Guess Who’s Back

Lego Technic Mercedes-Benz Actros 8x4 Truck

Back again. Shineyu’s back. Tell a friend.

It’s seem like only yesterday that Shineyu featured here at TLCB with an incredible Technic truck, and that’s because it was. His newest creation is a stunning Mercedes-Benz Actros 8×4, and like his previous build it’s fully remote controlled. There’s lots more to see at MOCpages and Eurobricks – click the links for all the images.

Tornado

 Lego Tornado IDS Marineflieger

British warplanes have the best names. Names such as Vampire, Hurricane, Typhoon, Lightning, and this, the awesome Panavia Tornado. Still a mainstay of the RAF and Luftwaffe, the Tornado has been in service since the late ’70s with nearly 1,000 produced during a twenty year production run. This outstanding Lego version of the iconic variable-sweep wing multi-role combat aircraft has been built by Flickr’s Kenneth Vaessen, and is resplendent in German Naval strike specification, complete with Kormoran anti-ship missiles. There’s lots more to see at Kenneth’s photostream and it’s well worth your click – Go supersonic via the link above.

Top of the Line

Lego Scania R730 V8 Topline remote control truck

This magnificent Scania R730 V8 Topline comes from TLCB favourite Shineyu of Eurobricks. Brilliantly blending Technic and Model Team style construction, Shineyu’s Scania looks superbly accurate and yet also manages to include good functionality, with remote control drive courtesy of two XL motors and a Medium motor for the steering. There’s more to see at the Eurobricks discussion forum – click the link above to make the jump.

Little Wonders

Lego 1946 Alfa Romeo 6C Freccia d'Oro

You don’t need ten thousand bricks to appear on The Lego Car Blog. Around one hundred is plenty, as proven by Flickr’s Johnni with the lovely 1946 Alfa Romeo 6C Freccia d’ora pictured above, and Robert4168 with his superbly inventive micro-scale ‘Buccaneer’s Dread’ pirate ship. See more of each via the links.

Eleanor’s Topless Friend

Lego Eleanor Ford Mustang

Now that we’ve collected some traffic from the seedier corners of the internet, on with the blog! This stunning pair of 6-wide classic Ford Mustangs comes previous bloggee ER0L of Flickr. On the left in a beautiful white & red colour combination is his lovely mid-’60s convertible, whilst on the right in grey & black is a car made famous by the Gone in Sixty Seconds remake – the custom Shelby GT500 ‘Eleanor’. Both cars are superbly built and you can see more of each at ER0L’s photostream via the link above.

Hero’s Ride

Lego March 731 F1 David Purley

This is a 1970s March 731 Formula 1 car, built by previous bloggee Greg998, and it belonged to one of the greatest racing drivers in history.

David Purley was not a particularly successful racing driver, only racing in eleven Formula 1 races and scoring no points. He did win races and championships in lower formulas during his career before he left motor-racing to become an aerobatics pilot – a sport which tragically took his life when he was aged just 40.

However, it was his actions in the 1973 Dutch Grand Prix during his short stint in Formula 1 that make him one of the sport’s greatest figures. You can see more of Greg’s superb March 731 at the link above, and you can watch David Purley’s incredible bravery during one of Formula 1’s darkest and most shameful moments by clicking here (viewer caution advised).

Busiest Bus

Lego Technic RC Bus

Lego Technic buses are becoming a more common occurrence here at TLCB. It’s easy to understand why, as they are the perfect shape to fit a wide variety of LEGO’s Power Functions components. This one, a Solaris Urbino 12 IV by Porsche96, has taken the lead in the ‘I’ve Got More Motors Than You’ competition with no less than seven.

Powering the drive, steering, a 2-speed gearbox, the opening and closing of the doors, and the bus’s ‘kneel’ system – where the suspension lowers to assist passengers as they step on and off – it’s an great bit of kit. There’s lots more to see, including a video of all the above, at both Brickshelf and Eurobricks.

Evil Twin

Lego Transformers Nemesis Prime

It’s been a while since one of our Elves returned with a Transformers-based creation. Previous bloggee MortalSwordsman helps to break the duck with his wonderful Nemesis Prime (the evil twin of Optimus apparently) transformable truck. Looking formidable in both truck and robot modes Mortal’s latest build employs some ingenious brick-wizardry to enable its slick transformation. See more on Flickr at the link above.

