The Nissan/Datsun 280Z/Fairlady Z was never quite as pretty as its 240/260Z predecessors. However previous bloggee SP_LINEUP aims to address this by making his 280Z Fairlady well… a bit fatter. Unlike your Mom however, SP’s Fairlady Z wears its wider bodywork superbly, with black arch extensions, a front splitter, and phat exhaust. Well, not this one; it’s owned by builder SP_LINEUP, but he’s also released his superb restomod classic Datsun as a kit available to buy. The model includes opening doors that reveal a wonderfully detailed interior, and an opening hood under which lives an accurately replicated RB26DET engine. Yup, because if you own the 42056 LEGO Technic Porcshe 911 GT3 RS set you could also own this lovely Datsun 240Z. Just not at the same time.
Builder pleasedontspammebro has created the classic Japanese sports car from the parts only found within the 42056 set, and has made instructions available so you can repurpose your own Porsche too. The Datsun features steering, a straight-6 engine, opening doors and bonnet, a 5-speed gearbox, independent suspension, and wheels that are – coming from the Porsche set – a little too large… but you can fix that.

The internet’s answer to literally any engine-related question, ‘Put an LS in it‘ seems to be the default setting for most YouTube commenters, and – although it pains us to say it – not without good reason.
Compact, plentiful, powerful, and even available off-the-shelf new in ‘crate’ form, General Motors’ iconic V8 has been in use since 1996, powering everything in their line-up from sports cars to trucks.
The LS has since found its way into a myriad of other vehicles, often thanks to the fact that whilst the engine was good many of the cars in which it was originally fitted were complete crap, making it readily available for pocket-money in breakers yards.
Previous bloggee Simon Przepiorka has built a car that could be based on any number from the depths of YouTube, and it looks – well – awesome! Simon’s classic ’70s Datsun 240Z features a wide-arch kit, custom aero, and – of course – the obligatory LS V8-swap under the hood.

Drifting, as we learned earlier this week, has been around for some time. Today’s favoured drift weapons are 1990s Japanese cars, being relatively cheap (although the drift tax is now causing values to rocket), rear drive, and – most importantly in the modern drift scene – cool.
We’d prefer this though. It’s a glorious 1970s Datsun 240Z, one of the prettiest cars to come out of Japan, and one of the prettiest cars to come from the ’70s too. Flickr’s Simon Przepiorka is the builder as he’s fully driftized (what – it’s a word!) his 240Z with the addition of a wide-arch kit, what looks like a front-mounted intercooler, and an enormous rear wing.
Why drift cars need rear wings we don’t know, seeing as they’re going too slow to generate any downforce, they’re sideways so the air isn’t flowing it in a straight line, and surely downforce (and therefore grip) is the opposite of what helps cars to break traction anyway.

Nothing beats catching some ‘Z’s. Fortunately we can do just that thanks to Simon Prezepiorka and these three brilliant Datsun Fairlady/240Zs. Simon’s Speed Champions builds have become firm favourites here at TLCB Towers and you can check more of this trio as well as his past creations via the link to Flickr above.
It’s a bumper haul today at The Lego Car Blog as we have not one, not two, but three superb models to show you. Newcomer Simon Przepiorka recently uploaded a trio of brilliant Speed Champions-style creations to Flickr and is here making his TLCB debut with all three!
First up is the wonderful Datsun 240Z pictured in the image above in a retina-searing orange and in the first image in a cool white. Measuring just eight studs wide Simon’s gorgeous recreation of one of Japan’s most iconic sports cars not only looks superbly accurate, it features a plethora of opening panels too, including the doors, tailgate and hood – all of which reveal further detailing within.
Simon’s second creation is another icon from Nissan, this excellent R34 Skyline GTR. One of the most accurate Lego R34s we’ve seen in any scale, Simon’s model includes opening doors, trunk and hood, with a detailed interior and the GTR’s beautifully replicated RB26DETT engine neatly constructed in Lego too.
Simon’s third and final Speed Champions model is another classic, this stunning Chevrolet Camaro SS, again complete with opening everything and with a miniature V8 engine under the hood.
