Wings (Part I)

Lego Datsun 240Z Drift

Drifting, as we learned earlier this week, has been around for some time. Today’s favoured drift weapons are 1990s Japanese cars, being relatively cheap (although the drift tax is now causing values to rocket), rear drive, and – most importantly in the modern drift scene – cool.

We’d prefer this though. It’s a glorious 1970s Datsun 240Z, one of the prettiest cars to come out of Japan, and one of the prettiest cars to come from the ’70s too. Flickr’s Simon Przepiorka is the builder as he’s fully driftized (what – it’s a word!) his 240Z with the addition of a wide-arch kit, what looks like a front-mounted intercooler, and an enormous rear wing.

Why drift cars need rear wings we don’t know, seeing as they’re going too slow to generate any downforce, they’re sideways so the air isn’t flowing it in a straight line, and surely downforce (and therefore grip) is the opposite of what helps cars to break traction anyway.

If you know drop us a note in comments, but we strongly suspect it’s to do with that ‘cool’ thing mentioned above. Anyway, Simon’s lovely Speed Champions scale be-winged Datsun 240Z can be found on Flickr – click the link above to get sideways.

Catching Some ‘Z’s

Lego Datsun Fairlady Z

Nothing beats catching some ‘Z’s. Fortunately we can do just that thanks to Simon Prezepiorka and these three brilliant Datsun Fairlady/240Zs. Simon’s Speed Champions builds have become firm favourites here at TLCB Towers and you can check more of this trio as well as his past creations via the link to Flickr above.

Three Champions

Lego Datsun 240Z Fairlady

It’s a bumper haul today at The Lego Car Blog as we have not one, not two, but three superb models to show you. Newcomer Simon Przepiorka recently uploaded a trio of brilliant Speed Champions-style creations to Flickr and is here making his TLCB debut with all three!

Lego Datsun 240Z Fairlady

First up is the wonderful Datsun 240Z pictured in the image above in a retina-searing orange and in the first image in a cool white. Measuring just eight studs wide Simon’s gorgeous recreation of one of Japan’s most iconic sports cars not only looks superbly accurate, it features a plethora of opening panels too, including the doors, tailgate and hood – all of which reveal further detailing within.

Lego Nissan R34 Skyline GTR

Simon’s second creation is another icon from Nissan, this excellent R34 Skyline GTR. One of the most accurate Lego R34s we’ve seen in any scale, Simon’s model includes opening doors, trunk and hood, with a detailed interior and the GTR’s beautifully replicated RB26DETT engine neatly constructed in Lego too.

Simon’s third and final Speed Champions model is another classic, this stunning Chevrolet Camaro SS, again complete with opening everything and with a miniature V8 engine under the hood.

All three creations are well worth a closer look and you can do just that at each model’s Flickr album. Click this link for the Datsun 240Z, this one for the Nissan Skyline GTR, and this one for the Chevrolet Camaro SS.

Sittin’ Pretty

Lego Datsun 240Z

This TLCB writer is going to poke his head above the metaphorical parapet that is the internet’s comments and state that the prettiest sports car of the 1970s is not a Jaguar, Porsche, or Alfa Romeo… but a Datsun. In particular, this Datsun – the wonderful 1970 240Z.

This lightly JDM-modified 240Z comes from Jonathan Elliott and it captures the Japanese sports car’s curves beautifully. There’s more to see on both Flickr and MOCpages via the links, and you can find today’s title track – by none other than The Datsuns – by clicking here.

Atomic Lady

Lego Atomic Punk Hot Rod

It’s time for a builder double! Flickr’s LEGO Bro is a veteran bloggee of TLCB and today he makes his return with three top quality cars. Above is his ‘Atomic Punk‘ hot rod entry into the LUGNuts ‘100 Ways to Win’ challenge, whilst below he’s hoping for another way to win with his neat Nissan/Datsun Fairlady combo. See more of each build on Flickr via the links.

BanZai!

Lego Datsun 240Z

Flickr’s _Tiler could have his own page here at TLCB, so regularly does he appear. His latest build is a model that we want so much it hurts. His brilliant wide-arched Datsun 240Z shows you don’t need to build big to build special. You can see more of _Tiler’s 6-wide masterpiece at his photostream – click the link above to make the jump.

My Fairlady

Lego Datsun Fairlady Z

This gorgeous Datsun Fairlady / 240Z was discovered by one of our Elves on Flickr. It’s the work of Cagerrin and we love absolutely everything about it. There’s a whole host of images available to view on Flickr – click the link above to see more.

Outlawz

Lego Outlaw Datsun 240Z

The Elves are little grumpy today as this find comes from one of you. Suggested via the Feedback page is previous bloggee piratecox‘s mean-looking ‘Outlaw’ Datsin 240Z. Complete with a roll-cage, big rims, flared arches and a front mounted intercooler(?) it’s been built and photographed superbly, and you can see more at the link above.

Two Hundred and Forty Winks

Lego Datsun 240Z

This bewitchingly beautiful creation comes from TLCB favourite _Tiler. A lesson in both brilliant Lego building and exceptional photography, _Tiler’s gorgeous Datsun 240Z is surely one of the mini-figure scale highlights of the year so far.

You can see all the images of _Tiler’s recreation of Japan’s best known classic sports car on Flickr – click the link above to make the jump.

Japan’s E

Lego Datsun 240Z

It’s time for one of your suggestions (much to our Elves’ annoyance), this one being passed on to us via our Feedback page.

The Datsun 240Z might be the prettiest Japanese car ever made (although it does seem to have taken more than a little inspiration form Jaguar’s E-Type), and LegoMarat has done a fine job recreating it in Lego form. It’s remotely controlled too, and you can see the images at his photostream.

Rising Sun

Image

Senator Chinchilla’s got out his big box of yellow plates again… and joined them together to spectacular effect in the shape of this Datsun 240Z. Notable for its bigness, careful detailing, lovely seats, bigness, many technical niceties, excellent shaping and bigness. See it on MOCpages: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/344722
