Lego Audi R8 V10

Audi recently revealed their new R8 supercar at the Geneva Motor Show, and in typical Audi fashion it looks almost exactly the same as the current one. Which incidentally looks very much like this.

It’s the latest build from Technic genius Sariel, who’s gone all Model-Teamy on the outside this time, and yet he’s managed to keep the remarkable Technic engineering for which he’s known intact underneath.

Sariel’s bright orange R8 features remote control drive, steering, a four-speed gearbox, independent suspension, LED lights, damped-opening doors, and of course, the huge Lamborghini-sourced V10 engine (which almost fits too).

Lego Predator Supercar

Ex-LEGO set designer, published author, and generally nice chap Nathanael Kuipers is back with a bang. This is his latest creation, a V8-engined fully-functioning Technic supercar entitled ‘Predator’. The aforementioned V8 is mid-mounted, with the 5+R gearbox mounted behind it and controlled by linkages to the cabin. There’s also steering, independent double-wishbone suspension and opening gull-wing doors.

Lego Technic Cadillac ATS Supercar

This simply excellent Technic Cadillac ATS appeared online courtesy of friend of TLCB Thirdwigg, who has – whilst normally famed for his construction machinery and a very big plane – decided to join the elite ranks of supercar builders.

His first entry into the Technic Supercar club is a good one; his ATS features everything you’d expect from a large scale Technic car, including all-wheel suspension, working steering, a 6-speed gearbox and – more unusually – three interchangeable engines of different configurations (I4, V6 and V8).

Lego Assassin Supercar Crowkillers

Crowkillers is back!

The Technic master builder’s latest work – entitled ‘Assassin’ – is a mid-engined V10 supercar, with a remote linkage four-speed gearbox, independent suspension, working steering, opening doors and engine cover and, more unusually, the option to come in blue and white with some flashing lights on the roof…

One of the reasons that we originally created The Lego Car Blog and unleashed the Elves on an unsuspecting world, was our belief that quality vehicle builds were being neglected by Lego bloggers. It is therefore with some pride* that we can announce that one of the “proper Lego blogs” beat us to this beautiful Technic sports car by quite a few days.

Jeroen Ottens has skilfully used Technic panels and flex rods to produce a mid-engine machine with a smooth, curved body. He has based the car around the look of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider and included some built-in Italian stripes to emphasise this. The car also has full Power Functions features, including a working gear box. Click this link to Jeroen’s Photostream see more.

Lego technic Land Rover Defender

Today we saw the return of two Elves, both clutching things of much redness. The first red thing turned out to be this, Rabbitdesign‘s superb Technic Land Rover Defender 110, which has one of the most thoroughly engineered chassis we’ve ever seen (a trip to MOCpages via the link above is highly recommended to see how he’s done it).

Coincidentally this year will be the Defender’s last. Emissions and safety laws have finally caught up with the 1940s design, signalling an end to more than 60 years of continual production.

Lego German Tug Aircraft

Elf No.2’s red thing was discovered on Flickr. It’s a German target tug by Sydag, used for towing things into the sky to be shot at, and it’s a wonderfully smooth build. There’s more to see at the link above.

Lego Lexus LFA

This Lexus-LFA-like Technic supercar was suggested to us by a reader. As with many recent creations this model includes LEGO’s Power Functions parts to provide remote control drive and steering, plus it adds a working V8, 4-speed gearbox with auto-clutch, and all-wheel-drive to an impressive list of functions. MOCpages’ Rage Hobbit is the builder, and you can see all the photos, including detailed chassis images, via the link above.

Lego Supercar

We don’t often publish fictional cars here at TLCB, because most of them are…er, let’s just say ‘inadequate’. This one though, suggested to us via the Feedback page, is rather nice. It’s the work of Davanchi M and it features a variety of details including opening doors and a clamshell engine cover. But not steering, Davanchi’s faked that. Make it work for real next time please Davanchi! Anyway, you can see more of his ‘Apollo Legacy’ supercar on MOCpages via the link above.

Lego Ferrari Testarossa

Before Ferrari became a marketer of expensive yet pointless merchandise* they made cars. Cars like this one, the glorious 1980s’ Testarossa. Featuring the firm’s last flat (boxer) engine the Testarossa produced just under 400 bhp from its twelve cylinders, and almost 10,000 were made during an extensive 12 year production run.

This brilliant Lego replica is the work of TLCB debutant Lennart C, and he’s employed some rather unique building techniques to recreate the ’80s icon. You can see all the photos of Lennart’s Ferrari on Flickr at the link above.

Firas Abu Jaber Creations!

Our usual articles here at TLCB publicise only new creations. Today though we take a trip back in time to look at the creations of one of the all time greatest Lego vehicle builders, someone who has featured not only on the top Lego websites, but also the likes of Top Gear and Jalopnik. He is of course, the amazing Firas Abu Jaber. In our second ‘Top 5’  list our collaborators Head Turnerz suggest their five favourite Firas creations. Over to the the Head Turnerz crew…

Much of the online Lego community know of the legendary Firas Abu Jaber, and most will have a favourite or two of his creations. Here at Head Turnerz we have teamed up with The Lego Car Blog to give you another HT x TLCB Top 5, this time to showcase the very best of what Firas built over several incredible years.

Lego Mitsubishi Evo

No.5

In fifth place is, without doubt, the best recreation of the iconic Mitsubishi Evolution X that you’ll ever find made from LEGO. We remember when we first saw Firas’ creation posted on the MOCpages home page – and we nearly fell off our chairs. With 15 stud wide body work and ingeniously recreated disc brakes Firas’ Evo is jam-packed with details, making it not just one of the best Evos, but one of the best Lego cars ever made.

