Dodgy Camping

Yoga-practicing, vegan-dieting, top-knot-wearing bus / camper life douchebags are everywhere. Well, as long as everywhere has good WiFi, so they can upload their latest ‘adventure’ to their followers. Urgh.

We try to avoid such content of course, but so too would we steer clear of the owner of this battered ’70s Dodge B100 van and Shasta trailer. Decidedly un-Instagram friendly, we suspect its inhabitant’s diet would be more road-kill than ethnic-peace-crisps, and healing crystals would be swapped for actual, um… actual crystal.

Which leads neatly on to today’s second dodgy camper, a Dodge-based ’77 Winnebago that’s almost guaranteed to be a meth lab. An update to his previously blogged ‘Minnie Winnie’, 1saac W. is the builder of both recreational vehicles, and you can head to the abandoned parking lot on the edge of town to check them out via the link above.

This unusual looking vehicle is a classic Chevrolet C30 pick-up, outfitted with a camper top, a dually rear axle (with LEGO’s weirdest wheels), suicide rear doors, and dropped to a completely impractical height. There’s also complete cabin and camper interior, an inline-6 Cummins engine, and an enormous amount of openings, including cabin doors, camper rear door, hood, and even fridge. It’s nearly Black Friday, that magical time of year when consumers banish any thoughts of Thanksgiving to fight in the streets over discounted electronics, and when we want to escape to the wilderness in a camper van and stand on the top with a shot gun.

Cue previous bloggee damianPLE / damjan97PL, whose excellent fully remote controlled RV is fuelling our escapist desire.

Perfectly blending Technic and System construction, Damian’s ‘Mini Camper Van’ packs a whole heap of visual detail and Control+ drive and steering into a model under 10cm wide.

Minnie Winnie

Fancy a very small camping trip? Prolific bloggee 1saac W. has just the thing. This beautiful Dodge-based 1977 Winnebago ‘Minnie Winnie’ measures just five studs wide (four at the cab), and yet looks every inch millimetre as immediately identifiable as models ten times the size! A clever awning, brick-built ‘W’ motif, ingenious rubber-band based detailing, and some properly clever parts orientation make this one of the best small-scale creations we’ve seen yet, and you can join us on a tiny little vacation at 1saac’s photostream via the link above.

It’s been over a decade since Breaking Bad (AKA The Best Thing That’s Ever Been on TV Ever) concluded, yet the seminal show is still inspiring Lego builds. Cue Nick Kleinfelder and this wonderful recreation of the infamous 1986 Fleetwood Bounder RV methlab that starred throughout out the series.

Complete with mini-figure Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, Nick’s cooked up a model of incredible detail, using a complex formula of ingenious building techniques. You can see how Nick’s done it at his photostream, and you can jump to the New Mexico desert via the link above.

Little Haulers

After a few car-less days we have a trio of vehicular creations to showcase today. None are cars mind…

Still, they are excellent, hence their appearance here, and each proves you don’t need a million pieces or to know The Brothers Brick secret handshake to see your creation blogged.

First up is a vehicle from way back at the very beginning of the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, Brian’s Ford F-150 Lightning, complete with ‘The Racers Edge’ decals and a bed full of rather easily stolen car parts. Previous bloggee IBrickItUp is the builder and you can drive to Toretto’s to order a ‘tuna on white with no crust‘ via the link above.

Today’s second small-scale vehicle comes from Justus M., whose classic RV is quite magnificently beige. It also features some simply ingenious suspension, deploying your Mom’s recently blogged ‘golden handcuff’ pieces to brilliant effect. You can see how Justus has done it via the link to his photostream above, where you can also find a video of the springy ‘cuffs in action.

Today’s third and final creation is two really, with Thomas Gion‘s ace 1969 Dodge A100 van and BBQ smoker trailer in tow. As Thomas also goes by the moniker ‘HotDogSandwiches’ it’s a rather appropriate pairing, and you can grab a bun and tuck in to a perfectly smoked sausage via the link in the text above.

