Classy Space

Lego Classic Space Explorer

The Elves are feeling spacey at the moment, which is giving us a bit of a headache. A – because they’re running around the office making ‘pew pew’ sounds (but we’ve all done that), and B – because TLCB staff are well out of their depth when it comes to describing anything science fiction related.

Anyhoo, whilst we don’t know what this ‘Galaxy Explorer Class Craft’ by Flickr’s Alec Hole does, we do know that it’s an utterly magnificent build, possibly one of the finest mini-figure scale spaceships that we’ve ever published. There’s lots more to see of Alec’s Classic Space creations on Flickr – click the link above to take a look.

Spacey Sunday

Sapcey Sunday 01

We enjoy a bit of sci-fi in our diet of Lego models here at The Lego Car Blog. This applies especially when it’s from older themes, which we can understand. The newer stuff is a lot harder to comprehend. Confusingly, SHIPtember starts tomorrow, on the 1st of August. Today we’ve got two models which revisit old Lego themes.

Andrew Lee is one of a number of builders who have taken advantage of the new parts available from the Nexo Knights theme’s colour scheme to build Ice Planet MOCs. The new windscreens and canopies are particularly useful, as many of the originals from 2002 haven’t aged well. Andrew’s “Blizzard Baron” features different detachable modules that enable it to perform a variety of missions on the snow.

Meanwhile, Jason Briscoe has posted this wonderful Neo-Classic Space land train on his Flickr Photostream. Its three trailers have a neat assortment of equipment on them, including gas tanks, something which looks like a drill and something which looks like an artificial lung machine in the middle. Oh dear, perhaps we don’t understand this type of sci-fi either!

Dubs in Space

Lego VW Beetle Space Sci-Fi

Dude, we could like, totally go to outta space! This far-out space Beetle and Camper pairing arrive courtesy of Flickr’s Priovit70. Drink the bong water via the links above to go on the trip of a lifetime!*

Space Utility Vehicle

Lego Classic Space

Who knows what it is that classic spacemen have been doing for nearly thirty years, but it always seems to put a smile on their face. TLCB favourite and classic space extraordinaire Billyburg returns to these pages with an update to his classic space portfolio that now includes an SUV (Space Utility Vehicle), and hover bot for… er, hovering. Billyburg has posted his classic space renaissance to the Lego Ideas platform – click the link above to see more and where you can follow a link to vote for it to become an official LEGO set.

Try Me

Lego Space Dragster

This is our kind of vehicle. Why has no auto manufacturer built something like this yet? – If the Nissan Juke exists this bloody well ought to.

A giant triangle (the best of all the shapes) fitted with a monstrous gas turbine engine, David Robert‘s ‘Turbine Dragster’ is just the ticket for the journey home after a long day in the office. There’s more to see (and why wouldn’t you want to see more of this?!) on Flickr – click the link above to make the jump.

To Walmart!

Lego Classic Space Hazmat Transporter

If we were mini-figures here in TLCB office and had to choose one vehicle to fulfil all our needs, this would probably be it. We can think of no task that Horcik Designs‘ ‘HMT4’ classic space tracked transport isn’t perfect for, from a trip to the shops to off-roading through the mountains. It’s even the ideal tool for removing Elf droppings from TLCB Towers, what with it being hazardous-materials compliant. There’s more to see of Horcik’s brilliant machine on Flickr – click the link above to make the hyper-jump.

Pimp My Speeder

Lego Star War Landspeeder Hot Rod

We’re not really sci-fi people here at The Lego Car Blog, what with us blogging… er, Lego cars. As such George Lucas’ most famous works rarely feature here, despite all his constant meddling with the franchise.

Today though we’ve made an exception, because we do like Classic Space, and we love big engines. It’s not often that the two meet, but when they do the results are bloody brilliant. So much so that we’re even willing to overlook this build’s inherent Star Warsyness. It’s the work of previous bloggee Priovit70, and it’s easily one of the coolest Star Wars Landspeeders that we’ve ever seen. Which isn’t saying much as we haven’t seen many, but it’s also one of the coolest Classic Space creations that we’ve seen too, and that’s saying rather more.

You can check out this hovering hot rod at Priovit’s photostream – click the link above to make the jump.

