Sci-Friday

Lego Star Wars Y-Wing

We’ll freely admit that we’re pretty hopeless with sci-fi here at The Lego Car Blog. Whilst the staff at other blogs were wearing out their Star Wars VHS tape where Princess Leia is in a golden bikini, we were riding bikes and talking to girls. Skills that have provided us with absolutely nothing useful since. So, here are some sci-fi builds, and here goes nothing…

Above, and featuring in a Star Wars movie where some cloaked magicians battle with kitchen strip lights, is mrutek‘s magnificent Y-Wing fighter. Whilst we know nothing about the ship, it is a wonderfully detailed build, and you can see more of it on Flickr via the link.

Below, and looking like one of those weird deep sea Dumbo octopus thingies is F@bz ‘Meteor RMX’, captained by a very funky duo of mini-figure pilots. There’s more to see of F@bz’ creation at his photostream – click the link to make the jump (into hyperspace or something) – whilst we try to get back to cars…

Swirly

Lego Liebherr LH60 Timber

Splosh. [Elven screaming]. Splosh… Hmm… that doesn’t sound good. One weary walk down the corridor here at TLCB Towers later and the source of the disturbance was found. It’s been a while since an Elf brought back a remote control find to wreak havoc, but today old habits were resumed and havoc was indeed being wreaked.

This culprit was at the controls of this, gkurkowski of Brickshelf’s enormous fully functioning Leinherr LH60 timber grab. Despite featuring a beautifully engineered remote control all-wheel drive and steering system, the Liebherr was much too slow to run down and squash any Elves. Luckily for the pilot however, gkurkowski’s LH60 model also includes a remotely controlled rotating superstructure, two-peice pneumatic boom extension and a working grab, and it’s these features it choose to deploy.

Held aloft by its ears, an Elf was being repeatedly dunked in a toilet, in a manner similar to that used by public school bullies. Funny as this may have been, the Elves are not allowed in the TLCB Executive Washroom and Sauna so we had to put a stop to it. The very glum-looking victim is now sitting atop a radiator to dry out, whilst the victor has escaped with a yellow Smartie, and we’re left to have a go with the Liebherr ourselves.

Whilst we do that (for research) you can see loads more of the build, including some interesting work-in-progress shots, on Brickshelf – grab a look via the link above.

Not a Car

Lego Mitsubishi Zero

But it was made by a car manufacturer, and very probably their most famous product too. This is of course a Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter from the Second World War, and it’s been neatly recreated in Lego form by James C of MOCpages. James’ updated build includes a mini-figure pilot, working landing gear, and custom decals, and there’s more to see on MOCpages via the link above.

DeVille-ishly Good

Lego Cadillac DeVille Coupe 1965

Previous bloggee Jonathan Elliott is back, this time with something very big and very grey. This whale-like vehicle is a 1965 Cadillac DeVille Coupe, and it’s very probably the least coupe-ish coupe ever made. Well, apart from this obviously. It’s a nice build though, and you can see more images of Jonathan’s DeVille via the link above.

Flat White

Lego Technic Flatbed Truck RC

This exceptionally neat Technic flatbed truck by Flickr’s Damian Plesniak was discovered by one of our Elves today, and underneath all that neatness is a full remote control Power Functions drivetrain. Luckily Damian’s creation is too slow and cumbersome for the Elves to use it run each other over, so instead (and in rare moment of Elven peace) a hoard of them are riding around the office in the back. It’ll probably end in tears at some point but for now we’ll enjoy the quiet and you can check out all the images of the build via the link to Damian’s Flickr album above.

Bella Moto

Lego Vespa

Is there anything prettier than a girl on a Vespa?* Nope. Not unless you’re the new White House Press Secretary (whereby the prettiest thing ever witnessed is President Donald Trump, period). Previous bloggee ZetoVince may not have built a girl to accompany his Vespa, but his Lego recreation of the iconic Italian scooter is absolutely gorgeous. There’s more to see of this beautiful model on Flickr, where you can also vote for it to become an official LEGO set via LEGO Ideas – click the link above to go for a ride.

*We’ve done the research, see here. And here. And here. Blogging is tough sometimes.

And here.

Semi Prime

Lego Chibi Optimus Prime Transformers

What if Optimus Prime was really, really cute. We’ll he’d look bit something like this, Sam C.‘s diddy ‘Chibi-Prime’. Sam’s tiny Transformer really transforms too, and he joins a few other Chibi-Formers at Sam’s photostream. Click the link above to take a peek.

The mini-figure has the coolest ride in Lego City. Suggested by a reader and built by Sylon-tw there’s more to see on Flickr at the link above.

Trump This

Lego MM1 Teracruzer Missile Carrier

Today is the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States of America, and here at The Lego Car Blog we’re commemorating this milestone event with something old, dangerous, and orange.

