We know the square root of jack about spaceships. But we do quite like the colour blue, and that seems like as good a reason as any to post these lovely spacecraft. Above is Nick Trotta‘s ‘Atomium’, whilst below is David Alexander Smith’s classic space ‘Three-Man Planet Scout’, available on both Flickr and MOCpages.
The Snail
Taking inspiration from nature’s gypsy, Flickr’s LimitlessBricks can take his home wherever he goes. Probably quite slowly. There’s more to see of his marvellous creation at the link above.
Chequer Plate
Chequers in Lego always seem to look the business. And never more so than when in space. We’re not sure why this is, but we don’t make the rules. The Elves found two spacey creations employing chequers this week, and both look, well – the business.
Shannon Sproule‘s survey truck (above) and David Roberts‘ GARC race team (below) both tread the black and yellow chequer plate route and you can see more of both wonderfully inventive creations on Flickr at the links above.
The Last of the LR Defenders
Land Rover’s brilliant Defender dies next year, after more than 50 years of continual production. In celebration of this amazing vehicle MOCpage’s Nick Barrett has recreated the iconic off-roader in its final 2015 specification. His long-wheelbase 110 Station Wagon includes the four-cylinder turbo-diesel powering the last generation of cars, opening doors, hood and tailgate, plus folding seats working steering and working suspension. There’s lots more to see at Nick’s MOCpage – click the link to take a look.
Last of the V8 Interceptors
Max is Mad. His ride – the last of the V8 Interceptors – has been requisitioned by Immortan Joe, and he is not happy. It’s also been fitted with a few optional extras that probably weren’t in Ford’s official catalogue. This glorious shot comes from TLCB regular _Tiler. Click the link. You have to. There are flames.
Fly Me to the Moon
Built for TLCB Summer Building Competition, Flickr’s Davanchi M. has entered his own fictional ‘Apollo’ supercar. Nice detailing abounds and you can see more at the link above.
Ice Man
Kimi Raikkonen is one of the sport’s more… er, unusual characters, but there’s no doubting his racing talent. Back when Ferrari were the team to beat he took the F2007 to the World Championship, earning his sole title. Nathaniel L has rebuilt Kimi’s winning Ferrari and published it to Flickr with stunning photography. See all the beautiful photos via the link above.
A Quick Drink
The 24 Heures de Mans has finally been won by someone other than Audi. Porsche, in their second Le Mans since returning last year, claimed an amazing outright victory in 2015. Of course, Audi still kind of won as the two brands are effectively the same company – following VW’s recent take-over to continue their plans for world domination – but it was nice nevertheless.
Back when Porsche were an independent auto-maker though, they were even more successful, largely thanks to this – the awesome 917. This particular car, raced by Martini Racing and driven by Helmut Marko and Gijs Van Lennep, won Le Mans outright in 1971.
The Lego recreation shown here is the work of prolific race-car builder Greg 998, and it includes a wonderfully detailed chassis, cockpit and engine, as well as the brilliant custom-decalled exterior pictured above. You can see more of the 917 and Greg’s other racing cars on MOCpages at the link above.
Post-Apoca GT
Well this is ridiculous. And just what the Elves look for in their perfect vehicle. Ford’s new GT supercar hasn’t even been launched yet, but previous bloggee Alexander Paschoaletto has already given it the Mad Max / Death Race post-apoc treatment. There’s a bull-dozer bucket up front, cannons on the roof, and a rather scary looking Elf to the side.
Join in the carnage on Flickr here, and if you’d like to enter TLCB Summer Building Competition yourself you can check out the rules, prizes and task to complete by clicking here.
Coffee Guzzler
This pretty Moto Guzzi cafe racer comes from Flickr’s Senpai Ragnarok, who made his TLCB debut last week with another lovely Technic bike. His latest uses similar techniques to recreate the cafe racer flat-tank style, and includes a V-Twin engine, rear suspension and woking steering. Join Senpai for a drink at the link above.
Feeling Elvish
Entries for TLCB Summer Building Competition keep on rolling in! Here are two more of our favourites that arrived this week.
First up (above) is Sam the First (aka Sir. Manperson)’s digital ‘Prowler’. We don’t often feature digital creations here, and Sam immediately put himself at a disadvantage in the competition by choosing to build in virtual reality. But Sam must really want the awesome prizes up for grabs and has gone all out to tick as many boxes on the Elves’ wishlist as possible. Bright colour? Check. Racing stripes? Check. Violence potential? Big check. He’s even added a pair of Elves to the build to score himself some bonus points. You can see more of Sam’s entry on Flickr at the link above.
The second creation in today’s post comes from fellow Flickr builder and previous bloggee Calvin Sun. Calvin’s ‘Elves of Hazard’ model also ticks many of the Elves’ boxes, being brightly coloured, big engined and also featuring a rather suave-looking Elf (they really don’t look that good in reality). You can see more of Calvin’s competition entry on Flickr at the link above.
Prizes to be Won!
There are still several weeks to go in the competition, which closes on August 31st 2015. No-one has yet scored full marks, and we’re yet to see a Power Functions RC vehicle capable of Elf smushery entered – a remote control monster truck with racing stripes and an Elf at the wheel would stand a very good chance indeed.
All entries will be judged by TLCB Staff at the end of the competition and the winner will receive two of the brilliant Lego books pictured above from the awesome guys over at No Starch Press, plus the runner-up will also get their hands a top Lego publication too.
How to Enter
You can enter your creation for TLCB Summer Building competition in a number of ways, either here at TLCB, or via our partners on Flickr; LUGnuts and Headturnerz, where each has a discussion thread in which you can post your entry. Good luck!
Raging Bull
It seems like just the other day that we posted an incredible creation from car building legend and TLCB Master MOCer Firas Abu-Jaber. And that’s because it was. But he’s been busy, and just a few short days later this arrived at TLCB Towers courtesy of an excited TLCB Elf.
It’s Lamborghini’s 2014 Veneno coupe, following on from Firas’ own roadster roadster version publicised here earlier in the year, and it is – as you can see – quite spectacular. There’s more to see at Firas’ MOCpages and Flickr accounts, plus you can read his Lego story via the Interviews tab in the main menu.
Shady Character
We’re not sure what’s going on in this image by Flickr’s Sir Nadroj, but it sure looks suspicious. You can see of his beautifully original, and slightly dark, vintage car scene at the link above.
Ford GT – Picture Special
We have no clever title and there are few words in this post to describe TLCB Master MOCer Firas Abu-Jaber’s astonishing Ford GT replica. Because all you need to do it look at it.
And click here of course. It’s the car of the summer so far. See more on Flickr via the link, and you can read our interview with the builder by clicking the link below the first image.
A Lesson in Photoshop
This is how you do it. The brilliantly named Tim Schwalfenberg (aka One More Brick) gives us a masterclass in Photoshop with his three micro-scale freighters heading for their warp-gates. Jump through at the link above.
