A Service Truck? 2015 City Preview

One of our “volunteer” Elves has just returned from his mission over the wall into LEGO’s headquarters. He got a bit lost on his way to the Technic area that we really care about and stumbled into the “City” products. Fortunately he evaded the guard dogs and returned home carrying two new 2015 sets.

First up is the 60073 “Service Truck”. LEGO seems to be having trouble naming its products at the moment. We all know that the 42024 “Container Truck” is actually a skip lorry and surely 60073 should be the Portaloo? Perhaps LEGO couldn’t get a licence agreement or maybe they thought that mums and dads wouldn’t want to buy the set for their kids? But we all love a bit of toilet humour and LEGO’s photographers seem to be no exception, with a minifig in the cabin caught doing his business, on the box top.

The errant Elf also brought this rather lovely 60083 “Snowplow Truck”. Whilst it might not have the functionality of the 8110 Unimog, it certainly looks the part, with its orange snowplough blade and grit hopper. Both new sets will reach stores in early 2015.

New Lego 2015

It’s that time of year again when a crack team of The Lego Car Blog Elves is catapulted over the wall of The LEGO Group HQ in the hope of scooping next years’ LEGO line-up. Not all return (we’re pretty sure the guard dogs have learned it’s a tasty time of year), but for those that do fame and glory* await! We’re lucky enough to have sent a (mostly) successful Elf Team this year, and the photos they’ve returned with make for interesting viewing.

Unfortunately all of the images are under embargo at the moment, so it would be wrong of us to publish them just yet, but to whet your appetite here are some early details that we can share of what will be coming to stores in 2015;

Technic: Several small to medium sized Technic sets, some with wheels, some with tracks, and a few with pull-back motors. And a motorbike.

City: Construction equipment galore, a few things swampy and the usual array of emergency services. And a Unimog.

Pirates: Yaarr! They’re back!

Lego Scania TruckThe ‘Pile Driver’ is something we’re all too familiar here with here at TLCB Towers. The Elves seem to have a good working knowledge of wrestling moves and it’s one we see attempted fairly regularly before a blast of the air horn breaks them up. The ‘Pile Driver’ is also a large piece of construction equipment used for, er, driving piles, and msbbanl‘s done a superb job recreating one in Lego form including a lovely Town-scale Scania truck to haul it. Lego FSO Polozez

This fabulous model of a horrible car is the work of TLCB favourite Karwik on Flickr, who has, for reasons unknown to man and beast, chosen to recreate the abysmal FSO Polonez Hatchback, Coupe and Pick-Up in Lego.

Based on the bits Fiat left behind when they couldn’t be bothered to pack properly during their exit from Eastern Europe in the early ’80s, the FSO Polonez became a success in Poland almost purely because import taxes protected it from competition. This privileged position ended when Poland joined the EU and since then the FSO hatchback has been rapidly replaced by more advanced Western machinery.

The FSO Pick-Up however, has shown a bit more staying power, due to such merits as its large carrying capacity and being easy to fix. Probably not quite as easy to fix as Karwik‘s version though, of which you can see more on Flickr.

Joe's Garage LegoJoachim Klang, aka -derjoe- on Flickr, has built some marvellous vehicles over the years. Now, he’s pulled his best together, and built himself a garage to house them. Flags painted on roofs are always cool

This lovely Town-type hot rod comes from Misterzumbi on Flickr. Complete with a Danish flag on the roof, matching red wheels and rubber band suspension it’s the best thing to come out of Denmark since Helena Christensen. Oh, and maybe LEGO.

Amazing Lego Town

Henrik Hoexbroe’s amazing ‘ Kingstown, USA, 1959’

Today we’re pleased to bring you a MOC Special. One of our favourite Town builders, whose creations we’ve featured a few times here before, has pulled together all of his MOCs into one incredible Town-style layout. Set in 1959, Henrik Hoexbroe’s masterpiece includes some simply beautiful small-scale Americana, including Checker Taxis, Greyhound Buses, finned Cadillacs and countless other classic vehicles. Not only that, he’s set in them all in a living world of plastic, complete with diners, cinema, parks, a used car lot… there is is literally too much for us to pick out here.

The whole set-up was recently displayed at the HispaLUG Expo 2012 in Barcelona, and you can see the full gallery of pictures showing the complete scene in detail by visiting Henrik’s MOCpage at the link above. London Transport

The Elves got very excited during the Olympics this year, and as such they’ve been looking for anything a bit London-y since. An outing to Flickr uncovered something about as London-y as it’s possible to be; a classic Routemaster Bus. Lego Car Blog favourite Ralph S aka Mad Physicist is the builder behind it, and you can see more here.

Rust-eze sponsorship before Lightning McQueen; a bit… slower.

After ages without a single Lego Car Blog Elf returning to the office, three arrive back in the same day. We were beginning to think there was another dog with a taste for Elf flesh on the loose. Anyhow, the third addition to our bumper-day of posts is this splendid Vintage Truck from old-school master Marcus Paul aka Er0l. It’s complete with Disney Cars-themed decals, chromed exhaust manifold and headlights, and you can view it on MOCpages.

Greyhound Bus

The Elves don’t always get on with dogs – looking like bite-size luncheon somewhat inhibits any relationship with man’s best friend. So it was a brave Elf who ventured onto Henrik Hoexbroe’s MOCpage titled ‘Dog Transport‘. We’re glad he did because this 1950’s Greyhound coach is nothing short of a masterpiece. Henrik has a host of other tenuously titled creations too. Check out his MOCpage to see more of his work.

Rescue Chopper

No car today. Or is there....?

The builder of this large minifig scale transport heli, Plastikman aka Jetnoize, tells us it’s powered by a Lego Power Functions motor, and includes Power Functions LEDs. And some instrument panels. And two cyclic and two collective sticks to steer it. And the landing gear is retractable. The Elves also told us it can fly, but we’re not really sure they’re as trustworthy…
