Dashing Through the Snow

Lego Technic Snowmobile Remote Control

It’s getting all wintery here at TLCB Towers. This means a) we barely see any daylight, b) our Elves often need defrosting when they return to the office (but that’s OK, they’re elves), and c) we’ll try to direct a bit more of the advertising revenue that your visits generate to those without a roof over their heads this Christmas (so please keep visiting – no pressure!).

It also means that we’d like to go out and buy something really silly like a snowmobile for the four days a year that it snows here. Luckily Eurobricks’ Kevin Moo has just the creation to scratch that itch, with his brilliant fully remote controlled Technic Ski-Doo.

Powered by two L Motors, with Servo steering, and with both front and rear suspension, Kevin’s snowmobile is pretty capable in powder, and it can be controlled via a Bluetooth device thanks to a third-party SBrick receiver too. There’s more of Kevin’s build to see at the Eurobricks discussion forum – click the link above to make the trip.

Light Speed

Lego Tron Light Cycle Sariel

1982’s computer-themed adventure Tron might be something of a cult film now, but its initial release was such a failure that it stopped makers Disney from releasing another live action movie for a decade. We suspect Lego-building legend Sariel will have no such trouble with the release of his latest build; easily the coolest thing from the movie, the Tron Light Cycle.

One of our Elves was absolutely on it today, and thus we’ve got hold of this so early that we have no idea what it does (there’s not even a description from the builder at the time of posting this). However, if his previous works are anything to go by then Sariel’s newest creation will be packed with functionality as well as looking damn cool.

You can see all of the images at Sariel’s Flickr photostream, where we expect full build details will be released shortly.

The Ant Hill Mob

Lego Wacky Races Ant Hill Mob Bullet Proof Bomb

And now here they are! The most daredevil group of daffy drivers to ever whirl their wheels in the Wacky Races, competing for the title of worlds wackiest racer! The cars are approaching the starting line… Right behind is the Ant Hill Mob in their Bullet Proof Bomb!

Lego Wacky Races Bullet Proof Bomb

Redfern1950s is quickly amassing the entire Wacky Races ensemble, with six racers built in the last few weeks! There’s more to see of the Ant Hill Mob’s ‘Bulletproof Bomb’ at Red’s Flickr photostream, and you can check out his five Wacky Racers builds that proceeded this one by clicking here.

Winter is Coming…

Lego Technic Snow Plough Gritting Truck RC

Well, it is if you’re reading this in the Northern hemisphere. Plus we heard your Mom likes a good plough*, so today we’ve got one! Built by Damian Plesniak it’s quite a bit of kit too, and it’s absolutely packed with working functionality.

Fully remote controlled, Damian’s MAN truck includes working drive (via an XL Motor), steering (via a Servo), plough* blade raising/lowering, blade rotation and gritter rotation (powered by a Medium Motor each), plus a tilting cabin, opening doors, a working V6 engine and LED lights.

There’s lots more to see at both Flickr and Eurobricks, where you can also find a video showing all of the functions in action.

No America, it isn’t ‘plow’.

Bricking Beige

Lego Hot Rod

Beige. The least sexy of all the colours. Not here though, were Flickr’s _Tyler has used the depressingly bland hue to brilliant effect. There’s more to see of his beige hot rod at his photostream – click the link above to make the jump.

Convert-A-Car

Lego Wacky Races Convert-A-Car

And now here they are! The most daredevil group of daffy drivers to ever whirl their wheels in the Wacky Races, competing for the title of worlds wackiest racer! The cars are approaching the starting line… there’s ingenious inventor Pat Pending in his Convert-A-Car!

Redfern1950s has added another brilliant Wacky Racer to his portfolio. There’s more to see of Professor Pat Pending’s clever contraption via the link above, and you can check out all of Red’s Wacky Races builds by clicking here.

Mercedes-Benz Actros Heavy Haul – Picture Special

Lego Mercedes-Benz Actros

Featuring two Mercedes-Benz Actros 8×4 trucks, a Nooteboom steered-trailer and a Volkswagen Transporter, this heavy haulage team is very probably the most impressive multi-model build of the year.

The complete set has been designed and built by the immensely talented Jaap Technic, and each vehicle is one of the most astonishingly well detailed Lego creations that we’ve ever published.

Lego Mercedes-Benz Actros

Each Mercedes-Benz Actros truck includes a fully detailed cab inside and out, with the interior reached through opening doors and the V8 engine accessed via a tilting cabin.

