Liquid Hot Magma

No not the morning after a spicy curry, but this; South Korea’s first Le Mans hypercar, the Genesis Magma Racing GMR-001.

Built for the burgeoning Hypercar class, the GMR-001 combines an Oreca LMDh chassis with an in-house twin-turbo V8 based on two 4-cylinder engines from Hyundai’s World Rally Car. The team would also have the coolest name at Le Mans if it wasn’t for a certain world-dominting villain.

The WEC’s Hypercar class is booming. From years of only a handful of cars there are now almost two-dozen, with more set to join. One of the front-runners is Cadillac, with their V-Series.R run by the British Hertz Team JOTA outfit who switched from Porsche for the 2026 season, meaning that Cadillac are now in both Formula 1 and Le Mans.

D-Cup

Exactly half-way between the death of King Edward VII and Salad Fingers came this, the glorious 1957 Jaguar D-Type.

Launched in 1955 the D-Type was specifically designed to win the Le Mans 24 Hours, with a 3.4 litre straight-six and a host of aeronautical inspired innovations – most notably the tail-fin to provide stability for the (then un-chicaned) Mulsanne Straight.

The result was an outright win in ‘55, ‘56, and most dominantly in ‘57, when 250,000 spectators watched the D-Type – now with an enlarged 3.8 litre engine – take first, second, third, fourth, and sixth places.

Eurovision

The Lego Car Blog’s home nation has just come last in the Eurovision Song Contest. Again.

Yes the nation of Adele, The Beatles, The Cure, Dire Straits, ELO, Florence & the Machine… and that’s just the first six letters of the alphabet… can’t beat any disposable European electropop.

So to cheer ourselves up we’re heading back seven decades to when the UK could actually beat Europe at something, and this glorious 1951 Talbot-Lago T26 and 1959 Aston Martin DBR1.

The gorgeous Talbot-Lago isn’t British of course but French, and it came second at Le Mans in 1951 to a Jaguar, which supports our patriotic narrative, whilst the DBR1 beat Ferrari to win at Le Mans in 1959.

We’re sticking with classic cars today, and this lovely Speed Champions 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, that won Le Mans in the hands of Phil Hill and Oliver Gendebien.

Created by SFH_Bricks, this beautifully presented model captures the iconic Ferrari racer superbly, and you can join Hill and Gendebien in France in ‘58 via the link.

The First of Many

It’s 1970, and northern France is being pounded by heavy rain. Of the dozens of starters at that year’s Le Mans 24 Hours, only seven remain. The leading three are built by a manufacturer that has never won the race before. Richard Attwood and Hans Herrmann’s Porsche Salzburg 917K crosses the finish line five laps ahead of the rest, beginning a run that to date includes nineteen outright wins, making Porsche the most successful manufacturer in Le Mans history.

Blue and Yellow*

There are few things cooler than a red (they were all red) Ferrari F40. But if that thing is a blue and yellow F40 racer, that’d do it.

Cue Lachlan Cameron’s spectacular Technic Ferrari F40, which appeared here in road-going form back in 2023, and has now been built – courtesy of Lachlan producing instructions for his models – in a brilliant blue and yellow racing livery by another builder.


Xiao Baiya is behind the F40’s stunning conversion from road car to racer, which includes custom 3D-printed wheels with brakes behind them, and of course the epic decal work required to transform the model into the 1996 Team Ennea Ferrari F40 Le Mans contender.

Aston Honda

If Formula 1 pre-season testing is to believed, newly formed Aston Martin Honda are in big trouble. And if we’re honest we found Aston’s move to Honda bit odd seeing as Mercedes-Benz AMG part own Aston Martin road cars, provide their engines and electrics, and have a good F1 powertrain available to buy. Still, at least it won’t change Lance Stroll’s performance, as he was at the back anyway.

Cue today’s double, from both Aston Martin and Honda (via Acura), this time with competing endurance sports cars.

Constructed by TLCB regular SFH_Bricks, the Speed Champions Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH #23 IMSA and Acura ARX-06 MSR #93 capture their real-world counterparts brilliantly, thanks in no small part to the simply outstanding liveries and custom-printed tyres.

