Scuderia Ferrari – Picture Special

We may only be four months into the year, but we’re pretty sure we’ve found our favourite creation of 2017 already…

This breathtakingly beautiful scene comes from Michel Van den Heuvel aka Start Bricking on Flickr, and it is -of course – Scuderia Ferrari’s 1950s workshop, recreated wonderfully in mini-figure scale.

Inside Michel has taken care of every detail, from tools to trophies, rubber to race cars, nothing is missing, and it’s all been thoughtfully replicated in miniature from our favourite Danish plastic.

Outside the workshop and underneath some stunning brick-built lettering are a trio of historic Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 racing cars, complete with a superb Fiat team transporter ready to take the cars to their next race.

Michel hasn’t stopped with Formula 1 either, as Ferrari’s legendary endurance racers and sports cars have also been exquisitely recreated in Lego form.

Two for Tuesday

A pair of Elves returned to TLCB Towers today after each found a Ferrari on their unending search for the web’s best Lego creations. Normally this would initiate Elf-on-Elf violence, but because we’re feeling generous, and because both models are absolutely superb, today’s post is a double and thus each can go away happy (fed).

Both creations are the work of Ryan Link, who has an impressive garage of brick-built cars under his belt. These two are his latest, Ferrari’s 599 GTB (red) circa 2006, and their first ever all-wheel-drive car, the 2011 FF (white).

Both cars feature Ferrari’s legendary V12 engine mounted up front, which Ryan has recreated in brick form, along with a pair of fully detailed interiors and beautifully replicated bodywork, complete with opening doors, hood and trunk.

Digital Delight

We receive loads of requests to blog digital creations here at TLCB, and our answer is almost always ‘no’. However this time we’ve bent our usual rule, because this, readers, is how to build a digital creation.

Designed by Alan Guerzoni it’s a Speed Champions scale Ferrari 512 Long-Tail as raced by Ecurie Francorchamps at the 1970 Le Mans 24 Hours.

Not only is Alan’s design brilliantly executed he’s also maximised his use of the digital medium, by adding Ecurie Francorchamps period-correct decals and a printed canopy (as LEGO do themselves) to recreate the 1970 512 as accurately as possible.

Red Head

Ferrari’s flat-12 engined Testarossa was one of the definitive supercars of the 1980s. Named after the red colour of its engine block, it was produced until the early 1990s, when a mild update and a new name kept the platform going until 1996. With almost 10,000 units made, the Testarossa design is one of the most produced Ferraris of all time, and previous bloggee Ryan Link has decided to add one more car to that figure. His Model Team recreation of the icon ’80s supercar captures the Testarossa’s shape brilliantly, and opening doors, hood and engine cover reveal an interior and engine that are just as well detailed as the outside. Lego Livery

The finest brick-built livery ever? If not it’s a sure top three. This brilliant Iveco Scuderia Ferrari transporter from the 2008 F1 season is the work of Ryan Link of Flickr, and it has some of the most intricate brick-work we’ve ever seen. The whole truck opens up too, with a double-deck car ramp, sliding tool storage and a flip-up awning. See more via the link above.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta – Picture Special

Ryan Link of MOCpages has appeared here at TLCB a few times over the years, and his latest creation continues his ascension into the very top ranks of the community’s vehicle builders. This is a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and it is – as you can see – a beautiful piece of design. It’s also complicated. Really complicated. Yet somehow (using witchcraft and magic we suspect) Ryan has replicated the F12’s fiendishly difficult bodywork brilliantly in Lego form. And the doors, hood and rear hatch still open.

Ryan has deployed a cunning variety of superb building techniques, blended together seamlessly, to create his Maranello masterpiece, and the engine bay and interior are just as well crafted as the outside. Ferrari Enzo – Picture Special

It’s time for one of your suggestions. This stunning Ferrari Enzo comes from previous bloggee Ryan Link of MOCpages, and it is – as you can see – a beautifully accurate recreation of one of Ferrari’s greatest hits.

Featuring a detailed engine and interior, plus opening butterfly doors and engine lid, Ryan’s model used some mind-bindingly intricate techniques to achieve the famous shape. See how he’s done it via the link to his MOCpage above!