Not a Car

Lego Classic Space Set

TLCB Office had a few too many Jägerbombs last night and thus are feeling a little fragile today. Fortunately the awesome Firas Abu Jaber, a TLCB Master MOCer no less, has stepped in as Guest Blogger to keep the Legoey goodness coming. Over to Firas…

When you see a non-car creation featured on The Lego Car Blog it’s a good sign that it’s something exceptional, and this is certainly the case with billyburg‘s latest creation, the “Lunar Exploration Geological Outpost”. Billy proves to us that a nice MOC with great photography and presentation makes a compelling combination for a high quality Lego creation.

A lot of adults from the eighties and the earlier nineties, including myself, were raised on the love of LEGO space sets, and it’s considered one of the most loved themes of the time. Personally I was a big M-Tron and Space Police fan, so these kind of quality space creations bring back a fond memories of the good old days, especially as this MOC looks big fun to build and even greater fun to play with.

Lucky for us Billy has decided to suggest this MOC as a project on the LEGO Ideas website, so if you’d love to have this as an official set someday make sure to head to the project page here and give it your vote – it’ll need to get 10,000 supporters before LEGO consider making this as an official set.

If you’d like to see more of Billy’s Classic Space masterpieces you can jump to his Flickr photostream by clicking here.

Lego Classic Space

Crawlspace

Lego Classic Space Crawler

The title of this post might be from a fairly dreadful horror movie, but the creation it captions is rather excellent. Flickr’s Moko is a previous bloggee and he returns to TLCB with this simple yet delightful Classic Space crawler, complete with individually articulated tracks and a rear-mounted communication dish (this is Classic Space – no ray guns here!). See more at Moko’s photostream via the link above.

Classic Spechnic

Lego Technic Classic Space

Who’d have thought Classic Space and Technic could go together so well? This marvellous Classic Space themed Technic truck trial off-roader was suggested by a reader and comes from Flickr’s Horcik Designs. There’s XL motors for drive, bouncy suspension and an oversize (but no less cheery) Classic Spaceman at the wheel. You can take a look at all the images via the link to Flickr above, whilst we ponder other possible theme mash-ups!

A Long Time Ago…

BB CS Speeder

…in a galaxy far, far away, smiling spacemen were busily carrying out various tasks, exploring a planet with all sorts of new rovers and spaceships. It was 1978 and they were totally unaware that a year earlier the evil Darth Vader and his cohorts had exploded onto the big screen. Nearly 30 years later and TLCB regular Billyburg has fused the two genres together perfectly in his Classic Space Landspeeder. Click the link and zoom into the full sized photo on Flickr to admire the greebling and economic building style. We just hope that those innocent looking spacemen are prepared for their visit to Mos Eisley, as it doesn’t rate well on TripAdvisor.

Blue Bull

Lego Space Tank

Things appear to be getting serious in Classic Space. Gone are the days of smiling spacemen conducting peaceful exploration for purposes that no-one ever quite fathomed, today’s classic spaceman is smiling for a whole different reason; he has a really big gun. This slightly Great War-esque space tank comes from TLCB favourite Norton74, who has branched out from his usual impeccable hot rod and truck builds in order to arm LEGO Space’s nice guys. His ‘Blue Bull’ space tank comes complete with a crew of three, a support team, and a nifty looking (and very blue) hangar. There’s more available at Norton’s photostream – click the link above to see all the images.

Pew Pew Pew!…

Lego Vic Viper

…Or something. As regular readers of this site will know, space is not one of our limited strong points, so we won’t try to describe this ‘Vespine Vic Viper’ by Flick’s billyburg. What we will say is it has a smiling Classic Spaceman at the controls and we like that very much. Swoosh over to billyburg’s photostream to see more.

Cosmic Cargo

Lego Space Truck

Because space trucks need hood ornaments too. Priovit70 is the (possibly slightly unhinged) creator behind this intergalactic Peterbilt, and you can see more at the link to his photostream above.

Moon Dune Two

Lego VW Buggy Space

It seems like only last week that we posted a Lego lunar dune buggy. Probably because it was. Anyway, here’s another – this time in Volkswagen flavour – and you can see more courtesy of Jonas on Flickr.
