they’ve gone all sci-fi.

As such, here’s a slick Tron Light Cycle from Flickr’s MortalSwordsman, complete with a rather alluring rider, and a brilliant Classic Space lunar exploration vehicle from Flickr’s Alec Hole. You can see more of each via the links above.

Lego Classic Space Lunar Rover

Space Hog

Lego Space Bike

TLCB has been very red of late, with seven of the last eight creations featured being crimson in hue. There might have been some kind of Elf pact going on, but today we can add some colour diversity to this page with a neat laid-back spacey motorcycle.

Featuring Classic Space’s iconic blue and grey colour scheme, a nifty bubble canopy, and a permanently smiling mini-figure, newcomer Brian Grissom‘s ‘LL-513 Surveillance Rover’ could have come straight from the late ’80s. Jump back in time with Brian’s photostream via the link above.

Neo-Classic-Space

Lego Classic Space Spacecraft

This glorious (and huge) Classic Space ship comes from TLCB debutant Alec Hole (whose name probably generates a few giggles when shortened to the first initial). You can see more of his twin-cockpit Neo Galaxy Commander on Flickr at the link above.

Zoooosh!

Lego Classic Space Vehicle

‘Swooshing’ is an activity usually used for the imagined flight of model spaceships. Its land-based counterpart, the ‘zoom’, is typically reserved for models with wheels. Not that TLCB Team waste hours in the office testing these attributes of the Elves’ finds…

Anyway, this marvellous creation from Flickr’s Chris Perron seems to transcend the usual neat categorisation of propelling a Lego model by hand, appearing to be both ‘Swooshy’ and ‘Zoomy’ at the same time.

So Zooshy? Or Swoomy? Either way, Chris’ ‘LL26 Seeker’ is a wonderfully playable bit of kit, and you can Swoom or Zoosh your way over to Flickr to see more.

Blue Monday

Lego Spacecraft

We know the square root of jack about spaceships. But we do quite like the colour blue, and that seems like as good a reason as any to post these lovely spacecraft. Above is Nick Trotta‘s ‘Atomium’, whilst below is David Alexander Smith’s classic space ‘Three-Man Planet Scout’, available on both Flickr and MOCpages.

SpaceOsaurus

Lego Space Stegosaurus

David Alexander Smith has given the mini-figures of Classic Space one heck of ride. His SpaceOsaurus does unfortunately remind us a little of Transformers 4 (one of the worst films of all time), but we’ll forgive it that because Classic Space is damn cool. See more at his photostream via the link above.

Twin Ships

Lego Spaceships

Crimso Giger’s got a lovely big pair. His micro-scale spaceships were suggested by a reader and can be found on Flickr.

Tintin In Space

Lego Space TinTin Rocket

This spectacular Classic Space Vs. Tintin mash-up is the work of certified Lego professional Ryan McNaught, aka TheBrickMan, and was discovered by one of our workers on Flickr.

Ryan’s enormous Tintin spaceship opens up to reveal a wonderfully detailed mini-figure interior, whilst the classic spacemen servicing the giant rocket* have a variety of classic space vehicles at their disposal, and the whole scene is mounted on a brilliant scaled-up version of the space baseplate that Lego produced to accompany the Classic Space range in the 1980s.

There’s loads more to see at Ryan’s photostream – click the link above to launch!

Star Port

Lego Classic Space Moon Base

Following his classic spaceship collaboration publicised here earlier in the week, builder Simon Liu has now completed the epic spaceport in which the classic spacecraft feature. Simon’s huge Moonbase services travellers from far and wide (just like your Mom), and there’s a vast amount of clever detailing and cunning building techniques used throughout the build.

There’s lots more to see on Flickr at Simon’s photostream – you can book yourself a trip to the moon by clicking on these magic words. We’ll see you there.

Spaceship! (x12)

Lego Classic Spaceships

The Lego Movie‘s Benny is sure gonna like this post…

Flickr’s Simon Liu recently held an Open Day at his moonbase build, and this is what turned up: Twelve different classic spaceships from a variety of the net’s best sci-fi builders. Each is a a work of Classic Space brilliance and you can see them all at Simon’s photostream here. Spaceship!

Y-Fronts

Lego Classic Space Y-Wing

Star Wars – for all its brilliance – does have a few issues; Jar Jar Binks, pretty much all of the dialogue, Jar Jar Binks, the total lack of any women in the entire galaxy, and Jar Jar Binks again.

However the machinery of Star Wars we thought was almost un-improvable… Until we saw it merged with Classic Space!

TLCB regular Billyburg has blended the two themes so perfectly it’s as if they should have been together all along. You can see more of his wonderfully nerdy Classic Space Y-Wing on Flickr – click the link above to make the jump.

Classic Spacephant

Lego Classic Space ElephantBecause who doesn’t want a giant animal-based space station of whimsy? David Alexander Smith’s ‘Classic Space Elephant Exploration Rig’ is one of the best things our Elves have ever brought back, even though we have no idea what it’s for or what it does. Trek over to MOCpages or Flickr to join in the mechanical safari.
