Soapbox

Lego Soapbox Racer

This utterly wonderful contraption comes from the brilliant Vince Toulouse of Flickr, and it looks like one of the most dangerous machines that this blog has ever posted, and it’s glorious! The bastard offspring of a soapbox gravity go-kart and a 1920s Grand Prix racer, Vince’s latest work is delightfully unhinged, and it makes use of some of LEGO’s odder parts superbly – including some long-forgotten wheels from Technic’s darker days.

There’s more to see of this beautiful creation at Vince’s photostream – step inside the Salvador Dali painting that is his mind at the link above.

Lego Star War Landspeeder Hot Rod

We’re not really sci-fi people here at The Lego Car Blog, what with us blogging… er, Lego cars. As such George Lucas’ most famous works rarely feature here, despite all his constant meddling with the franchise.

Today though we’ve made an exception, because we do like Classic Space, and we love big engines. It’s not often that the two meet, but when they do the results are bloody brilliant. So much so that we’re even willing to overlook this build’s inherent Star Warsyness. It’s the work of previous bloggee Priovit70, and it’s easily one of the coolest Star Wars Landspeeders that we’ve ever seen. Which isn’t saying much as we haven’t seen many, but it’s also one of the coolest Classic Space creations that we’ve seen too, and that’s saying rather more.

You can check out this hovering hot rod at Priovit’s photostream – click the link above to make the jump.

Lego Technic Crowkillers Supercar

Paul Boratko aka Crowkillers is back at TLCB, thanks to an eagle-eyed reader. This is his latest creation, and you might have noticed that it’s quite a lot smaller than his previous builds. However, somewhat remarkably Paul has still squeezed in a range of Technic Supercar functions, including working steering, opening hood, engine cover and butterfly doors, and a mid-mounted miniature V12 piston engine.

There’s lots more to see via Paul’s MOCpages account, and you can check out our interview with him via the Master MOCers interview page here.

Lego Classic Space Set

TLCB Office had a few too many Jägerbombs last night and thus are feeling a little fragile today. Fortunately the awesome Firas Abu Jaber, a TLCB Master MOCer no less, has stepped in as Guest Blogger to keep the Legoey goodness coming. Over to Firas…

When you see a non-car creation featured on The Lego Car Blog it’s a good sign that it’s something exceptional, and this is certainly the case with billyburg‘s latest creation, the “Lunar Exploration Geological Outpost”. Billy proves to us that a nice MOC with great photography and presentation makes a compelling combination for a high quality Lego creation.

A lot of adults from the eighties and the earlier nineties, including myself, were raised on the love of LEGO space sets, and it’s considered one of the most loved themes of the time. Personally I was a big M-Tron and Space Police fan, so these kind of quality space creations bring back a fond memories of the good old days, especially as this MOC looks big fun to build and even greater fun to play with.

Lucky for us Billy has decided to suggest this MOC as a project on the LEGO Ideas website, so if you’d love to have this as an official set someday make sure to head to the project page here and give it your vote – it’ll need to get 10,000 supporters before LEGO consider making this as an official set.

If you’d like to see more of Billy’s Classic Space masterpieces you can jump to his Flickr photostream by clicking here.

Mercury Rising

Lego 1946 Mercury Sportsman

This beautiful classic ’46 Mercury Sportsman convertible comes from TLCB favourite, Master MOCer, and Flickr legend Ralph Savelsberg aka Mad Physicist. A re-working of a model he built back in 2008, Ralph’s Sportsman has been significantly updated with LEGO’s newer pieces and it reminds us superbly of just how good American cars used to be before they ended up like this.

Lego Mercury Sportsman Convertible

Mercury, created by the Ford Motor Company in the mid 1930s, was killed off during the restructuring of America’s ‘Big Three’ auto manufacturers following the financial crisis in 2011, but by that point its products were little more than appallingly bland re-badged Fords anyway. Mercury’s 1940s offerings were far more interesting – Take a trip back to to 1946 courtesy of Ralph via the link above.

Wremotely Wrangling

Lego Jeep Wrangler RC

Previous bloggee LegoMarat is back with this lovely Jeep Wrangler, and not only does it look spot-on, there’s a full four-wheel-drive remote control drivetrain cunningly buried within it too. There are lots more images to see, including interior and chassis shots, at LegoMarat’s photostream – click the link above to get wrangling.

