It’s been a fairly calm week at The Lego Car Blog Towers. You can therefore imagine our dismay, as we stumbled down the steps into our luxury penthouse editorial suite and found smushed Elves embedded in the Axminster. It could only mean one thing: the Elves had found a Technic Power Functions model.

This particular creation was discovered on MOCpages. It’s been built by Piotr K and features working 6×6 drive, suspension and gears. Weighing just over 2.5kg, it’s slightly lighter than the 1950s original.  Sadly that weight of bricks can smush even the largest of our workforce. Lego Technic RC Truck Trial

We got a bit drunk last night, and thus today isn’t going to be very productive. Luckily one of our readers has stepped in to keep TLCB functioning with a Guest Blog. Nils O, a previous bloggee himself, picks up the pen…

The headline says it all, so there should be no need to say much more… but hey, that would be a boring blog entry, wouldn’t it?

I found this fun promising RC Truck on the frontpage of MOCpages a few days ago and didn’t really notice it at the first look. But then I opened the page and thought: “Wow!… It must be so much fun to drive a truck like this one!” As I am not there at TLCB Towers, I can’t see it, but I bet the Elves will play with this thing for hours until they (or the batteries) get exhausted. (By the way, I want my blue Smartie, an M&M would be OK, too… – You can send it via E-Mail) ;-).

The truck has a 6×6 drive train powered by six Buggy motors, with a live axle in the front and bogie suspension in the rear, plus portal gears on each wheel. All of that complexity looks to work very well, providing quite a rigid suspension system perfect for difficult terrain, and the truck seems to be quite fast too (that’ll be those six Buggy motors! Ed.). The body is custom designed looks very cool – as if it were custom built truck for real life Truck Trial competitions.

Lego Technic ATV 6x6 RC

This is a real off-roader! Previous bloggee Pipasseyoyo has miniaturised one of the most accomplished all-terrain-vehicles, and his remote controlled Technic 6×6 ATV is every bit as capable as the real thing. With 6-wheel-drive powered by two XL Motors, locking differentials, a two-speed gearbox and working steering powered by a Medium Motor each, plus suspension on all three axles, Pipasseyoyo’s creation can climb like an ant. Lego Friends Dodge T-Rex RC

We never understood why Barney the Dinosaur was so friendly. Always happy to dance awkwardly and sing a humiliating song, we longed for the day when he’d go feral, eat the children and maul a producer. We’re still waiting for that day to come, but in the meantime we can get our fix of destruction and violence (and an excuse for a clever title) with this brilliant LEGO Friends-themed remote control Dodge T-Rex.

Powered by an XL Motor, plus another two for steering, this colourful 6-wheel-drive creation will climb over almost anything. And it’ll easily squash a group of fleeing Elves if one of their number is at the controls.

Lego Technic RC 6x6 Dodge T-Rex

As well as being a terrifying (although also slightly comical) dinosaur and a rather excellent 1970s rock band, T-Rexs also come in a vehicular variety. This is one, built by MOCpages’ Desert752 Kirill, features 6-wheel-drive, 4-wheel-steering and some very green bodywork. Lego KrAZ 255B Trucks

MOCpages’ Ingmar Spijkhoven, a veteran of The Lego Car Blog, is back, with not one but three incredible remote controlled KrAZ 255B trucks. In fact there are nine models, once all the possible combinations of tractor and payload are included.

Powered by an XL motor each, with 6×6 drive, a working V8 engine, servo steering and solid axle suspension on all wheels, Ingmar’s KrAZ trucks are an engineering triumph.

HW 01

The Homeworld strategy game burst onto the scene in late 1999. It soon gained a cult following, both for its game-play and its distinctive graphic design. Many of the ships were brightly patterned, reminiscent of designs from 1970s pulp book covers by the likes of Chris Foss and Peter Elson. The designs have inspired many Lego builders, most notably TLCB bloggee Pierre E Fieschi, who has built a variety of space and ground vehicles in this style.

Flickr’s curtydc has joined in the Homeworld inspired building with a micro-scale build of massive proportions. The Baserunner is a 6×6 truck, powered by two XL motors and steered using two M motors. Neatly tucked behind X-pod lids are 6 radio control car tyres. Although they’re not Lego, were very much appreciated by our Elves for their smushing potential. The rear of the vehicle features a hangar, with space for a fleet of micro-machines. You can see these in detail by clicking this link to curtydc’s Flickr Photostream.

Lego Tatra T148 Truck Trial

HorcikDesigns‘ likes to get his Lego dirty. Truck Trial is his chosen method, and the Tatra T148 is his chosen vehicle. Featuring two Lego Buggy Motors for drive, a Power Functions M Motor for steering, and fully independent half-axel suspension Horcik’s recreation of the famous off-road truck is perfectly equipped to tackle the rough stuff. Dirty Lego

Much of what we feature here at The Lego Car Blog is the work of AFOLs (Adult Fans Of Lego). This usually means an impeccably photographed, spotlessly clean and brilliant creation, which will forever be placed within a glass cabinet away from light, air, and fingers.

But that’s not what Lego is about. Lego is designed for kids, it’s tough, and it likes to get dirty. Above all else, Lego is for playing with.

Thankfully some AFOLs do retain the childish desire to drive a Lego creation through a big pile of mud, something we whole heartedly approve of here in TLCB office. Truck Trial is their chosen means, and it involves building a remote control replica truck to drive as fast and far as possible through an obstacle course before crashing or breaking something. And that sounds awesome to us!

This trial truck was discovered on the Lego picture-sharing site Brickshelf. It’s a Tatra 6×6 by Atrx, powered by two Power Functions XL motors and controlled via a Mindstorms NXT brain. And it’s delightfully dirty!

Lego Classic Space 6x6

Today’s final creation comes from Flickr’s Billyburg, who has travelled back to the mid ’80s and returned with this marvellous Classic Space 6×6 transport truck. Just look how happy the classic spaceman driving is with his new wheels! But then again, they always are…

GMC CCKW

Lego GMC Army TruckThis nondescript abbreviation is an American GMC army truck built during World War 2, that then saw service in the Korean War a few years later. Featuring 6×6 drive the CCKW was used to transport all manner of military goods and was built in a variety of specifications. =DoNe=‘s closed cab flatbed version is shown here and you can see more on Flickr.

Lego DUKWThis Lego DUKW World War II amphibious truck is certainly more fun than a yellow bath toy, although it probably doesn’t float. The real thing does though, hence the ‘Duck’ nickname. Over 21,000 were produced for the Allies during the Second World War for use in the Pacific and during the D-Day Landings, with many surviving today as tourist and leisure craft on our cities’ rivers.
