MC Battle

Nope, not an ‘8 Mile’ style rap battle, but these; two stunning Maserati MC12s that appeared within hours of each other on Flickr. This caused a spectacularly violent Elf-fight (of course), as each was brought back to TLCB Towers and the two Elves immediately accused one another of copying the the other’s homework. In Elvish though, so we’re guessing somewhat.

No matter, because both are equally bloggable meaning both Elves get fed, and you guys get two brilliant MC12s in one post. The first (above) comes from Flickr’s Noah_L, who has captured the MC12’s remarkable shape brilliantly in its iconic white-over-blue colour scheme. The second (below) is the work of Jens M. (one half of Master MOCers ‘LegoExotics’) and utilises many of the parts found within the 10265 Ford Mustang set for a considerably more exotic purpose.

There’s more to see of each stunning Maserati MC12 model on Flickr – click the links above to visit the builders’ respective albums and pick your favourite!

Come Back Around*

Things have a habit of coming back around. Lava lamps, 1920s baby names, politicians called Bush or Clinton…

We hope this does, the glorious 1970s Maserati Boomerang. Named after the indigenous Australian bendy stick that always comes back (for reasons we don’t understand at all), the Boomerang was a one-off concept car designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro that was unusually registered for road use and that even more usually still exists today.

Previous bloggee RGB900 has recreated the iconic Maserati in Speed Champions scale, and in a neat circularity has brought LEGO’s new canopy piece back around again to shape the cockpit of his build, following its use by Jonathan Elliott for a Lamborghini Countach earlier in the month and its original appearance in the official 75890 Ferrari F8 Speed Champions set.

We suspect it’s a part that will keep coming back too, so well does it seem to fit all sorts of Speed Champions designs, and there’s more to see of its appearance on RGB900’s lovely Maserati Boomerang at his photostream. Click the link above to give it a throw.

*Today’s ace title song.

Bora Bora

Lego Maserati Bora

So good they named it twice. The French Polynesian island does look pretty nice, but it’s not quite as lovely as this. This brilliant little Speed Champions style 1971 Maserati Bora comes from previous bloggee Jonathan Elliott and he’s captured the gorgeous Giugiaro design wonderfully. There’s more to see of Jonathan’s 6-wide Bora on Flickr at the link above, where you can also find several other superb Speed Campions classics.

Model Team Maserati

Lego Maserati 250F Tipo

We’re starting to think that Formula 1 is becoming a bit, well… boring. You can thank Bernie Ecclestone’s enormous rulebook for the current state of affairs, but back in the ’50s the racing was gloriously exciting, due in most part to the fact that the rulebook could probably fit in a small pamphlet.

This exquisite 1957 Maserati 250F Tipo takes us back to a time when things actually happened on an F1 racetrack, when the Argentinian legend Juan Manuel Fangio overcame a 51 second deficit to win the German Grand Prix (and then the championship). Noah_L (aka Lego Builders) is the builder and there’s more to see of his beautifully photographed creation on both MOCpages and Flickr.

S&M

Citroen SMProbably the weirdest of all the weird Citroens was the SM, built during the 1970s when Citroen owned Maserati. Stephan Sander has used his most ’70s coloured bricks (well, maybe apart from brown) to build the French motoring icon in a wonderful LEGO Miniland look. See all the photos of the SM at Stephen’s page on MOCpages via the link above.

Big Italian Truck

Big Italian Truck

Fiat 642 Maserati Transporter. Well, 98% of one.

If you follow the vehicle rules in the MOCpages group Classic Race Teams the results will always be good. Proof is here again…

This awesome Italian truck for Classic Race Teams, built by Lego Builder Jr., features the original Maserati colour scheme and some nice details and functions. It’s worth checking out on Flickr and MOCpages, and maybe you can help provide the pieces needed to finish it.

Lego Maserati Tipo

Larry Pan’s Maserati Tipo

Time for another ‘Featured TFOL’ (Teen Fan Of Lego), and for us to go back to our roots and post a proper car (hurrah!). This beautiful ’60s racer is a Maserati Tipo 151/3, and it’s been built by Larry Pan on MOCpages. Larry has also built a Maserati MC12 and… er, not all that much else yet – but it’s what he’s going to build that earns him a place on The Lego Car Blog. He’s only a few cars in and he’s already building upside-down. One to watch.