I Know You Got Soul

Lego Kia Soul Rat Rod

Kia had taken their brave pills when they decided to name their new small car the ‘Soul’. Korean cars had a come a long way in the run up to the Soul’s release, but the one thing they were still lacking was the exact thing they were naming their new car after.

Kia got it right though, and their quirky small SUV thing has done rather well. In fact Kia’s entire range is now more than a match for the established Japanese, American and European brands. However, this new found competence had yet to be appreciated by the Lego Community, as a quick search through our Archives here at TLCB revealed that not one Kia had ever appeared here.

Today Flickr’s Tim Inman has righted that oversight, with this; his ‘Overbite’ Kia Soul rat rod. With a roof chop, rusted paintwork and stripy seats, Tim’s Soul ticks all the rat rod boxes, and being based on a modern Korean hatchback somehow makes it all the cooler.

There’s more of Tim’s Soul rat to see on Flickr – click the link above to make the jump.

Route 66

Lego GAZ 66 Truck Trial

This awesome-looking GAZ-66 is the work of newcomer VovaRychkov. Here at TLCB we have a well documented dislike of terrible Soviet vehicles, but we’re getting along with this one rather well. It’s mostly LEGO save for a few choice accessories and it looks the business. There’s more to see at Vova’s Flickr photostream – click the link above to make the jump.

2in1

Lego Dakar Truck

Much like shampoo & conditioner, some things are better when they’re two-in-one. And just like your Mom, Angka Utama’s tidy Dakar rally truck always has something inside it.

Secreted underneath the neat 4-wide truck bodywork is another Dakar racer, and the two vehicles fit together so beautifully you’d never know unless you saw the image below. You can see more of Angka’s truck, buggy, and the ingenious way they combine at both Flickr and MOCpages – click the links for double the action.

And It Was All Yellow

Lego John Deere 75G Excavator

The Lego Car Blog Elves are simple creatures, and they do not like change. Over the past year or so they’ve made excellent progress learning the names of colours, thanks largely to our Smarties-based reward system and its practical application to what they find. Unfortunately though, today this constant was thrown into disarray, leading – of course – to an immensely violent Elf-fight. Sigh.

Now that we’ve cleared up the office we can blog the cause of today’s disruption. This most excellent John Deere 75G mini-excavator is the work of Flickr’s amusingly-named Mathijs Bongers, and it’s brilliantly detailed.

However, as any TLCB Elf will tell you, John Deere tractors are Green. Massey Fergusons are Red, and JCBs are Yellow, but John Deeres are definitely Green. The more observant among you may have noticed that this John Deere is not Green at all, but is resplendent in JCB Yellow, and unfortunately a confused Elf is often a violent Elf.

We’ve now straightened out that this build is a John Deere, a Yellow Smartie has been awarded, and an explanation has been given confirming that not all tractors of one brand have to be the same colour.

While we enjoy the peace that this revelation brings here at TLCB Towers you can check out the details of Mathijs’ superb Model Team John Deere 75G at his photostream – click the link above if you dig it.

Crawlspace

Lego Classic Space Crawler

The title of this post might be from a fairly dreadful horror movie, but the creation it captions is rather excellent. Flickr’s Moko is a previous bloggee and he returns to TLCB with this simple yet delightful Classic Space crawler, complete with individually articulated tracks and a rear-mounted communication dish (this is Classic Space – no ray guns here!). See more at Moko’s photostream via the link above.

Sports Luxury

Lego Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

Mercedes-Benz’s SL63 AMG is a bit brash for our tastes here at TLCB, but it’s got one hell of an engine. The latest iteration of Mercedes’ long-standing range-topper makes over 500bhp from its bi-turbo V8, and it isn’t even the most powerful version available (that honour belongs to the SL65, with a turbocharged V12 making over 600bhp). This excellent Model Team recreation of the mighty Merc comes from previous bloggee Lennart C, and you can see more of his Model Team recreation of the SL63 AMG on Flickr at the link above.

Strength in Numbers

Lego Off-Road Buggies

We have a pair of lucky Elves here at TLCB Towers today, each having found multiple creations in one hit.

Elf no.1 uncovered these excellent little off-road buggies courtesy of Tamotsu Nobusawa on Flickr, of which there’s more to see by clicking here.

Elf no.2 returned home with these lovely Town-style Chinese flatbed trucks from Flickr’s Kosmas Santosa. They’re part of a wider (and brilliant) Chinatown scene, and you can see more of the trucks and their surroundings at Kosmas’ photostream via the link above.
