Fifty-Five

Lego '55 Chevrolet Gasser

Flickr’s _Tyler appears on these pages so regularly he’s going to need his own section soon. His latest creation is this absolutely gorgeous ‘55 Chevrolet, and we’ve never wanted a Town-scale car more. Ingenious parts usage and spectacular photography can be found at _Tyler’s photostream – click here to see just how good small Lego cars can get.

Got Gas?

Lego Technic RC Gasser Hot Rod

Flickr’s Horcik has, in the form of this quirky remote controlled ‘gasser’ hot rod. Underneath the late ’50s Chevrolet Bel-Air(ish) bodywork are a suite of Technic motors, LEGO’s li-po battery and a Power Functions infrared receiver, plus bouncy live-axle suspension. There’s an extensive gallery detailing the build, plus a link to a video of the gasser in action, at Horcik’s photostream – click the link above to make the jump.

Classic Space Special

Lego Classic Space Mobile Base

Classic Space seems to be taking over the online Lego Community of late. We’ve had classic space hot rods, even classic space muscle cars, and today we can add another three tenuous links back to the smiling spacemen of the 1980s to this list.

First up, and the least odd of today’s trio, is this mega Mobile Lunar Base by Flickr’s Benjamin Corey. It’s got Technic Power Functions motors inside so it can trundle about in a very classic spacey way, although luckily for our Elves it’s one RC creation that’s too slow to mow them down. You can see more of Benjamin’s tracked-command centre on Flickr at the link above.

Lego Classic Space Gasser Hot Rod

The second of today’s classic space creations comes from recent bloggee Tim Henderson, who has decided that what classic spacemen really need in the vacuum of space is an air-breathing V8-engined ‘gasser’ hot rod. It might not be logical, but it’s damn cool! There’s more to see on Flickr via the link above.

Lego Classic Space Star Wars Pod Racer

The final model in our classic space trio comes from Gerald F of MOCpages. Gerald’s smiling classic spaceman seems to have taken a wormhole into a parallel universe, emerging at the helm of his very own classic space Star Wars podracer.

You can see more of Gerald’s spacey mash-up over on MOCpages via the link above, whilst we ponder if the arrival of all of these smiling classic spacemen is the signal of something sinister…

Play Your Cars Right

Lego '59 Chevy Impala Gasser

From the A-Team to Only Fools and Horses, 1980s television created some utterly brilliant cult shows. ‘Play Your Cards Right’ was not one of them – a game show in which contestants play a simple card guessing game in order to win mediocre prizes is not a recipe for televisual excitement. Today though, we’ve found two creations that make the ‘higher or lower’ game much more fun.

First up, and ‘higher’ is Tim Inman‘s 1959 Chevrolet Impala gasser van. ‘Altitude’ is fitted with a ridiculous V8, some ace sign-writing, and of course the all important gasser raised suspension. The ‘lower’ Impala to Tim’s gasser is fulfilled by fellow Flickr car builder Lino Martins, and his beautiful 1959 Impala low-rider ‘Low Life’. Both Tim and Lino’s complimenting ’59 Impalas can be found on Flickr – click the links in the text to see more.
