It’s election night here in TLCB’s home nation, and here is a Toyota Corolla Trueno AE86 pictured in a full ‘Initial D’ drift. Is it swinging from right to left, heading perilously close to the cliff-edge, crashing-out, or gaining a conservative majority? OK, that last analogy didn’t work, but we’re quite proud of the first three! Previous bloggee Simon Przepiorka, now known as SP_LINEUP, is the builder behind this most excellent scene and you can cast your ballot, er… we mean see more of his brilliant drifting Initial D AE86 on Flickr via the link above.

More More than Meets the Eye

The Elves are in a very buoyant mood today! Flickr’s Alex Jones (aka Orion Pax) has been uploading Transformers builds and such a prodigious rate that we’ve been handing out meal tokens like Smarties. And we’ve also been handing out Smarties.

These are a sample of some of his latest Autobot and Decepticon creations, following the first tranche we published here a month or so ago. Each is beautifully built and presented, transforms through some sort of magic, and can be seen – alongside a raft of other equally awesome Transformers builds not shown here – at Alex’s photostream.

If there’s something that gets the Elves as excited as a car with big racing stripe down the middle it’s a mech with a giant gun. This one comes from Flickr’s Marco Marozzi, it’s entitled the ‘MRGM 3’ and we have absolutely no idea what it does or what it’s for. But it looks cool. See more at the link.

War is complicated. However much Fox News try to dumb it down into a simple ‘goodies vs. baddies’ fight, it is rarely – if ever – the reality.

Take this for example, the American F-14A ‘Tomcat’ fighter, which is flown by the Iranian Air Force. Yup, the very same Iran that the U.S threatens to wipe off the map every six weeks.

Because not very long ago Iran were on the side of the U.S. in the first Gulf War, if not for their comradeship with America more their hatred of Iraq.

Not that Fox News remembers that of course. Anyway, this rather brilliant Republic of Iran Air Force F14-A ‘Persian Tomcat’ comes from regular bloggee Ralph Savelsberg (aka Mad Physicist), who has replicated the real Iranian fighter – including its desert camouflage – in stunning realism.

LEGO’s Speed Champions range has recently expanded. Not just in number, like your Mom’s list of past boyfriends, but in girth, just like your Mom. As revealed here last month the new Speed Champions sets have adopted increased dimensions, going from from six studs in width to eight. This brings with it an increased level of realism as well as the ability for two mini-figures to fit side-by-side.

One of LEGO’s previous Speed Champions sets, the 75884 Ford Mustang, now looks a little thin by comparison, so Joao Campos of MOCpages has given it a thorough update to match the new 8-wide Speed Champions scale.

Suggested by a reader, Joao’s classic Ford Mustang Fastback looks every bit as good as LEGO’s latest Speed Champions releases, and whole lot better than the already decent official set (which you can see pictured alongside it in the images above)

With only 230 parts Joao’s Mustang also looks to be an easy recreation for other builders to try, particularly those that own the official 75884 set already. Head to Joao’s Ford Mustang page on MOCpages to see the complete gallery of images.

Death Stranding

We’ve never played the Death Stranding video game but if its vehicles are anything to go by we might like to. This is one such vehicle from the title, recreated by yu chris of Flickr. Chris’ model includes custom decals, raising suspension, and some of the cleverest ‘weathering’ we’ve ever seen in brick form. Head to Chris’ photostream via the link above to see more.

Lego Landies

The new 42110 Technic Land Rover Defender set has got us all wishing LEGO had made the original Defender instead. Or, better yet, from before the Defender was called the Defender, and simply known as a Land Rover.

This trio of pre-Defender Land Rovers comes from previous bloggee Vibor Cavor who has constructed his models in a delightfully simple style that befits a delightfully simple vehicle. They also hark back to when LEGO sets were a whole lot more simple too, and – sometimes – all the better for it. Which reminds us of a certain new Land Rover again…

Highway to the Dreary Zone*

Fighter pilots. Adrenaline junkies who live life on the edge, where gravity is so banal they have to multiply it by a factor of nine just to stay awake. You’d imagine then, that when they’re not piloting a 2,000mph missile upside-down they’re driving something pretty spectacular. An AMG-Mercedes, perhaps a Dodge Hellcat, or a hot rod with an engine measured in cubic feet.

