C is for Christmas

Lego Nimbus Type C Motorcycle

We’re back, and we hope you’re all having a throughly excellent Christmas! We’re kicking off that slightly awkward period between Christmas and New Year with this, Henrik Jensen‘s gorgeous classic Nimbus Type C motorcycle.

Producing from 1919 until 1960, Nimbus were a successful Danish motorbike manufacturer, providing bikes to the military, civil and public markets. This beautiful 1950s Type C is one of the last Nimbuses made, and Henrik’s Model Team recreation is one of the finest Lego bikes we’ve found this year.

You can check out all the images of the Type C at Henrik’s photostream – click the link above to take a look.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta – Picture Special

Lego Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

Ryan Link of MOCpages has appeared here at TLCB a few times over the years, and his latest creation continues his ascension into the very top ranks of the community’s vehicle builders. This is a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and it is – as you can see – a beautiful piece of design. It’s also complicated. Really complicated. Yet somehow (using witchcraft and magic we suspect) Ryan has replicated the F12’s fiendishly difficult bodywork brilliantly in Lego form. And the doors, hood and rear hatch still open.

Lego Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

Ryan has deployed a cunning variety of superb building techniques, blended together seamlessly, to create his Maranello masterpiece, and the engine bay and interior are just as well crafted as the outside. There’s an extensive gallery of images is available to view – click here to make the jump to MOCpages for the Ferrari F12’s full build details.

Christmas Carrera

Lego Porsche 911 Carrera

Porsche 911’s – despite their tricky shape – are not an unusual build in the Lego Community. However the base Carrera is, as builders tend to favour the more exotic and expensive versions in the 911 range. Which is a shame, as we actually like the basic Carrera best. Handily for us TLCB regular Senator Chinchilla has built one just in time for Christmas, and you can see more as his photostream via the link above.

Big Country

Lego Ford Country Wagon

Flickr’s Luke C appeared here earlier in the week with a lovely small-scale 1960s Ford Country station wagon, and now he’s built a Model Team version! You could call it A Big Country

Right, enough tenuous linking to obscure ’80s Scottish rock bands, on to the model. Measuring over twice as wide as his small-scale version, Luke’s Big Country (Dammit! Ed.) is packed with detail, and includes opening doors, hood and tailgate plus working steering.

It’s also one of the coolest-looking cars that we’ve seen in ages, and it’s made even better with a roof-rack mounted surfboard. There’s lots more to see at Luke’s photostream – click Luke’s name above to visit a Big Country (we’ll stop now before our editor fires us).

Deadliest Delta

Lego Lancia Delta S4

This is a Lancia Delta S4, and even by 1980s Group B WRC standards it’s a terrifically ugly thing. Ugly, but astonishingly effective. With all-wheel-drive powered by a mid-mounted 1.8 litre engine with both turbo and super charging (the first ever example of twin-charging), the space-framed and composite-shelled Delta S4 could produce as much as 500bhp.

If that sounds like a dangerous combination you’d be right, and tragically Henri Toivonen and his co-driver were incinerated when their S4 left the road in 1986. Group B was immediately banned, and with it the maddest of all the World Rally Cars ended its motorsport career.

Senator Chinchilla hasn’t forgotten the Italian monster though, and has ensured the Delta S4 lives on in Lego form with his exquisite Model Team replica. See more on Flickr.

DAF Double*

Lego DAF N2800 and GINAF F530 10X4

This stunning pair of huge Model Team style classic DAF trucks comes from TLCB regular and DAF specialist Arian Janssens. His two latest builds up the detail level once again, and make Arian one of the best Lego truck builders anywhere in the world right now.

Lego GINAF F530 10X4 truck

On the right, and shown with the load bed raised to its highest point above, is Arian’s GINAF F530 10X4 tipper truck. *Not strictly a DAF, GINAF were a Dutch truck specialist that used DAF trucks as the basis for their conversion to heavy duty applications. In business since the late 1940s, GINAF produced around 250 specialist trucks a year. However modern economics mean manufacturing in such low numbers is no longer enough to survive, and GINAF filed for bankruptcy in 2011.

Lego DAF 2800 Truck

The second truck in Arian’s pairing is this superb classic DAF 2800 in an unusual-for-Europe long-nose specification. Like GINAF, DAF have experienced some difficult trading times, and filed for bankruptcy in the early 1990s following the collapse of their merger with British Leyland. A management buyout restarted the firm and in 1996 DAF were bought by the American giant PACCAR, who then also bought Leyland, re-merging the two firms once more. DAF trucks are now commonplace across Europe, but few modern DAFs look as interesting as this classic 2800 does.

You can see more of each build at Arian’s Flickr photostream – click the link above to make the jump.

’48 Ford

Lego Ford F1

This is a 1948 Ford F1, and we know that racing cars were a bit agricultural back then but this is ridiculous.