GT LM GTE #68

This is a Ford GT LM GTE, which is – admittedly – not a good name. But it is one heck of a car, winning the GTE class at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2016 exactly 50 years after Ford first took outright victory.

This spectacular Technic replica of that very car (the #68, driven by Joey Hand, Sebastien Bourdais and Dirk Muller) comes from Jeroen Koopman, and recreates the GT LM GTE brilliantly in Technic Supercar form.

Working steering, a V6 engine hooked up to a sequential 6-speed gearbox, advanced in-board suspension, opening butterfly doors, and removable bodywork all feature, with some superb photography of the engineering within joining the exterior shots on Flickr.

American Achievement

It’s the day after that Alaskan summit, in which presidents Trump and Putin held, to quote Trump, a “10 out of 10” discussion, in which they “got along great”. Except it achieved nothing at all. Still, we suppose Trump and Putin do have much in common, so that’s nice.

But when America does put its mind to Europe, it can achieve great things. Cue the Cadillac V-Series.R, General Motors’ entrant into the burgeoning WEC Hypercar class, and now a race winner sitting third in the sizeable top-tier class of the championship. Which bodes well for Cadillac’s forthcoming entry to Formula 1.

Built on an Italian Dallara chassis and run by the British Jota Sport team, it also proves that America can benefit from European expertise. We hope that might be remembered in round two of the Ukrainian peace talks that perhaps should include Ukraine.

Oh yes, the car! The Heart of Racing

After years of limited entries, Le Mans’ ‘Hypercar’ class exploded to over twenty entrants in 2025. The newest team to join the top tier of endurance racing is Aston Martin, who – uniquely – entered with the ‘road’ car based Valkyrie.

Powered by a naturally-aspirated V12 Cosworth engine (actually detuned in the race car to meet maximum power regulations), the Valkyrie was run by the Anglo-Amercian ‘The Heart of Racing’ team, and performed… not brilliantly. But both cars did finish, and ahead of a couple of Hypercar entries including a Toyota, two BMWs, two Cadillacs, a Peugeot, and a disqualified Ferrari.

Night Out Of The Museum

It’s Star Wars Day! So to celebrate here’s a classic Porsche 936.81 Le Mans racer. Yeh, we’re not great at sci-fi. But no matter, because the story of the Porsche 936.81 is much more interesting than George Lucas’s space saga.

First racing in the mid-70s, the 936 was rather outdated by the early ’80s, and thus surviving units were residing in a museum. Needing a car for Le Mans, Porsche brought the cars out of retirement, brought their drivers out of retirement too, and fitted a detuned engine from an Indy Car.

The resultant hodge-podge unbelievably won the 1981 Le Mans 24 Hours, with a museum-piece car, a retired driver, and a left-over engine. And that’s a better story than anything in Star Wars.

Alpine Past

Alpine are back from the dead, with new production cars, a re-badged Renault Formula 1 Team, and re-badged Oreca Le Mans Hypercars. Which is nice and all, but they were cooler the first time round. Particularly when they built this; the 1978 Le Mans-winning Renault Alpine A442B.

Only two manufacturers competed for outright victory in ’78, but with the other being Porsche and Alpine’s Didier Pironi and Jean-Pierre Jaussaud completing a record distance over the twenty-four hours, the victory was still an immense achievement.

Le Mans Matra

Matra. The greatest car manufacturer most have never heard of. Formula 1 World Champions, three-time Le Mans Winners, and creators of hugely influential production-car successes like this, segment-pioneering inventions like this, and colossal failures like this.

That last one bankrupted the company, which disappeared forever in 2003, so we’ll jump back to 1972 when Matra where on top of not just their game, but everyone else’s, taking the first of three Le Mans wins in a row.

They did so with this, the wild Matra Simca MS670, which won the race by eleven laps in the hands Henri Pescarolo and Graham Hill, with another MS670 in second. This superb Speed Champions recreation of Matra’s ’72 endurance racer is the work of SFH_Bricks of Flickr, who has added it to his ever-growing roster of Le Mans cars.
