Enormous Erection

Lego Liebherr LTM 1750 9.1 Northwest Crane

Huib van der Hart, aka LiftingBricks, likes to go big. So big in fact that LEGO don’t make wheels tough enough. His latest creation is this truly enormous Liebherr LTM 1750 9-axle crane and, apart from those wheels, it’s all LEGO. Six Power Functions XL motors power the drive, with another six Servos controlling the nine steering axles.

There’s more to come too, as currently the top half is a static display piece, but soon a further suite of Power Functions motors will bring life to the crane itself. You can see more of this remarkable creation, complete with sponsorship by Kanye West’s daughter*, on Flickr via the link above, and look out for the next stage of this build later in the year.

The Cannonball Run

Lego The Cannonball Run

Illegal street racing was on the big screen long before The Fast and the Furious franchise made it cool. 1981’s ‘The Cannonball Run’ was based on the real illegal street race across America that occurred two years earlier, although we expect the movie took a little bit of artistic license with the story…

If you’ve not seen it yet get yourself over to YouTube, and you can see more of one of the star vehicles from the movie – a Dodge ‘ambulance’ – courtesy of TLCB regular Ralph Savelsberg.

Lego Caterham 7 Set

Carl Greatrix’s incredible replicas of the Caterham Super Seven have featured here at TLCB several times in the last year (here, here, here and here), as we’ve supported the LEGO Ideas campaign to turn his model into an official LEGO set.

Well Carl’s hard work has paid off, as over 10,000 of you got behind the project to take it to the next stage of the review process, and LEGO have just announced that the Caterham Super Seven will become the next official LEGO set created via the Ideas platform.

Lego Ideas

We’re super excited about getting our hands on a Super Seven, and this also means that LEGO can add Caterham to their ever expanding list of official manufacturer sets, alongside Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Volvo.

You can read LEGO’s press release announcing the new Caterham Super Seven set via LEGO Ideas here,  or via the video below, and a super congratulations to Carl from all of us here at TLCB!

Feeling Hoth, Hoth, Hoth

Lego Starwars Rebel Base Hoth

‘Star Wars – The Force Awakens’ was a pretty good effort from Disney, but it lacked one of our favourite Star Wars-y things. No, not Natalie Portman (although it did indeed lack that), but the marvellous ice planet of Hoth. Luckily for us though, Marcus19840420 – who really needs a catchier Flickr name – has collaborated with a few other builders to create this epic mini-figure Hoth Rebel Base.

Lego Star Wars Hoth Rebel Base

There’s A-Wings, X-Wings, and a variety of other Star Wars-y equipment packed into the massive scene, along with a small army of Rebel mini-figures and some neatly realistic lighting. There’s lots more to see of this collaboration at Marcus’ photostream – click the link above to visit a galaxy far far away…

Black Widow

Lego Porsche 936 Black Widow

Greg998 is becoming a regular here at TLCB with his superb classic racing cars. His latest, this brilliant 1976 Martini-Porsche 936 ‘Black Widow’ was suggested to us by a reader, and you can see more of it and his other builds on Flickr.

Surf ‘n Turf

Lego 1948 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible

We thought the Chrysler Town & Country was a horrible American minivan, but it turns out that in 1948 it was something far more interesting. This gorgeous ’48 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible comes from newcomer Velocites, and it features some of the nicest wood and metal work we’ve seen on a Town scale car. There’s more to see at Velocites’ photostream – click the link above to make the jump to ’48.

#23

Lego Rat Rod

This is probably the most beautifully built and photographed hot rod that’ve we’ve blogged to date, even by _Tiler‘s own stunning standards. We want this so much it hurts, but we’ll make do by staring wistfully at it via _Tiler’s photostream – join us on Flickr at the link above.

Cosmic Cargo

Lego Space Truck

Because space trucks need hood ornaments too. Priovit70 is the (possibly slightly unhinged) creator behind this intergalactic Peterbilt, and you can see more at the link to his photostream above.

Master MOCers Returns!