Yellow Lambow

Lego Lamborghini Gallardo

Few cars look as good in yellow as a Lamborghini. Although if you’re a TLCB Elf all cars are preferable in yellow. But they’re morons. Anyway, this is a Lamborghini and it looks resplendent in its sunshine hue. Lennart C is the builder and you can see more of his Model Team style Gallardo via the link above.

Carry on Camping

Lego VW Camper

LEGO might have launched their own (and thoroughly good) Volkswagen camper, but that doesn’t stop you guys from having a go too. Senator Chinchilla has done just that, and although his VW Transporter camper takes many cues from the licensed 10220 set, he’s able ramp the detail up far beyond that of an official LEGO product. The biggest change is at the front – which is gloriously intricate when compared to the simplicity of LEGO’s – and it looks superb. There’s lots more to see at Senator’s photostream – click the link above to smell the bong-water.

Lego Vespa Scooter

We have a penchant for fast and loud vehicles here at The Lego Car Blog, but we do also like more humble transportation. The motorcycle is the world’s most popular powered vehicle and Italian manufacturer Vespa are one of the most famous and iconic brands in the marketplace. This wonderful replica of their little P200 scooter comes from Lego-building masterminds Avro Brothers, and it could only be more beautiful if there were an attractive Italian girl riding it. There’s more to see on Flickr at the link above, ciao!

Go Wildcats!

Lego Buick Wildcat II

This gorgeous Model Team recreation of Buick’s stunning 1954 Wildcat II concept car was discovered by one of our Elves on MOCpages. Built by Beni Henzen it has one of the most beautiful interiors we’ve seen in a Lego car, plus opening hood, trunk and doors. It also enabled us to Google images of the Kentucky Wildcats cheerleading squad for ‘research’ purposes, so we’re pretty happy here in the office. Click the link above to see more of Beni’s Wildcat, or join us on Google to see Kentucky’s finest…

Lego Scania R500 Truck Menck M154

The ridiculously talented Dennis Bosman has featured here numerous times over the years (and is one of our original Master MOCers), and he’s recently re-visted one of his oldest builds. This incredible recreation of a Menck M154 dragline excavator was built by Dennis over 12 years ago, and it’s now been re-photographed atop his stunning Scania R500 truck complete with Faymonville low-loader trailer.

The beautifully built truck and trailer measure a combined 7ft in length, which gives some indication of just how massive the dragline is. You can see more of the Menck and the incredible details and functionality it contains by clicking this link to Dennis’ photostream, where you can also see the full gallery of his Scania R500 and low loader with a variety of awesome loads.

Duck Dynasty

Lego Donald Duck Car

LEGO’s licensing division has brought a variety of well loved characters to the mini-figure range in recent times. Disney’s cartoon characters are some of the latest, and here Donald Duck shows that ducks are good inside more than just pancakes. Donald and his cartoon wheels were suggested by a reader and you can see more courtesy of LegoJalex on Flickr.

Daffy Truck

Lego DAF FT Truck

Photographing large models well can be tricky. Arian Janssens hasn’t always met TLCB’s image criteria in the past, despite the undeniable excellence of his models, but a recent change to his photography set up means he’s now likely to appear here much more frequently.

The first of his models to benefit is this unusually-coloured DAF FT Space Cab truck, and it’s packed with top quality detailing. You can see all the images via Arian’s Flickr photostream, and if you’d like to learn how to photograph your creations well you can catch up on our ‘How to’ guide by clicking here.

Lemon Shark

Lego Vintage Racer

This brutal-looking vintage racer was discovered by one of our Elves on Flickr. With clever side-exit exhausts, racing decals, and an angry shark mouth it’s a firm favourite here at TLCB Towers. LegoGallifrey is the builder and there’s more to see on Flickr via the link.

Lego Ferrari 348TS

This beautiful 8-wide Ferrari 348 comes from TLCB favourite Angka Utama. Clever building techniques abound and you can see all the details courtesy of Angka’s Flickr phototream or MOCpage – click the links for more.