After yesterday’s MAN 8×8 expedition truck, today we have a bonus build. Casually added into the Eurobricks topic alongside the MAN, collaborative builders MTC also published this brilliant-looking Mercedes-Benz Unimog outfitted for off-road adventuring. A complete Technic chassis is topped with an excellent Model Team body, consisting of a four-door cab and an integrated RV unit, and there’s more to see alongside the previously-blogged MAN 8×8 on Eurobricks. MAN on a Mission

If this TLCB Writer received paid holiday (no chance! Ed.), he’d like to go adventuring in something like this.

Built by collaborative building channel MTC, this MAN 8×8 off-road expedition truck includes everything you could need to escape to a place far away.

Two XL Motors power all eight fully suspended wheels, a Servo powers the steering, a Medium Motor drives a lift for a motorcycle/ATV platform mounted under the rear of the fully-equipped camper section, whilst another drives a compressor that can elevate the camper roof on four pneumatic cylinders.

All of the functions can be controlled via bluetooth courtesy of two SBricks, which you can watch in action via the excellent and appropriately sound-tracked video below, plus there’s more to see of this amazing rig at both Eurobricks and Flickr.

Home is Where You Park(ed) It

Some vehicles are more than the sum of their parts. They’ve transcended their original purpose to become, and stand for, something more. The Volkswagen Camper, the Toyota Prius, and the DeLorean DMC-12 to name a few, but each of those is still, at the end of the day, just a car. A car wrapped up in a million connotations, but a car nonetheless.

Occasionally though, a vehicle transcends its original purpose by actually, well… transcending it. These are rarely the cool cars. They’re the forgotten ones. The vehicles whose job as a vehicle has long been superseded in order to meet the more immediate needs of the owner.

Cue TLCB debutant pan noda, and their simply wonderful ‘RV House’, depicting a dead camper, extended, adapted and remodelled, to become a far better abode than when it was still rolling.

The Walking Dead

In this TLCB Writer’s opinion, it’s only a matter of time before the dead rise up to feast on the squishy bits of the living.

What we’d want in those inevitably approaching times is a shotgun and an RV, so we could a) shoot at reanimated corpses from the safety of the roof, and b) take a crap in comfort.

Dale in ‘The Walking Dead’ had the right idea, well – until he went for a walk in a field and his squishy bits were pulled out, but had he stayed atop his classic Winnebago he’d have been fine.

Jonas Kramm has recreated Dale and his RV pre-zombie dinner, and a dead-good job he’s done too! All details are present and correct including the roll-out awning, radio arial, roof-mounted parasol and deck-chair arrangement, and a mini-figure Dale with shotgun.

Best of all, Jonas has made instructions available so you can recreate it too, meaning at least a mini-figure or two in your collection will be safe from the certain zombie apocalypse that’s coming.

How I Met Your Mother

It’s the late 1970s. Your Dad is on vacation with his mates at the lake, and he’s just been rumbled watching the girl from the Winnebago in plot 44 getting changed. She knew exactly what she was doing though, starting the chain of events that led to a drunken night out, shotgun marriage, and you. Followed by years of regret, but hey, that’s not the Winnebago’s fault.

Lego Unimog Motorhome

We really don’t get the appeal of caravanning here at TLCB. You drive very slowly to a boring field and then you have to crap in a box.

This looks a much better bet. Bobofrutx‘ Unimog motorhome might still be slow, and you probably still have to crap in a box, but with a vehicle like this you could travel seriously off-piste. Check it out on Flickr at the link above.

Lego The Walking Dead RV

The world’s second favourite television RV has featured here at TLCB before, and now Flickr’s Ralph Savelsberg (aka Mad Physicist) has taken Dale’s RV from the hit AMC series The Walking Dead to a new level. This flawless recreation the classic Winnebago includes a complete interior, authentic blood splatter, a shotgun-armed Dale, and – of course – a hungry zombie. Lego Mad Max RV Truck

This gloriously nuts Mad Max-esque RV/Truck/Armoured Car, entitled ‘Clan’s Moving House’, was discovered by a delighted TLCB Elf on Flickr today. It’s been built by Luis Baixinho and it looks like the perfect vehicle to make it through any one of the variety of apocalyptic events that the weird guy on the outskirts of town hoarding canned food and ammunition thinks is imminent.