Built to scare the Soviets in the late 1950s this is a MM1 Teracruzer eight-wheel-drive missile carrier, complete with a Martin Mace nuclear missile, and despite its murderous (and completely futile) purpose, it’s a magnificent looking thing. It’s as if Thunderbirds were run by a maniacal doom-monger.

Anyhow, whilst we settle in for an afternoon of pointless pickering over the state of U.S. politics you can check out more of this absolutely brilliant mini-figure replica of the Teracruzer courtesy of Brian Williams of Flickr by clicking here, or alternatively you can watch something just as old, dangerous and orange at the inauguration ceremony…

Mean Machine

Lego Wacky Races Mean Machine

And now here they are! The most daredevil group of daffy drivers to ever whirl their wheels in the Wacky Races. Competing for the title of World’s Wackiest Racer!… Sneaking along last is that Mean Machine with those double dealing do-badders Dick Dastardly and his sidekick, Muttley. And even now they’re up to some dirty trick!

Redfern1950s has completed his brilliant line-up of Wacky Races racers, with – fittingly in last place – the Mean Machine piloted by Dick Dastardly and his canine co-driver. You can see more of this wonderful cartoon contraption via the link above, and you can see the complete starting grid of Wacky Races builds that have featured here at TLCB by clicking here!

Unim-odd

Lego Technic Mercedes-Benz Unimog U90 4x4

Just like your Mom, the Mercedes-Benz Unimog U90 is a bit… er, aesthetically challenged, but it likes to get dirty. With portal axles, four-wheel-drive and huge travel suspension the 1992 U90 series Unimog was about as capable an off-road vehicle as you could conceive, and it could be fitted with an enormous array of attachments and tools to suit almost any job. The strange off-centre hood was in fact designed to allow the driver to better see any tools attached to the front from the driver’s seat.

This neat Technic recreation of the asymmetrical ‘mog comes from previous bloggee Thirdwigg, and it’s just as odd on the outside and clever underneath as the real U90. Remote control drive and steering, four-wheel-drive via portal axles, live axle suspension, a 4-cylinder piston engine and a three-way tipper bed all feature, and you can see all of that lot plus a video of the model in action via Flickr, Brickshelf and Eurobricks.

Kenworth Kaizen

Lego Kenworth K100 Wrecker

Kaizen. The philosophy of continual small improvements first pioneered in Japan by Toyota, is now a worldwide business practice. And thanks to the inherent characteristics of the LEGO brick, it’s a process that builders can apply too.

First featured on this site way back in 2013, Dennis Bosman (aka LegoTrucks) has recently updated his stunning Kenowrth K100 wrecker with a myriad of small improvements.

Lego Kenworth K100 Wrecker

From grey to chrome, standard to dark green, and studs to smooth, LEGO’s continual product development has allowed Dennis to take advantage of an expanding variety of bricks to refresh his beautiful Model Team Kenworth wrecker.

There’s more to see on Flickr, and you can check out our interview with Dennis as part of the Master MOCers series by clicking here.

Batman Drives a Chevy

Lego Chevrolet Batmobile

With mini-figure Batman getting his very own movie, a very cool new Batmobile was required. 60.2 litres of 20,000bhp V100 (plus flaming rocket booster) ought to do it, and Chevrolet decided that this ridiculous contraption needed to be built for real. Well, sort of. Sadly a 60.2 litre V100 engine is yet to exist, so Chevy decided to do the next best thing and build a life-size version of the Lego Batmobile… in Lego.

Lego 70905 Life Size Batmobile

344,000 bricks and 2,000 hours later, and this is the result. Measuring over nine feet wide and at seventeen feet long Batman’s new ride features X-Ray vision (for seeing criminals up to no good, honest), a Scarecrow gas detector, whatever that is, and – thankfully for the other motorists of Gotham – a parallel park mode which swivels all four wheel by 90 degrees to allow bump-free parking. Oh, and 4G Wi-Fi.

If you have $48million to spare you can order your own via the Chevrolet website – click here to buy yours!*

A Motorcycle Built for Two

Lego Technic BMW R60 Sidecar

Maxime Cheng‘s beautiful classic BMW R60 motorcycle has appeared here before (twice in fact), and it’s now been joined by an equally stunning sidecar. Easily one of the finest Lego motorbikes we’ve ever found it’s a build that’s definitely worth a closer look.

Maxime is hoping the design will become an official LEGO set via the LEGO Ideas platform, and with BMW now an official partner of LEGO with the launch of the new Technic 42063 BMW R 1200 Adventure set we think this is highly possible. You can check out all of the brilliant images and add your vote on LEGO Ideas via the link above.

Little Lego Lamborghini

Lego Lamborghini Countach

ZetoVince‘s little Lamborgini may only be seven studs wide, but it’s unmistakably a Countach. It helps that Lamborghini’s insane ’70s supercar has such a distinctive shape, but it takes quite a bit of skill to recreate it in small-scale Lego building. Zeto definitely has that skill, and you can see more his miniature masterpiece on Flickr via the link above.
