Your Mom sent us a picture of her landing strip ages ago but we can’t post that here, so instead here’s a lovely desert airstrip diorama from Flickr’s Sylon-tw.
Not only are Sylon’s plane and chasing roadster works of Lego art, the strip itself is a really smart bit of building – we particularly like the tyre marks from repeated touch-downs. It’s a build well worth viewing – click the link above to fly over to Flickr and make a landing.
This absolutely stunning ’32 Ford Roadster hot rod was discovered by one of our Elves on Flickr. It’s been built by previous bloggee Andrea Lattanzio aka Norton74, and it’s quite incredibly beautiful.
Based on a ’32 Ford Model-B body and fitted with a flathead V8, Andrea’s creation is typical of the early hot rods of Bonneville racing. He’s also included a photo of the car in his wonderful previously featured workshop, complete with superbly recreated (although slightly more modern) tools and garage equipment.

We might not be generous in any way to TLCB Elves, but we are to you guys. Overlooking a slight time-zone discrepancy, Flickr’s Chrisbuilds has snuck into TLCB Summer Building Competition at the last second. Well, when we say ‘snuck’, as much as is possible with a bright yellow ’32 Ford Deuce hot rod and a ’55 Chevy Coupe.
Both cars are stars from the iconic 1973 movie ‘American Graffiti’ and Chris has replicated them superbly in smooth Model Team style. You can see more of both his competition entries on Flickr – click the link above to take a trip to ’62.
Flickr’s _Tiler should probably have his own section here at TLCB, so frequently does he appear. With builds like this superb Chevrolet Nova SS, it’s easy to see why – _Tiler has recreated the Chevy’s bodywork beautifully. Today’s second classic Chevy comes from fellow Flickr builder Tim Henderson, who has recreated one of the two mid-’60s G-10 panel vans that he own’s in real life. Cornering doesn’t look like a fun proposition, but we have to admit it looks damn cool! Click the link above for more classic Chevrolet goodness.
Although the proper Lego blogs don’t seem to think much of us here at TLCB, you – our awesome readers – are the reason why we’re here (that, and to raise some money for those who desperately need it), and your entries into TLCB Summer Building Competition have been fantastic!
It’s the final day of the competition and Flickr’s Tim Inman has taken the full two months to get his second entry in; this spectacular Chevrolet Town Sedan hot rod. As has been well documented, the Elves love both the colour orange and hot rods, so we have a happy workforce today.

Following our review of the excellent Manner-Spielzeug Interceptor set from the original 1980s Mad Max movies, we’re back to the 2015 incarnation, with another superb Town-scale recreation from TLCB regular _Tiler. His latest replica is probably the weirdest yet, and you can see more of this and his previous Fury Road vehicles via the link to Flickr above.
Legendary hot rod creator and Hot Wheels design consultant Tom Daniel built some amazing vehicles during his illustrious career. This superb Lego recreation of his iconic hot rod the ‘Beer Wagon’ comes from legendary Lego car creator and LUGNuts curator Lino Martins, and it’s his second entry into TLCB Summer Building Competition.
Featuring a slew of chromed pieces, bright yellow paint and a monster engine Lino’s Beer Wagon has scored a barrel-load of points in the competition. He earned himself a few bonus points too – having read a potted history of Elven illness, Lino captured the moment a few of our Elves discovered the beer in the back of the truck. Things did not end well, and we have a feeling that the office airhorn may be even more effective than usual today.

The Elves are going hungry at the moment, because for the last few days they haven’t found a thing. Luckily for us, you guys have, and so today we have three of your finds. On the left is MOCpages’ Jase G’s ‘Little Bit of Muscle‘, which the Elves would probably like to have found themselves, in the centre is a lovely Town-scale Chevrolet G20 van by a builder known simply as ‘Ben’, and on the right is Yoong Cherng Ee’s awesome looking Nissan Silvia S13 in full time-attack spec.

Regular bloggee Senator Chinchilla is back with another real-world replica. This time it’s a 1967 Ford Fairlane, and it’s a lovely understated and classy build. But that’s not really the Senator’s style, and nor will it earn him many extra points in TLCB Summer Building Competition. But any car can be improved by the liberal addition of a flame paint job!
Like racing stripes, flames are worth at least an extra 50bhp, fact. Which makes the Senator’s updated Fairlane pictured below really quite fast. You can see more of this classic ’67 Ford on Flickr – click the link above to fire up the grill.
These two beautiful hot rods were discovered on Flickr. The first (above) comes from TLCB regular _Tiler, who adds another gorgeously smooth car to his ever expanding garage. The second (below) comes from another regular of this site, piratecox, with his superbly detailed Town scale hot rod pick-up. We’ve seen some excellent entries so far – here are few of our favourites to date that haven’t yet appeared on the blog…
This creation is one of the Elves’ favourites, ticking with the ‘fast’ and ‘violent’ boxes with a big thick marker. Greg Conroy has re-purposed the pieces within the official 42039 Technic set to build a mini-gun toting racing car. It’s sort of Mario Kart meets Formula 1, and that can only be a good thing. Greg has also included a couple of Elves to score some bonus points too. There’s more to see on Brickshelf – click here to check it out.
Next up we have a herd(?) of Mad Max-ish hot rods, with several builders taking this route to the Elves’ hearts. From left to right, _zenn‘s ‘Karma’ hot rod, Filip Gabryel‘s ’57 Chevy tow-truck, and Calvin Sun‘s post-apoc BMW.
Alexander Paschoaletto, UndercoverWookiee and Sir. Manperson have also taken the hot rod route with their entries below.
The top row score highly for violence potential, whilst the bottom row earn some speed points, but with no Elves and few racing stripes included they can certainly be beaten to the prize-winning top spots.
One of TLCB staff picks so far is this very cleverly constructed Pagani Huayra from Flickr’s Yubnub. Whilst it features no Elves or racing stripes, it epitomises ‘Nice Parts Usage’, with hot dogs used in the most interesting way we’ve ever seen. OK, the second most interesting way, but we better not talk about the other one.

You may think the current trend for building smooth, studless creations requires LEGO’s newer smoother pieces, but TLCB favourite _Tiler proves that you get the look whilst going very old-school indeed.
_Tyler’s beautiful hot rod utilises a Fabuland roof (one of LEGO’s weirder past themes) combined with classic Town grey/white tyres, and they look absolutely resplendent here. You can see _Tiler’s latest build on Flickr – click the link above to step back in time.
