Powder Pusher

Lego Technic Unimog 8110

It might be the middle of summer here at the TLCB Towers (causing us many hot pant/mini skirt related distractions whilst driving), but our worldwide readership means that many of you will be reading this with your heating cranked up and a jumper on. If you’re one of our winter-bound readers then today’s post is just for you!

It’s the work of Brickshelf’s stefanbetulapendula, and he’s done a superb job fitting LEGO’s own 8110 Unimog set with all the equipment needed for a snowstorm.

Up front is a fantastically intricate looking snow blower, whilst a grit/salt hopper and dispenser has been mounted on the Unimog’s load-bed. Stefan has also retro-fitted Power Functions receivers and motors, making his Unimog fully remote-controlled too.

You can check out all the modifications via the complete gallery on Brickshelf by clicking the link above, and you can read TLCB’s expert review of the original LEGO Technic 8110 Unimog set by clicking here.

Gazza

Lego GAZ 67

It might sound like the Match.com identity of a guy in a pub in the midlands*, but the Gaz 67 is actually a rugged little off-road vehicle that was originally developed for the Russian military. Which explains the ‘Z’ in the name, as the Soviets seemed to name everything with a Z (‘cos Z’s sound cool), and also why it was a bit rubbish. [Maks] mini-figure scale Gaz is anything but rubbish though, and you can see more of his ace little creation on Flickr at the link.

*Apologies to our non-British readers, who probably have no idea what we’re talking about.

The Best 4x4xFar

Lego Land Rover

Suggested to us by a reader we round off today’s Technic-biased musings with this superb Land Rover Defender. It was found on Image Shack and has been built by the previously unknown-to-us dirtzone.

The Defender features Power Functions drive and steering, opening doors, and a truly fantastic suspension set-up. Dirtzone has made a large gallery of images available to view at the aforementioned link, which includes chassis and component photographs. Check it out and be inspired!

Desert Wanderer

Lego Toyota FJ Cruiser

Ewald Straßmann (aka Brick Pimp) makes it two-in-a-week with his superb desert-crossing Toyota FJ Cruiser. See more of the mini-figures’ Savannah expedition on Flickr above.

Swiss Jeep

Lego Jeep CJ

We’re don’t think there are many old Jeeps in Switzerland. Clocks, chocolate, bankers and other stereotypes sure, but probably not Jeeps. Anyway, this mini-figure has taken his Jeep CJ to the Swiss Alps and it looks rather at home. Ewald Straßmann aka Brick Pimp is the builder, and you can see more here.

Humdinger

Lego Hummer H1

We are not fans of Hummer here at The Lego Car Blog. In fact it might be collectively our least favourite vehicle brand of all time. The Elves though – having no taste whatsoever – love this American institution, and so this post is for them.

Built by Technic legend Sariel, this Hummer H1 is one of the most complex and brilliantly engineered creations of the year so far. Containing four(!) XL Power Functions motors for drive, a remotely controlled high/low range gearbox, working indicator and reversing lights, windsreen wipers and a whole host of other functions, the only way to really see what it can do is in a suitably aggressive video complete with a hard rock soundtrack. Handily Sariel’s got that covered…

Scooby Doo

Lego technic Subrau Impreza WRX

Ask anyone from the Playstation generation what the most iconic car ever made is and you’ll get only two answers. One; the Nissan Skyline GTR, and Two; the Subaru Impreza WRX STI.

Brickshelf’s Pipasseyoyo has recreated the latter in simply astonishing technical detail, using standard LEGO Technic pieces to engineer the Scooby’s four-cylinder boxer engine, five-speed gearbox, symmetrical all-wheel-drive, and fully independent suspension and steering.

There’s a huge gallery of images available to view via the link above, but to really do this model justice it’s needs to be viewed in action. Thankfully Pipasseyoyo’s taken care of that too, with an excellent demonstration video. Watch it below…

Barbie’s Ride

Lego Small 4x4

Piterx is making his second appearance here at TLCB in one week with another RC Technic 4×4, and it’s even smaller than his last one. We can’t help thinking that this one would look more appropriate in pink though. See more on Eurobricks.

