In recent years most military vehicles – such as these these American ‘Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected’ (MRAP) light tactical vehicles – seem to be painted tan, what with all the oil being in the desert. Er, we mean the ‘complicated political nature of the Middle East’, or something.

Of course a certain minimally-endowed despot has changed the landscape somewhat, bringing war back to the greeny-brown lands of Europe, and we suspect many national militaries will be re-painting a proportion of their equipment accordingly, even if they have no intention of joining in.

However the ’90s-2010s will be remembered, in a military context at least, for desert-based conflicts, and the tan-coloured vehicles that operated in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and other sandy locales.

Cue Robson M (aka BrickDesigners), and these excellent Middle-East spec MRAPs, armoured trucks, and personnel carriers. The Other Jaguar

This is the EBRC Jaguar, France’s new armoured reconnaissance & combat vehicle, and – according to builder Jordan Parmegiani (aka ParmBrick) – it’s equipped with electronic IED countermeasures and missile alert systems, a 40mm cannon, two MMP anti-tank guided missiles, a 7.62mm remote controlled machine gun, and eight smoke grenades. Which all sounds marvellous, but more importantly, being French, just look at how many poles there are to hang a white flag on! A Cool Hummer?

If you’re a TLCB Elf, the Hummer is cool. Particularly if it’s in yellow, as a nearby one was when this TLCB Writer was growing up. However, to anyone not an Elf/Texan NRA member, the civilian Hummer is one of the most abysmal, uncool, and depressing turds ever to emit from General Motors’ soil pipe. Which, don’t forget, also produced this. And this.

However today’s Hummer is rather cool, and not just because of the setting. TFDesigns (aka Frost)‘s ‘Arctic Thunder Armoured Limo’ has been constructed for the Decisive Action contest on Flickr (as several of the models in our recent posts have been), for dignitaries to cross the frozen continent of Aptenodytes, wherever that is.

The H2-based limousine features working suspension, brick-separator front skis, opening hood and doors, and an in-built missile launcher, whilst the accompanying snowmobiles that make up the motorcade are jet-propelled, for reasons none other than jets are cool.

Back in the USSR*

This is a BRDM-2, which might sound like something from your Mom’s internet browser history, but is in fact an amphibious armoured car built by the USSR between 1962 and 1989, and which is still in production in Poland today. Powered by a 140bhp GAZ V8 the BRDM-2 is capable of around 60mph on roads and a heady 6mph on water, when the engine drives a water-jet.

Like the MiG-29 we featured here earlier in the week the BRDM-2 was exported extensively, and is now in use on both sides of some conflicts, most recently between Russia and Ukraine.

This marvellous Technic recreation of one the Soviet Union’s most interesting vehicles was discovered by one of our Elves on Eurorbricks. Built by newcomer Danifill it packs in all the working functions of the real BRDM-2, besides the ability to float.

Two Power Functions XL motors deliver power to the four-wheel-drive system whilst an L motor drives the steering. All wheels are suspended, there are LED lights front and rear, and turret rotation is motorised too, with a third-party BuWizz bluetooth battery delivering eight times the power of LEGO’s own system plus bluetooth remote control.

Lego Armoured Car

This is a High Mobility and Speed Military Armoured Vehicle, and it looks just the thing to one-up all the Range Rover, Volvo XC90, BMW X5 and Audi Q7 drivers on the school run – although the way things are going outside some of the school gates around TLCB Towers, we really wouldn’t be surprised if things like this start showing up before long…