Not according to previous bloggee Ralph Savelsberg though, as the Royal Netherlands Air Force pilots of this glorious F-16AM Viper drive… a Renault Trafic van. Um, OK.

It is a beautifully built Renault Trafic van, but it is, nevertheless, still a Renault Trafic van. There’s more to see of the Renault, and the considerably more interesting F-16 Viper fighter jet that accompanies it, at Ralph’s photostream. Take the Highway to the Dreary Zone* via the link above.

Cruising the Clouds

Of all the sub-themes the online Lego Community has taken on, sky-fi is the one that confuses us the most. Boats in the air, or even in space – where they don’t need to be aerodynamic let alone hydrodynamic – it all makes absolutely no sense. But does it need to, because a) Lego is escapism, and b) the theme generates creations that look as marvellous as this.

‘This’ is Sunder_59‘s ‘Air Battlecruiser’, and whilst we don’t know how it works, it is a properly wonderful build. Barely a stud is visible thanks to some brilliant ‘SNOT’ techniques, whilst a battery of guns and even an on-board micro-scale fighter plane add to the detail.

Night Rider

We manage to post a car or two and then we’re right back to blogging a freaky chick riding a hover bike. Oh well, it is an excellent build nonetheless. This is ‘Lalibela Upbeat’, a curiously Game-of-Thrones-Night-King-looking figure who sounds a bit like a woke female DJ, riding her ‘Dawn Resurgence’ speeder. Nope, we don’t know what any of that means either but it is a rather excellent build, utilising some of LEGO’s more unusual colours, featuring some ingenuous techniques, and displaying a fair bit inventive parts usage too. Space ‘Stang

This is not a car, but it somehow manages to feature more car references than many cars do. And that doesn’t even make sense. Built for NoVVember (another annual month-long building bandwagon we don’t understand) by Mark B. aka ABS Shipyards, it’s a space-based nod to one of America’s most legendary muscle cars, the Ford Mustang 302 ‘Boss’.

The huge (and excellent) ‘302’ numbering on the sides complete with the tri-colour Mustang stripe running through it is hard to miss, but there’s a wealth of other brilliant references to the ’70s muscle car hidden throughout the build. Head into space via the link above to see how many you can spot, followed by doing whatever the equivalent of a burnout is in zero gravity before crashing into a space station. This is a Mustang after all!

Wrong Side of the Tracks*

Thomas the Tank Engine has had enough! Fed up of shunting along the stupid Ffarquhar branchline, rescuing the hapless James, and taking orders from the authoritarian Fat Controller, Thomas has grown himself mechanical arms and legs purely from the rage burning inside his boiler, he’s about to get mad, and Vicarstown isn’t going to know what hit it.

Flickr’s Dvd owns the somewhat unhinged mind that has managed to turn a children’s classic into a steam-powered automaton and there’s more to see of his frankly terrifying Thomas the Mech Engine creation at his photostream. Now will someone please build a car so we can blog without having nightmares.

Is Halo Still a Thing?

Well if it is here’s a Scorpion Main battle tank from the game.

Thanks to the seemingly unending series of terrible ‘Warthog’ and ‘Master Chief’ creations that plagued MOCpages for years we’ve actively avoided publishing Halo models here, so ingrained is our hatred of them. However those days are now thankfully long gone and we’re finally able to admit liking a Halo model. Kinda like it being OK to admit to liking Journey’s ‘Don’t stop believing’ now that Glee has finally finished. Just us? OK… No matter, this Halo Scorpion Battle Tank is rather good, it comes from ZiO Chao of Flickr, and there’s more to see at his photostream here.