Shogun

Lego Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin

Back in the ’90s before SUVs became fashionable hatchbacks and every manufacturer added several to their line-up, the Japanese had a monopoly on compact 4x4s. Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi led the way with proper body-on-frame vehicles with genuine off-road ability.

One of the smallest was a three door version of Mitsubishi’s Pajero, known as the ‘Pinin’. Except we won’t call it the Pajero because here in the UK it had a far cooler name: the Shogun. Previous TLCB bloggee piterx has recreated the ’90s Shogun he owns in real life in Technic form, and it’s got some serious Lego engineering under its minimalist bodywork.

Squeezed into the tiny Pinin wheelbase is a proper all-wheel-drive system, remote controlled drive, steering, 4 speed sequential gearbox with reverse and an automated clutch. It doesn’t stop there either, as working brakes (with brake lights), MacPherson front suspension, live axle rear suspension and opening doors, hood and tailgate all feature too.

You can view all the photos of this brilliant engineering via Eurobricks at the link above, plus you can see the Shogun in action on YouTube – just click play below!

Back in Black

Lego 4x4 Truck Trial

Over to Eurobricks now, where Technic builder Madoca 1977 has published this very black 4×4 pick-up truck. Powered by LEGO’s XL motor plus a M motor for steering the truck features working lights, opening doors, a V4 piston engine and of course a monster all-wheel-drive chassis. See more and join the discussion by clicking the link above.

Lost Territory

Lego Ford Territory

Another day, another Elf, and another Smartie and meal token awarded. Today’s lucky worker earned its dinner via Brickshelf, where digital specialist lego911 has recently uploaded a few brick-built creations. This one is a 2009 Ford Territory, a yawningly boring SUV built by Ford Australia.

Ford Australia, GM Australia (Holden) and now Toyota Australia have all recently announced they will no longer be building cars in the country. Sadly this is very bad news for the thousands of workers in the manufacturing plants, and the many more who work in the supply chain; our sympathies and best wishes go to all affected.

But on the brightside the Territory will be no more too. You can see more of this one and lego911’s other creations by clicking on the link above.

Rhinoplasty

Lego Rhino Concept

We end the weekend with a second concept car; Aaden H’s ‘Rhino’. Built for a Flickr challenge it’s available to view here.

FJ Cruiser

Lego Toyota FJ Cruiser

This is, without doubt, the coolest thing that Toyota makes. And yes, we know about the Lexus LFA. The Toyota FJ Cruiser appeared as a concept car back in 2003 to show what a modern take on the old FJ-series Land Cruiser could be. The positive reaction that followed resulted in the car reaching production in 2005, and now 9 years later that production run is about to end, with the final cars rolling out of the Hamura factory later this year.

This near-perfect replica of the FJ Cruiser was designed and built by Peteris Sprogis, known here at TLCB for his delightfully strange concept vehicles. Peteris’ has now stepped into the world of realistic replicas, and his work is so good it looks as if LEGO themselves created it for Legoland theme park. You can see all the photos of this superb build by visiting Peteris’ photostream here.

Pinzgauer

Lego Pinzgauer Truck Trial

This weird-looking off-roady-van-type-thing is called a Pinzgauer. Originally from Austria it’s been used by Europe’s militaries for years, and it can go pretty much anywhere. This Technic version was built for Truck Trial by Flickr and MOCpages‘ Nimdian, and it’s packed with Power Functions. See all the photos at either site via the links.

Redneck Ride

Lego Lifted Pick-Up

This fully-studded 1984 Ford F-150 was suggested to us by a reader. Michael Janise is the builder and he’s thrown in everything a redneck ride needs; lift kit, spotlights, roll bar and an ice cooler. OK, everything bar a gun rack and a republican/confederate flag sticker on the rear bumper. See all the details on MOCpages here.