It’s not really anything to do with the highest tier of motorsport of course, rather it’s the predecessor to America’s best selling truck, the Ford F150. This neat Model Team version has been built by Lego-building legend Firas Abu-Jaber, and unusually for a static display piece it features a few working functions too, including steering, opening doors and hood, and a dropping tailgate.

There’s more to see of Firas’ latest build at his photostream, and you can check out his interview here at The Lego Car Blog by clicking these words.

Ferrari Enzo – Picture Special

Lego Ferrari Enzo

It’s time for one of your suggestions. This stunning Ferrari Enzo comes from previous bloggee Ryan Link of MOCpages, and it is – as you can see – a beautifully accurate recreation of one of Ferrari’s greatest hits.

Featuring a detailed engine and interior, plus opening butterfly doors and engine lid, Ryan’s model used some mind-bindingly intricate techniques to achieve the famous shape. See how he’s done it via the link to his MOCpage above!

Moving Floors

Lego DAF FTG CF 460 Broeders Transport

Arian Janssens is becoming a regular here at The Lego Car Blog with his superb DAF haulage trucks. This is his latest, a CF 460 in Broeders Transport livery, carrying what we think are concrete floor sections. There’s more to see of Arian’s brilliantly detailed DAF at his photostream – click here to check it out.

Porsche 911 SC – Picture Special

Lego Porsche 911 SC

This lovely canary yellow 1980 Porsche 911 SC (Super Carrera) built by Jon Elliott was suggested to us by a reader today. Underneath the wonderfully lifelike bodywork – complete with opening doors, hood and engine lid – there are a few surprising (and very un-Model Team) technical touches too.

Working steering, rear suspension and a boxer piston engine are included, all hiding seamlessly inside the accurate body shell. There are lots more images to see at Jon’s Flickr photostream and MOCpages account – click the links to check out the full 911 SC gallery.

Mercedes-Benz Actros Heavy Haul – Picture Special

Lego Mercedes-Benz Actros

Featuring two Mercedes-Benz Actros 8×4 trucks, a Nooteboom steered-trailer and a Volkswagen Transporter, this heavy haulage team is very probably the most impressive multi-model build of the year.

The complete set has been designed and built by the immensely talented Jaap Technic, and each vehicle is one of the most astonishingly well detailed Lego creations that we’ve ever published.

Lego Mercedes-Benz Actros

Each Mercedes-Benz Actros truck includes a fully detailed cab inside and out, with the interior reached through opening doors and the V8 engine accessed via a tilting cabin.

Twin XL Motors power the trucks’ driven wheels whilst a Servo Motor turns the front two steering axels of each tractor unit, plus there are working LED lights front and rear, all controlled by a third-party SBrick bluetooth-compatible receiver.

The Volkswagen Transporter convoy support van isn’t left out either, with a trick Brickstuff sourced working light-bar and custom decals throughout.

Jaap has photographed the complete haulage team beautifully and we highly recommend taking a look. Click here to see the full gallery on Flickr and here to read further details of the build and join the discussion on Eurobricks.

Mystery Box

Lego DAF Army Truck

This Model Team style DAF army truck by Flickr’s Arian Janssens is a superbly built creation, packed with detail and abounding in clever techniques… but all we can focus on is that big green Box of Mystery chained to the trailer. What’s inside? Pirate gold? Proof of alien life? Hilary Clinton’s email server? See if you can work it out at Arian’s photostream – click the link above to investigate.

Sunday Speeder

Lego Star Wars Rey's Speeder

This near perfect scale replica of Rey’s Speeder from ‘Star Wars – The Force Awakens’, built by Robert Lundmark of Flickr, is not our usual fodder here at TLCB – but despite our ineptitude with anything sci-fi related we are completely enchanted with it.

Measuring almost half meter long and packed with exquisite detail, Robert’s creation is an absolutely beautiful model, and if you like it as much as we do you can help it to become an official LEGO set by voting for it on the LEGO ideas platform. Click the link above to see more of the build and show your support.

R60 Return

Lego BMW R60 Motorbike

This gorgeous BMW R60 motorcycle by Maxime Cheng has appeared here at TLCB before, but so beautiful is this latest image that we thought it worth a reappearance. Maxime’s photograph shows exactly how a Lego creation should be captured, and also what we look for here at TLCB in order to be able to blog a model. If you’d like to see your creation appear here (or on any of the major Lego blogs), presentation is everything. We’ve compiled some handy hints on how to take photos as good as Maxime’s in our ‘Photo Like a Pro’ tutorial. Click here to read the tips and tricks, and you can see more of Maxime’s stunning BMW R60 shown above by clicking the first link in this text.

Red Bed

Lego Ford Hot Rod 1932

Now that’s an engine. Visibility may be slightly compromised though. No matter, this ridiculous Ford ’32 hot rod pick-up by Flickr’s Tim Inman is unlikely to be going round many corners. See more at the link above.
