SNOTty Skoda

Lego Skoda Truck

We love everything that Flickr’s Karwik builds, and this beautiful Škoda 706 RTTN with Orličan N7CH refrigerated trailer is no different.

Despite our seeming boundless automotive knowledge (yeah right!) we weren’t actually aware that Skoda ever built articulated truck tractors. Apparently they produced such trucks until the early noughties, at which point they were probably competing with parent company Volkswagen’s own MAN truck brand a little too closely, and production was quietly ended.

Karwik’s Lego version of the classic Skoda 706 features some of the best SNOT (Studs Not On Top) techniques we’ve ever seen; our highlights include the genius truck grill and wonderful trailer lettering. In fact the whole trailer – which is built completely SNOT – is a work of Lego art. See how Karwik has done it on Flickr via the link above.

Polish Star

Lego Star Car Transporter

Flickr’s Karwik is a regular here at The Lego Car Blog, with over a dozen of his beautiful Town vehicles featured here since our inception. Today he adds no less than six more creations to his blog-count with this simply wonderful Star C-28 Car Transporter complete with Polski-Fiat load.

Five Polski-Fiat 125ps feature, with three sedans, one station wagon and even a pick-up loaded onto the ZBNS D-91 trailer. All variants were, er… rubbish, but that doesn’t stop them looking spectacular in Lego form with Karwik’s huge attention to detail evident on each one.

We highly recommend a visit to Karwik’s photostream to see more of the Star C-28 truck, ZBNS trailer, and its Fiat 125p load. You can also view all of Karwik’s other incredible blogged creations by typing his name into the search box at the foot of this page (or at the top right for those viewing on mobile devices). Now, time for us to give a very lucky Elf  six Smarties (and possibly diabetes).

Lego 7347 Alternative

The Elves are a happy bunch today. Several of them are riding around the office in the back of this chunky red truck courtesy of Flickr’s Peter deYeule, whilst several more do the pushing. It’ll probably end in a horrific Elf accident, but it’s fun while it lasts. Peter’s truck is made exclusively from the pieces found in the 7347 Creator set (reviewed here two years ago) and is one of the nicest ‘alternatives’ we’ve seen yet. You can see more at the link, and if you’ve got a 7347 too give some ‘alternativing’ a go and let us know the results!

A Tower Of…

Lego Volvo FH12 Truck

Silos are a common sight on any farm, used to store and dispense grain, animal feed, and er, …poo. One of the ‘net’s best Technic builders has taken the unusual step of building both a silo and the mechanism for erecting it from Lego Technic.

Sariel‘s Volvo FH12 truck and  Silo placing trailer were discovered by one of our Elves on MOCpages, where Sariel details his build and includes a video demonstrating the placing mechanism in action. See more at the link above.

Town Trucks Special

Lego DHL Truck

We’re not quite sure how many Elves we have (they are extremely difficult to count), but we think it’s in the high twenties, depending on how many have been lost on any given week to dogs, the office printer, or their own vigilante justice system.

However many it is, we were very surprised to be greeted this morning by no less than five of them waiting relatively patiently in TLCB office, each holding a find. The surprise continued when we discovered that every one of their five finds was blog-worthy, and all were from the same builder. As we’re feeling generous they’ve each been awarded a meal token and Smartie and thus we have five great models to show you today!

Lego Long-Nose Truck

They come from Steffen Kasteleiner (or Buff83ST as he is known on Flickr), who has recently uploaded a whole range of beautifully classic-looking Town style trucks, like this brilliant long-nose semi above.

Lego -U-Haul Truck

Whilst his trucks are only at the large end of Town-scale – being around 7 studs wide – Steffen has included expert detailing, like the opening doors, functioning steering and the lovely brick-built logos you can see on this classic U-Haul truck.

Lego John Deer Tractor

Steffen’s work isn’t limited to trucks either, as he’s turned his hand to tractors such as this John Deere, and also to aircraft, with some superb planes available to view at either his MOCpages or Flickr accounts.

We highly recommend a visit to Steffen’s pages to see more of the models shown here, as well as his previously uploaded trucks, planes, and pick-ups; click on either of the links in the text above to see all of his work!

Trophy Truck

Lego RC Trophy Truck

Another day, another Elf, another meal token issued. Today’s lucky recipient found this superb remote control Trophy Truck on Eurobricks. Underneath the Technic bodywork sits some wonderfully bouncy suspension attached to a faithful RWD set-up, and it’s powered by LEGO’s out-of-production buggy motors that give it a surprising turn of speed. gsia17 is the builder, and you can see all the photos plus a great video of the truck in action at the link.