Flat Pack Ferrari

Nope, Ikea haven’t started selling Italian super cars, these two gorgeous Ferrari mosaics come from Ryan Link of MOCpages, and they are quite astoundingly brilliant.

Unlike many Lego mosaics, where the pieces simply slot together but are unattached to one another (or worse, when someone just runs a photo from the internet through a computer programme), Ryan’s stunning images are completely brick-built and every piece is connected. You can see how it’s been done thanks to a ‘behind the scenes‘ shot, and if anything it’s even more impressive than the images here, with some fiendishly difficult connections.

Ferrari Friday

The Elves have been watching too many ’80s movies again, and thus our recent posts seem to have gone a bit ‘red braces’. Still, no matter, because if the results of their historical television watching are as good as this we’ll happily indulge them.

This is a Ferrari 288 GTO, closely related to (and built alongside) yesterday’s 308 GTS, but with its V8 slightly de-bored (made smaller) and turned longitudinally, to make room for a pair of turbochargers, a pair of intercoolers, and a whole lot more power.

This foray into forced induction delivered some incredible results too, as the 288 GTO was the first production car to reach 300kmh (186mph) – way back in 1984.

This lovely Model Team / Creator style recreation of one of Ferrari’s most legendary models comes from Daniel H of MOCpages, with opening doors, hood and trunk, pop-up headlights (controlled from inside too!), and a detailed interior and engine bay.

Ferrari Fursday*

Time to go old-school. This is Ferrari’s glorious 308 GTS, built between 1975 and 1985, and powered by a mid-mounted V8 producing around 250bhp (unless you were in America, where emission regulations dropped that a bit).

Made famous by the cult TV show Magnum P.I, the 308 is widely regarded as one of the most iconic Ferrari designs of all time. There were some anomalies, including a 2 litre version (which was still – incredibly – a V8) that made a whopping 150bhp, but these aside the 308 is probably the quintessential Ferrari.

Lightly updated to become the 328 in the late ’80s, the 308/328 platform is also one of Ferrari’s most successful models, with nearly 20,000 units produced over three decades. Somebody decided that one more was needed though, and commissioned Flickr’s Jeroen Ottens to recreate the classic Ferrari in Lego form.

It was a wise move too, as Jeroen has absolutely nailed it. Featuring a replica V8 engine mounted to a working 3+R gearbox, four wheel independent suspension, steering (Ackermann with caster), pop-up headlights controlled via the dashboard, adjustable seats and a removable roof, this 308 replica is every bit as good underneath as it looks on top. Ferrari don’t currently make an LMP1 racer, but if they did we hope it would look a little something like this. Beautifully detailed inside and out this fictional Ferrari LMP1 endurance car is the work of BrickMonkey of Flickr, and it was suggested to us by a reader. There’s lots more to see, including some lovely photos revealing the chassis and engine detailing, at BrickMonkey’s photostream.

This dinky Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole comes from TLCB regular Angka Utama, and whilst it may only be eight studs wide it’s packed full of details worthy of models four times the size. There’s more to see of Angka’s tiny prancing horse on Flickr and MOCpages – click the links to saddle up.

The Killer Years – Historic F1 Picture Special

Every so often we receive a suggestion here at TLCB that makes the whole office stop what it’s doing (which today seemed to mostly be Google-imaging attractive Rio Olympics athletes) to gaze in wonder at the creation/s found. This was definitely one of those moments.

These incredible Model Team classic Formula 1 replicas have all been built by newcomer Idihnab Szalab from Hungary, and he’s uploaded all four to MOCpages in one go. Each is an exquisitely detailed creation that perfectly captures one of the Formula 1’s most famous and iconic cars in Lego form.

From top to bottom Idihnab has built; the dominant 1972-75 Lotus-Ford 72D in John Player Special livery, Ferrari’s 1989 640, the double World Championship-winning 1986-87 Williams-Honda FW11, and lastly the beautiful Lotus-Ford 72C from 1970-71 in magnificent Gold Leaf livery.

Formula 1 – po-faced, over regulated, and completely devoid of originality – needs a kick in the ass. TLCB debutant Gamabomb may have the answer. Or maybe not, but it’s fun to imagine! This is his ‘Ferrari SF48-0’ built for the Mecha Racing League, and it’s a wonderfully pointless thing. More like this please interwebs! Check it out on Flickr at the link above.
