Retribution Weapon 2

Lego V-2 Rocket

Today’s creation may look like a jauntily retro space rocket, but it is in fact an Aggregat 4, known affectionately by the Germans during World War 2 as the ‘Vergeltungswaffe 2’, (or V-2 for short). That extravagant title translates as ‘Retribution Weapon’, which is an apt name, because retribution was all the V-2 was designed to do. Which makes it surely one of mankind’s most evil inventions.

But also one of the cleverest. Whilst abhorrent in purpose, the V-2 rocket was brilliant in engineering. It was the world’s first guided ballistic missile (which considering it first few in 1944, when a computer was the size of an office block, is scarcely believable), and also the first man-made object to cross the boundary of space.

That cleverness made it all the more evil though, as the 3,000 V-2 rockets launched from Germany during the Second World War are estimated to have killed over 9,000 people in London, and later other European cities. Another 12,000 concentration camp prisoners died in the making of it, and yet at the end of the war the Allies rushed to capture the designs to accelerate their own missile production.

Thankfully this V-2 is nothing more than a collection of superbly shaped Danish plastic, and it comes from previous bloggee Sunder_59 of Flickr. There are further pictures of Sunder’s perfectly recreated Vergeltungswaffe at his photostream – click the link above to see more of the worst mankind can do.

Night Lights

Lego Space Centre

The Space Programme has, by a wide margin, produced the fastest vehicles on (and off) Earth. This spectacular recreation of the Kennedy Space centre, complete with beautifully integrated lighting, comes from Lia Chan of Flickr, and it features both the retired Space Shuttle and its SLS replacement. Lia’s huge build first appeared here last year, and has now been re-photographed to capture the creation at night. There’s a whole lot more to see at Lia’s photostream – click here to get ready to launch.

Despicable Motoring

Lego Despicable Me Gru Car

Ah Despicable Me, everyone’s favourite evil-villain-based computer-animated movie, including ours.

Unfortunately though, the film has been hi-jacked. Hi-jacked by the sort of people that feel the need to post what they’re having for breakfast on social media. Or to let everyone know that they really love their cat. Or – and we really can’t stress enough how awful these people are with this last example – sharing pictures of Despicable Me Minions with sycophantic phrases that have nothing to do with what the Minions in the picture are doing. At all.

‘Share if you love your best friend!’ Picture of a Minion. ‘I’m not fat, I just have airbags because I’m precious.’ Picture of a Minion. ‘Men have PMS too. Piss and Moan Syndrome!’ Picture of a Minion. It’s a cancer on the internet, and it needs to be stopped. And breathe.

Anyway, to offer some counterbalance to all the Minion related gibberish being produced by those with an IQ deficiency, here’s a Despicable Me post that doesn’t feature a picture a Minion. What it does feature is Gru’s rather magnificent rocket car, reproduced brilliantly in Lego form by Flickr’s -derjoe- and photographed by Peter Schmid.

There’s more to see at Peter’s photostream via the link above, plus you can build your own version as Peter has done courtesy of -derjoe-‘s book, which is available via Amazon.de here.

Mean Machine

Lego Wacky Races Mean Machine

And now here they are! The most daredevil group of daffy drivers to ever whirl their wheels in the Wacky Races. Competing for the title of World’s Wackiest Racer!… Sneaking along last is that Mean Machine with those double dealing do-badders Dick Dastardly and his sidekick, Muttley. And even now they’re up to some dirty trick!

Redfern1950s has completed his brilliant line-up of Wacky Races racers, with – fittingly in last place – the Mean Machine piloted by Dick Dastardly and his canine co-driver. You can see more of this wonderful cartoon contraption via the link above, and you can see the complete starting grid of Wacky Races builds that have featured here at TLCB by clicking here!

Our Crew is Replaceable, Your Package Isn’t.

Lego Futurama Planet Express Ship

Yes, yes… this is a digital build, but rules are made to be bent. Plus we really like Futurama! It helps that this replica of the Planet Express ship, digital though it may be, is an utterly perfect mini-figure recreation of the famous cartoon vessel, right down to the complete interior. Nicola Stocchi is the designer behind it and you take a trip to the world of tomorrow by clicking here.

Put a Rocket up Your A…

Triumph Rocket III

The Elves have been making ‘Brrrum Brrruuum’ noises and riding around the office on assorted kitchen equipment today. We have the creation pictured here to thank for this annoyance; it’s a Triumph Rocket III and it is – in fairness to the little turds – most excellent in every way. Previous bloggee Henrik Jensen is the builder and there’s lots more to see of his brilliant British bike on both MOCpages and Flickr – click the links to mount up.