Lego Microphone

We receive thousands of reader questions and comments here at TLCB Towers. Amongst the most frequent, alongside regulars such as “Can I have instructions?” (probably not), “Can you feature my creation?” (not if you ask), “That joke was offensive” (it probably was), and “I can help you to optimise your search engine performance for just a small one-off fee” (go and get a real job), is this one; “When will you bring back the Master MOCers Series?”.

Well good news! After much deliberation, by which we mean a drunken argument down the pub, it has been decided that the Master MOCers Series will return for a second season! We’ll being you more details in due course, and until then you can revisit the builders interviewed in Series 1 by clicking here.

Walk this Way

Lego The Walking Dead RV

The world’s second favourite television RV has featured here at TLCB before, and now Flickr’s Ralph Savelsberg (aka Mad Physicist) has taken Dale’s RV from the hit AMC series The Walking Dead to a new level. This flawless recreation the classic Winnebago includes a complete interior, authentic blood splatter, a shotgun-armed Dale, and – of course – a hungry zombie. There’s lots more to see on Flickr – click here and get ready to run!

Icarus – Picture Special

Lego Technic Icarus Supercar

The Geneva Motor Show has just finished and, as is becoming increasingly common, it was was full of ridiculous supercars with impossible speed and horsepower claims built by companies no-one has heard of. The online Lego community is often much the same with its creations, but every so often a Technic supercar comes along that has the engineering talent to match the bold description by the builder. This is one such car, Madoca 1977‘s incredible ICARUS supercar.

Lego Technic RC Supercar

Powered by four large Technic Power Functions motors, with a Servo motor to steer it and two sets of third-party SBrick’s connected to rechargeable battery boxes, Madoca’s supercar has the performance to match its stunning looks. There’s also four-wheel fully independent suspension, opening doors, hood and engine cover, working front and rear lights, and an adjustable rear spoiler.

Lego Technic Icarus Remote Control Supercar

The ICARUS is one of the most professionally engineered Technic Supercars that we’ve seen in a very long time, and it’s well worth taking a moment to see the depth of skill involved in its creation. There’s a full gallery of images, including details of the chassis and drivetrain, available via the Eurobricks discussion forum – click the link in the text above to join in, and you can watch Madoca’s ICARUS in action via the excellent video below.

Lego Train

We don’t post trains here at TLCB unless they’re particularly lovely. This one by Flickr’s msbbanl is particularly lovely, and you can get a ticket at the link above.

Hommage Homage

Lego Technic BMW Hommage

When Audi aren’t cheating worldwide emission tests they’re busy developing even more boring SUVs with angry aggressive faces to be driven by angry aggressive drivers. BMW on the other hand, whilst once the tool of choice for sunglasses wearing douchebags, seem to getting progressively classier and more adventurous.

This is one of their recent highlights, the totally and completely beautiful 328 Hommage. Well, this isn’t obviously, as it’s made from LEGO, but it is a worthy homage to their, er… Hommage. Built by Flickr’s Jeroen Ottens it features independent suspension, working steering with Ackerman geometry, a 4-speed gearbox with auto function, and a 6-cylinder piston engine.

There’s more to see of Jeroen’s homage to the Hommage at his photostream – click the link above to make the jump.

Lead Sled

Lego Hot Rod

This slick slate-coloured hot rod was suggested to us by a reader. It comes from previous bloggee DrDesignz who has returned with this beautiful and unusually hued Model Team build. There’s more available via Eurobricks – click the link above to make the jump.

Perfect Porsche

Lego Porsche 962C 1988 Group C

No, not that LEGO Porsche, but it’s just as good. This is the latest classic racing car to come from Greg998. and it’s a special one. Porsche’s late ’80s 962C won pretty much everything in sports and endurance racing, including Le Mans in 1986 and 1987.

Greg’s version is one of the three 962Cs entered in the 1988 event, and it features with working steering, suspension, a detailed turbo-charged flat-6 engine, and the 962C’s incredible aero-bodywork – complete with authentic period decals.

There’s lots more to see, including some spectacular chassis imagery, on both MOCpages and Flickr – click the links to see the full gallery.