Twin XL Motors power the trucks’ driven wheels whilst a Servo Motor turns the front two steering axels of each tractor unit, plus there are working LED lights front and rear, all controlled by a third-party SBrick bluetooth-compatible receiver.

The Volkswagen Transporter convoy support van isn’t left out either, with a trick Brickstuff sourced working light-bar and custom decals throughout.

Jaap has photographed the complete haulage team beautifully and we highly recommend taking a look. Click here to see the full gallery on Flickr and here to read further details of the build and join the discussion on Eurobricks.

Mystery Box

Lego DAF Army Truck

This Model Team style DAF army truck by Flickr’s Arian Janssens is a superbly built creation, packed with detail and abounding in clever techniques… but all we can focus on is that big green Box of Mystery chained to the trailer. What’s inside? Pirate gold? Proof of alien life? Hilary Clinton’s email server? See if you can work it out at Arian’s photostream – click the link above to investigate.

Russian Refuel

Lego ZIL 130 Tanker Truck

Ugly, low, and brown – this ZIL 130 fuel tanker could be any number of our Elven workforce. But like them it is useful, as without ground support vehicles such as these, airforces and airlines would operate for about 5 minutes.

This tidy recreation of the Russian truck comes from previous bloggee Dornbi, and he’s included a wonderful MiG 21 for it to refuel too. Head over to Flickr via the link above to see more.

Sunday Speeder

Lego Star Wars Rey's Speeder

This near perfect scale replica of Rey’s Speeder from ‘Star Wars – The Force Awakens’, built by Robert Lundmark of Flickr, is not our usual fodder here at TLCB – but despite our ineptitude with anything sci-fi related we are completely enchanted with it.

Measuring almost half meter long and packed with exquisite detail, Robert’s creation is an absolutely beautiful model, and if you like it as much as we do you can help it to become an official LEGO set by voting for it on the LEGO ideas platform. Click the link above to see more of the build and show your support.

Smooth Saturday

Lego FIAT Grand Prix Racer

Going smooth requires a fair bit more effort than staying au-natural, but it’s definitely worth it. These two old-timey vehicles from Pixel Junkie and RGB900 show how to do it. There’s more to see of Pixel’s vintage Fiat and RGB’s Morgan inspired 3-wheeler on Flickr – click the links above to get waxed.

Big Beetle

Lego VW Beetle

Certified LEGO Professional Ryan McNaught is a veteran of these pages with his incredible (and massive) commissioned creations. This is his latest, designed and built by a team of three builders and containing almost 24,000 LEGO pieces, Ryan’s Volkswagen Beetle (complete with a brick-built oil leak!) took nearly 100 hours to construct.

The build pays homage not only to Volkswagen’s iconic People’s Car (the most produced car in automotive history with over 21 million made) but also to the official LEGO Volkswagen Beetle set of 2008, a product which paved the way for the hugely successful authorised manufacturer partnerships that LEGO fans are benefitting from today.

There’s more of this spectacularly impressive build to see at Ryan’s Flickr photostream, where you can also find a link to his website and previous works.

R60 Return

Lego BMW R60 Motorbike

This gorgeous BMW R60 motorcycle by Maxime Cheng has appeared here at TLCB before, but so beautiful is this latest image that we thought it worth a reappearance. Maxime’s photograph shows exactly how a Lego creation should be captured, and also what we look for here at TLCB in order to be able to blog a model. If you’d like to see your creation appear here (or on any of the major Lego blogs), presentation is everything. We’ve compiled some handy hints on how to take photos as good as Maxime’s in our ‘Photo Like a Pro’ tutorial. Click here to read the tips and tricks, and you can see more of Maxime’s stunning BMW R60 shown above by clicking the first link in this text.

Rocky Racer

Lego Wacky Races Boulder Mobile

And now here they are! The most daredevil group of daffy drivers to ever whirl their wheels in the Wacky Races, competing for the title of worlds wackiest racer! The cars are approaching the starting line… Next we have the Bouldermobile with the Slag Brothers, Rock & Gravel.

Redfern1950s keeps them coming with another wonderful addition to his ever-expanding Wacky Races line-up. There’s more to see of the Bouldermobile via the link above, and you can check out all of Red’s Wacky Races builds by clicking here.

Red Bed

Lego Ford Hot Rod 1932

Now that’s an engine. Visibility may be slightly compromised though. No matter, this ridiculous Ford ’32 hot rod pick-up by Flickr’s Tim Inman is unlikely to be going round many corners. See more at the link above.