Tintin In Space

Lego Space TinTin Rocket

This spectacular Classic Space Vs. Tintin mash-up is the work of certified Lego professional Ryan McNaught, aka TheBrickMan, and was discovered by one of our workers on Flickr.

Ryan’s enormous Tintin spaceship opens up to reveal a wonderfully detailed mini-figure interior, whilst the classic spacemen servicing the giant rocket* have a variety of classic space vehicles at their disposal, and the whole scene is mounted on a brilliant scaled-up version of the space baseplate that Lego produced to accompany the Classic Space range in the 1980s.

There’s loads more to see at Ryan’s photostream – click the link above to launch!

John’s Out Of Bog Roll Again…

Lego Thunderbirds

Sigh. ‘Alright’, groans an exasperated Alan, ‘I’ll take him another pack.’ ‘But tell him to go easy on the freeze-dried curry this time’ he adds.

The most pointless of the Tracy brothers, orbiting the Earth in Thunderbird 5, is about to get some more cushiony softness courtesy of his long suffering sibling, and Thunderbird 3 pilot, Alan.

This humongous Lego recreation of the Tracy family’s spaceship was discovered on Flickr. It’s the work of Gary Davis who is clearly rather stunningly talented with a Lego brick. You can see more of his incredible model at his photostream – click the link above to launch.

Les Aventures de Tintin

Lego Tintin Rocket

Belgium isn’t famed for having contributed much to humanity. Admittedly they did come up with the internal combustion engine – without which this blog wouldn’t have a lot of content – but after Stella Artois and The Smurfs we got stuck. Until we saw this.

It comes from TLCB newcomer gonkius, and he has recreated the impossibly curvy spaceship of Belgium’s favourite comic book character Tintin wonderfully. And hugely!

There’s more to see of this beautiful retro rocket on Flickr – click the above link to take the trip!

Rocket

Lego Oldsmobile Rocket Coupe

Back in the early post-war decades America made some cracking cars. This was one of them, the beautiful Oldsmobile ’88’ Rocket Coupe. This great recreation of the classic V8 is the work of Flickr’s Peter Blackert, making his second recent appearance here.

The ’88’ Rocket became one of the cult cars of the 1950s, and was probably the peak of Oldsmobile’s cool. By the late 1970s though, the U.S auto industry was struggling to make anything cool at all, and in 2004 General Motors folded the troubled brand. We have cars like this one to thank for that. Still, whatever has become of the Oldsmobile company, the Rocket will always remind us of a time when to drive American was a very good thing indeed.

Blast Off into Classic Space

Lego Space Rocket

Stephan N makes his second appearance here with this delightfully retro classic space rocket. We’re pretty sure those green classic spacemen are pleased with it. You can see all the images at both MOCpages and Flickr.

Bring in the Big Guns

Lego Anti-Aircraft GunFirst up is this impressive looking device; a fictional ‘SPAG’ (Self Propelled Anti-Aircraft Gun) built by iomedes !… You can see more of his sci-fi machine and his other works Flickr.

The second of our double post (below) is another fictional military creation, and although whilst the subject remains gloomy, this one does sport a cheerfully sunny paint job. You might as well look good!  ‘Drone 25’ is the work of Damien Labrousse aka Legodrome. Flickr is your friend once more.

Lego Sci-Fi Rocket Launcher

Steampunk, er…

Steampunk FlierThis wonderful creation is, er… it’s, er… well, steampu… Never mind, whatever this is you can see more of it here, via Galaktek’s photostream. If you know what it is, answers in the comments!

Re-Launch

Lego Mobile Rocket Launcher

Better in every way

We’re quite proud of our play-on-words title for this post, as it’s a redux of a Classic Space set, and a rocket laun… Get it?…

Well the Elves thought it was funny.

That was a lie. We’re pretty sure they can’t read. Anyway, one of the Elves did find this lovely redesign of one of LEGO’s most loved Classic Space sets on Flickr. Improved in every way, MReizinho’s Rocket Launcher Redux is ready to introduce a whole new set of builders to the wonders of Classic Space. See more here.

Hipster Rocket

Hipster Fixie Bike

Captions are too mainstream

A while ago we posted Silvavasil’s Fixie Bike in a rare move away from our usual V8-powered fodder. He’s now returned with an updated version, which is sure to confuse the hell out of the hipsters that liked the first version so much. You see, the new bike has a thumping great rocket motor attached (very un-hipster), but… it sure isn’t mainstream.
