Gymkhana

Lego Ken Block Gymkhana Mustang

Ask a 12 year old who the best racing driver ever is and they might very well say ‘Ken Block’. He’s not of course – in fact he seems to simply crash a lot – but what he has done is tap into the power of YouTube magnificently.

Block’s ‘Gymkhana’ series has become one of the most watched things on the internet, and has attracted big sponsorship as a result. Ford provide Ken with his current wheels, but unusually his most recent video didn’t use something from their current range. At least on the surface. Instead Ken built the world’s first (probably) all-wheel-drive first generation Mustang, which he used to tear up the streets of LA in spectacular style.

It’s a car ripe for reproducing in Lego form, and Technic legend (and the first builder in our ‘Pro’ series) Sariel has done just that. Powered by two RC LEGO Buggy Motors, with working headlights and independent suspension, his Technic Ford Mustang looks as cool as Ken’s real deal. And it works. You can see all the photos on MOCpages, but before you do, make sure you watch the amazing video below…

Yellow Car!

Yellow Porsche15201528773_485c64624c

Normally finding two quality vehicles would leave The Lego Car Blog Elves happily munching away on Smarties. In this case it would be yellow ones, because they’re the best kind. Unfortunately the Elves have also just discovered the rules to the Yellow Car Game, causing the biggest Elf-Fight that Mr. Airhorn has ever had to quell.

LatLug member Rolands Ķirpis has created a beautiful Porsche, very much in the style of the great Malte Dorowski. The car – previously blogged here – features a nicely detailed interior and can be seen in the company of an excellent Model Team style breakdown truck by clicking this link to the Latvian Lego Users Group Photostream.

The second excuse for one Elf to hit another was provided by Joe Perez (Mortal Swordsman). Working on a commission for the UK’s Lego professionals, Bright Bricks, Joe has built a ’69 Mustang. The car has opening doors and bonnet, with an engine underneath. The build is all the more impressive, as the subject was chosen by readers of Auto Trader magazine and Joe chose his supply of Lego pieces before he knew what the car was to be. There are more cars to follow in this series, so it’s worth clicking the link to Joe’s MOCpages account or his Flickr Photostream to see what happens.

We here at TLCB are suckers for classic cars and gorgeous construction alike, so put the two of them together and we’re sold. This first-gen Mustang by VKTechnic comes complete with opening trunk, hood, and doors, and has RC and functioning suspension as well! And naturally, the gorgeous outdoor photography doesn’t hurt the paintjob either.  You can check out this beauty and more of VKTechnic’s work over on Flickr.

Lego City Mustang

Flickr’s Kosmas Santosa returns to TLCB with this superb classic Ford Mustang. Any mini-figure should be delighted with this as its ride. Curiously though, the one in the picture isn’t. Anyway, we like it, and thus it’s featured here. See more at the link.

Winged Horse

Lego P51 Mustang

The Lego Car Blog becomes The Lego Plane Blog momentarily as we feature a Mustang without a Ford badge; an ace P-51D Mustang fighter by MOCpages’ Henrik Jensen. The P-51 was built for the Allies as high altitude fighter by North American Aviation and – once fitted with Rolls Royce’s Merlin engine – it became a formidable machine throughout the Second World War. Henrik’s mini-figure scale version is based upon a surviving P-51D now in private hands that saw service with the US Air Force, Swedish Air Force, and finally the Dominican Republic Airforce all the way until the 1980s. You can read more about the plane and see more images of Henrik’s model on MOCpages here.

Lego Ford mustang and Horse Box

Peteris Sprogis shows us that a tow car doesn’t have to be a boring saloon or SUV with a caravan behind it. His horses get pulled by one of their own, a superbly striped 1967 Ford Mustang GT500. Easy on the gas pedal Peteris…

A Super Car

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500It’s a supercar double today here at The Lego Car Blog. And this one is really super. Built by Technic legend Sheepo, this Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 is the pinnacle of what can be achieved from LEGO bricks technically. The well-known Lego blogs are often not interested in the technical realism of Lego models. Here though, whilst we may not feature an expertly landscaped castle, we do love to see what Lego can be used to do technically. With Sheepo’s talent and engineering prowess it can be used to do a lot.

This astonishing Shelby Mustang GT500 features the usual Technic supercar requirements (steering, suspension, engine and gearbox) and adds remote control drive via LEGO’s versatile Power Functions system. But Sheepo doesn’t stop there. Not only does his Mustang drive and steer remotely, it features a remotely operated sequential 5+R gearbox with an automatically triggered clutch, and remotely operated disc brakes that can also be engaged from a working pedal in the cabin. If it was any more realistic this car would be for sale in a Ford dealership.

See all of the photos and join in the discussion on Eurobricks, and you can check out the full technical specifications and builder commentary of the GT500 on Sheepo’s website here.

P-51 Mustang

Lego P-51 MustangThis glorious North American P-51 Mustang was discovered by one of our Elves today on Flickr. The work of mrutek, A TLCB veteran, it’s a model that clearly shows the advantages of LEGO’s newer smooth curved pieces, which allow the Mustang’s famous fuselage and wing shape to be re-formed from our favourite plastic blocks without losing their stunning fluidity. Check out all the photos of this beautiful Second World War fighter on Flickr here.

Gone in 60 Seconds

Ford Mustang GT500 'Eleanor' LegoA retired car thief and his crew are required to steal 50 cars in one night to pay a debt. A thin plot for sure, but within it are some very good car chases, lots of mad Nic Cage acting, Angelina Jolie, and this; the Mustang GT500 ‘Eleanor’. Ralph Savelsberg rebuilds the movie legend, complete with Memphis Raines figure, on Flickr, which the Elves successfully ‘boosted’ and brought to TLCB office for us to share. Check it out at Ralph’s photostream while they lay low.

More Classic Muscle

More Classic Muscle

You can describe this 1967 Ford Mustang in one word: wow. With great parts usage and an accurate design D DiTorrice recreates this classic muscle car perfectly – and as he owns a real ’67 Ford Mustang you’d expect so! A deserved a blog post.

The real thing

The real thing: raphy’s Mustang

According to his Flickr comments raphy said that this looked better in his mind than it turned out in bricks.  We don’t know what Raphy, clearly one of the best TFOL Lego car builders around, had in his mind when building this Mustang, but we think the result is superb.  It even convinced The Lego Car Blog Towers that he should earn our ‘Featured TFOL’ accolade.

Check out the awesome work of Raphy on Flickr.

Featured TFOL: Cars Lover

Cars Lover

Automotive awesomeness by Cars Lover

When the great Firas Abu-Jaber admits a Lamborghini Gallardo is better than his own the TLCB Elves get still pointier ears than they already have. A 16-year old builder named Cars Lover, a German TFOL and newcomer on MOCpages, has built some awesome sports cars lately. As Firas puts it: “You have a GREAT future in building lego cars, so keep on that.”

So check out what Cars Lover has done so far on MOCpages.

Mustang GT500 Super Snake

Shelby Super Snake

If there’s a more American car in existence we’re yet to find it. Named after a wild horse, a poisonous snake, the number of horsepower it originally had, and a man, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake is a bit of a mouthful. But a damn tasty mouthful. Senator Chincilla is the chef behind it.

Alan Mann Mustang

Alan Mann Racing Mustang

Austin Nomorinfo, who’s featured here before with his wonderful muscle cars, has built this glorious Alan Mann Racing Ford Mustang. It’s been made to fit alongside another previous Lego Car Blog entry; MortalSwordsman’s Alan Mann Fiat Transporter. Presumably there’s another two cars to come…