What sort of Top 5 of the best Firas cars would this be without one of his famous Lamborghinis? Coming in at number four is this stunning Lamborghini Gallardo SE built way back in January 2009. The body shaping is – as with every Firas build – perfect, and with the freakishly great eye for detail that he has, this Lego Lamborghini does not let the famous marque down.

Lego Knight Rider KITT

K.I.T.T could possibly be the most well known T.V/movie car of all time and Firas did not disappoint when he ‘dropped’ this one, again back in 2009. Firas’ model features everything the real ‘82 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am K.I.T.T had, including the infamous scan-bar. Of course, everything opens, including removable T-tops to complete the convertible roof!

The Pagani Zonda C12 S is one of the most beautiful Italian cars ever made, Firas somewhat cheesily describing it as “just like a beautiful girl”. We can see what he means though, and his Model Team version is just as eye-catching. The curves, his unique building techniques, and those remarkable headlights – it’s how a Lego car should be built. Firas even constructed his Zonda so that all the ‘elements’ were detachable – see how he did it at the link.

No.1

Taking the top spot in our Top 5 Firas Abu Jaber creations list is none other than his incredible Ford GT – possibly the greatest Model Team car ever made, and the most popular car in the history of MOCpages. Some may disagree with our previous choices, but we think we that all will agree that this is the car that cemented Firas’ reputation as the best Lego vehicle builder of his time. A legend if you will. This GT was so realistic it was even featured on the official Top Gear website! It’s the perfect MOC.

Some of you reading this may not have had the privilege to see first hand Firas’ builds show up on your ‘most recent’ listing on MOCpages, but to have witnessed it at the time was an absolute honour. Firas was and still is the true G.O.A.T of Lego car building. We think we speak for all when we say we hope to see him make a return some day…

Lego McLaren MP4-12C

Swiftly replaced by the 650S, the MP4-12C is probably the least sexily named car ever made (Soviet and Chinese cars excepted of course), but it has brought an exciting new player onto the Italian-dominated supercar pitch. There’s a lot more to come from McLaren over the coming years too, and all of it will be based on the MP4’s remarkable carbon-fibre tub and 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 engine, meaning the MP4-12C will leave quite a legacy.

Lego Technic Supercar FSO Polonez

We found this model too late for Halloween, but it would have been a perfect Frankenstein’s monster for the festival of all things horrible!

Many vehicle manufacturers have sold off their old designs to be re-built (badly) by state-run abominations within oppressive totalitarian regimes. Mitsubishi, Renault, Rover and – most prolifically of all – Fiat, have all seen their retired cars re-borne overseas. Lada, Yugo, Zastava, and FSO amongst others all owe their engineering to Fiat, and they all had one thing in common. They were complete sh*…

Fortunately the people of Poland are now unshackled from both the tyranny of communism and the FSO Polonez they had little option but to drive. The FSO company didn’t last long in the free world after the fall of the Soviet Union, and the factory closed down in the early ’00s.

The FSO Polonez is therefore quite a strange choice for a Lego Technic ‘Supercar’, but that’s just what newcomer Krzysztof Cytacki has chosen to recreate, and in doing so he’s built one of the finest and most accurate Supercars we’ve ever seen.

Underneath the stylish bodywork there’s a perfectly replicated engine, gearbox, interior, steering and suspension system, plus opening doors, hood and hatchback, working windscreen wipers and LED lights. It really is one of the best Technic Supercars ever built.

Tridder Rotary Supreme

MOCpages based builder Turbo Charger has a big portfolio of virtual supercars, including some fantasy six-wheelers but he has switched to real bricks for his “Rotary Supreme”. It’s a well known fact that The Lego Car Blog Elves don’t like virtual creations, preferring something that they can really get their teeth into. We’re a bit worried that they might be addicted to the taste of LEGO, especially those chewy Technic flexible axles.

Although the Tridder “Rotary Supreme” is mainly of conventional construction, the careful use of curved bricks has created a car that to quote Blaine R., “Looks like it’s going 200 miles an hour sitting still.” and has a super car meets spaceship quality to it. Our Elves have been very successful over the past few days, which is great news for them (some are even looking quite plump), but it has meant much busyness for us. As such we’re going to round off this period of frequent blogging with one of the nicest Technic Supercars that we’ve ever seen; Jorge Garcia’s amazing Ferrari F40.

Lego Technic Ferrari F40 SupercarThis beautiful supercar by the previous TLCB bloggee is a truly exceptional replica of the late ’80s Ferrari. Underneath the exquisitely recreated bodywork sits a working engine and gearbox, and a full remote control drive system.

It’s the perfect finale to our millionaire-week, and you can see all the incredible details of Jorge’s recreation of one of the all time great supercars on both Brickshelf and MOCpages.

We rarely like fictional cars here at TLCB, and we like even less of them built digitally. This is because most seem to suffer from the same afflictions that blight the endless real-world supercar start-ups from ambitious but naive millionaires; They’ll all do 300mph and have a million horsepower. Except of course that they won’t. Because they’re crap.

However today we came across one that we do actually rather like, because it’s not, well… crap. Teen Fan Of Lego Sir.Manperson / Sam the First is the designer and he makes his TLCB debut with his digitally rendered ‘Prowler’. It’s one fictional car that we’d like to see built! Buy some bricks Sam…
