Ice Lorry

This is a Scania XT crane/tipper truck, and it has been constructed entirely from the parts found within the enormous LEGO Technic 42128 Heavy Duty Tow Truck set.

Builder mpj hasn’t used all 2,000 pieces though. In fact the donor set’s pneumatics have been foregone completely, but that doesn’t mean this appropriate-if-accidentally Ice Planet coloured alternate is short on functions, with working steering, a lifting third axle, a folding, rotating and extending crane, working stabilisers, and a tipping bed.

We say appropriate, as even with all of that functionality quite a few pieces remained, so mpj has utilised a few more of 42128’s parts to equip his Scania XT B-Model with a gritter (which spins by drive from the truck’s differential) and fully positionable snow plow.

Building instructions are available and there’s more of mpj’s airless icy alternative to see on Brickshelf and at the Eurobricks discussion forum – Click the links to plow your way there.

Sno-Cat

Inspired by the amazing Tucker Sno-Cats used in polar exploration, Flickr’s Uspez has constructed this delightful vintage sno-cat complete with four rotating tracks, a deployable snowplow, and some subtle communications equipment. We’re not sure what it could be for but the locals have some suspicions. Read more via the link…

Ploughing On

This site was terribly sad to report the death of truck building legend Ingmar Spijkhoven earlier this year, after losing his fight with motor neurone disease, an illness that currently has with no cure. Several of his fellow builders have been paying tribute to Ingmar in the most appropriate way; by building incredible trucks inspired by his designs. Dirk Klijn is one of them, and has developed this superb snow plough from Ingmar’s ‘T12’ truck.

Based on Ingmar’s original design, Dirk’s truck includes remote control drive and steering (operable via bluetooth thanks to a third-party SBrick), a pneumatic compressor to position the plough blade, a working salt spreader, and all-wheel-suspension. Dirk’s model will be on show at the Lego World Utrecht show alongside several Ingmar tributes and you can see more of the build on Flickr via the link above, plus you can see all of Ingmar’s incredible trucks to feature here over the years via the search bar on this site.

Lego Mack TerraPro DSNY

New York is a city where summers are hot and winters are freezing. This means a variety of civil service vehicles need to be deployed to cope with the swing in the weather; bins need emptying a lot in the heat and roads need clearing of snow in the cold.

New York’s Sanitation Department seems cleverer than most though, as someone there had the genius idea of fitting their refuse collection trucks with a snowplow. The trucks need to navigate the streets to collect refuse anyway, so why not have them clear the snow at the same time?

This brilliant Town-style replica of a snowplow-equipped Mack TerraPro refuse truck used by the New York Department of Sanitation comes from Flickr’s sponki25 and it not only looks the part but it’s packed with neat features too. There’s more to see at sponki’s photostream – click the link above to check it out.

Mr. Plow

Lego Snow Plow Train

Your Mom likes a good plow, so today we’ve got one. This is a replica of a PKP 411S-121, and it’s been recreated beautifully by Maciej Drwięga of Flickr. Exquisite detail abounds, and you can see all of the superb photos of Maciej’s build at his photostream via the link above.