Skippy

Lego Skip Lorry

This neat looking ERF skip lorry, or ‘container truck’ if you’re from The LEGO Group, was discovered on Flickr. Built by Makorol it features full remote control drive and a host of other working functions. You can check out all the photos via Flickr here, watch Makorol explain all in his excellent video below, and you can read our review of LEGO’s own 42024 container tr… sorry skip lorry set by clicking here.

Winged Horse II

Lego Pegaso Truck

Following yesterday’s Winged Horse we round off the weekend with another, this gorgeous classic Pegaso truck by Flickr’s Cabecin. Pegaso, named after the mythical Greek flying horse Pegasus, were a Spanish manufacturer of civilian and military trucks between the mid ’40s and mid ’90s. In 1990 the Pegaso company was bought by Iveco, who quietly closed the name down in 1994. Cabecin’s 1950s classic might be the only Pegaso truck to be built this year, and you can see more of it and his other works on Flickr via the link above.

Gorhound

Lego Search and Rescue TruckThis strange beast is apparently a Vunssen & Groebe ‘Gorhound’ Class Search and Rescue truck. Built to recover crews shot down in enemy territories it’s the work of previous bloggee iomedes !…. on Flickr. As we don’t really know what we’re talking about when it comes to sci-fi we’ll end the model description there, although to us it does look very cool in its (unintentional) Repsol Racing paint-job. You can see more of the Gorhound on Flickr via the above link.

Oshkosh

Lego Oshkosh HEMTT

Over to Briskshelf for something big. This monstrous Oshkosh HEMTT military truck features 8 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering, independent suspension and nine(!) Power Functions motors. It’s been built by marthart and you can see all the images via the accompanying Brickshelf gallery – just click on the link above.

Blue Number Two

Lego MA3-503B

Today is the first time ever that we’ve publicised two models by the same builder back to back. The reason is obvious; they’re both completely brilliant. Flickr’s Karwik is the builder in question and his second model of the week is another curious Soviet truck, a MA3-503B (clearly communism had no place for a marketing department when it came to product naming). The real truck is another slightly rubbish Russian oddity, but in LEGO form, especially in this rare light blue colour, it’s one of the most charming models of 2014. You can see all the photos of the MA3-503B on Flickr via the link above, along with Karwik’s other wonderful Town vehicles.

Nothing Rhymes with Orange

Lego Skoda Truck

Today’s post comes from TLCB regular Karwik, who returns with another stunning Town-scale truck. This time it’s an unusual Skoda 706, a truck that was made for nearly 30 years in Eastern Europe. Kawrik’s superb attention to detail abounds on this model, and you can see more high quality images via his photostream here.

Power Up

Lego Power Functions Crane

It’s the opening weekend of the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship in Melbourne, and the Elves are riotously excited. So what’s this Technic crane truck by Eurobricks’ Razor got to do with F1? Well, it’s the first race weekend under the new regulations with new engines, new hybrid systems, new cooling, new exhausts and new downforce. All of this means new reliability problems, and therefore we expect to see quite a few F1 cars being parked during the race.

The Melbourne track is largely on public roads, so crane trucks such as this one are vital in removing broken cars from the side of the track to safety. Razor’s Technic version is powered by nine(!) Power Functions motors, with three battery boxes and four sets of lights. To see it in action and join the discussion head over to the Eurobricks forum via the link above.

Back to our tenuous F1 link; you might see more of crane trucks like this than the Renault-powered cars at Melbourne this weekend… We can’t wait!

A Mammoth MOC

Lego DAF XF Mammoet

This enormous DAF XF truck with six-axle Noteboom trailer is the work of previous bloggee Nako Klein Paste aka nkle on Flickr. The build features an opening and tilting cab, steering axles and a realistic load of Liebherr mobile crane counter-weights. See all the photos at nkle’s photostream via the link above.

Six Pack

Lego Trucks

Following on from Dennis Bosman‘s incredible Kenworth Wrecker and his Master MOCer interview published yesterday, the Elves are feeling quite trucky; one of them arrived back at The Lego Car Blog Towers this morning with no less than six amazing trucks!

So, six meal tokens for the lucky Elf? Er, no. You see we’ve featured several of these trucks here at TLCB before, but builder Andrea Lattanzio (aka Norton74) has recently posted all six of his current creations together in one awesome six pack group shot. We tried to think of other good things that come in sixes but ran out after beer, eggs and iced buns.

See all six of his brilliant ’80s and ’90s European trucks by clicking the links to MOCpages and Flickr in the text above.
