Israeli Air

Lego F-4E Kurnass Phantom

Israel is a force to be reckoned with in the Middle East, thanks largely to some serious U.S-provided hardware. Still, with Russia having provided most of Israel’s neighbours, on which it is not on good terms, with their own tools of death it’s turned out well for everyone… oh wait, no that’s not right.

Anyway, on to this particular instrument of U.S meddling, the glorious McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantom (re-named ‘Kurnass’ for the Israeli Air Force), which the state used up until their switch to F-16s in 2004. This perfect Lego recreation of the famous fighter comes from TLCB regular and Brothers Bricker Ralph Savelsberg, and you can see all the images at his photostream here.

Cat’s Claw – Picture Special

Lego Technic Caterpillar 390F

TLCB favourite shineyu is back, and for his latest build he’s built big. This spectacular creation is a fully working replica of the Caterpillar 390F, and it’s absolutely packed with stunning engineering.

Inside the lifelike bodywork are a range of Power Functions motors and infrared receivers that allow the complete remote control of all of the Caterpillar’s functions.

Lego Technic Remote Control Caterpillar 390F

These include independent drive to each track with skid-steering, a motorised turntable enabling the rotation of the superstructure, and a powered on-board compressor.

Able to generate its own air pressure shineyu’s Caterpillar uses LEGO’s pneumatic system to control the boom arm’s elevation and extension, as well as the movement of the grab/claw-type thingumy mounted on the end (if you know what this is actually called let us know in the comments!).

Lego Technic Remote Control Caterpillar 390F

With four small pneumatic cylinders the claw is powerful enough to lift a variety of fruits (lemon pictured above), or – if you’re a TLCB Elf – grab your head really very tightly indeed and then drop you in the food recycling bin. It was strictly in the name of research…

Anyway, whilst we explore the multitude of ways in which this incredible creation can be put to use terrorising our slovenly workforce you can check out all of the top-quality images via the discussion on the Eurobricks forum – click here to join in.

Road to Bonneville

Lego Pontiac Bonneville 1965

America is just about emerging from the automotive wastelands it’s been occupying since the late 1970s. Sadly though, Pontiac didn’t survive its stay in the wilderness, dying alongside such names as Saturn, Oldsmobile, and Eagle. But Ralph Savelsberg hasn’t forgotten Pontiac. His recently updated and totally beautiful 1965 Bonneville reminds us of a time when the American car wasn’t a fat joke, and ‘Aztek‘ only referred to an ancient civilisation in South America. You can see more of his glorious tribute to old-school Americana on Flickr – click here to take a trip to ’65.

Lego Fire Trucks

We’re in the mood for terrible title puns today… Anyway, these three classic fire trucks from Flickr’s Galaktek aren’t terrible at all. In fact we think they’re rather lovely, and they perfectly juggle play value with realism. There’s lots more to see of each via Galaktek’s photostream  – click the link above to dial 911.

Mini Rover

Lego Micro-scale Rover

No, not a Rover Mini, but a mini rover. As is often the way with sci-fi we’re padding out this description to hide our incompetence with the subject matter, but if you’re into spacey things more than we are then you can check out Rod Gillies’ wonderfully neat micro-scale rover via his photostream here.

Deuce Coupe

The Lego Car Blog Elves like yellow. And they also like hot rods. TLCB regular _Tiler scores a home run then, with his brilliant American Graffiti Deuce Coupe, complete with banana rear fenders! See more on Flickr.

Bugatti Chiron – Exclusive Picture Special

Lego Bugatti Chiron Firas Abu-Jaber

Bugatti’s long-awaited successor to Veyron hypercar was probably the star of a packed 2016 Geneva Motorshow. Costing almost $2million the new Bugatti Chiron is set to be the fastest and most expensive car in the world. And it’s also gorgeous, which is perhaps something the Veyron could never be called.

No sooner had the new Chiron been revealed under the spotlights in Geneva than supercar-building legend Firas Abu-Jaber started work on an incredible LEGO version. Two weeks later his Chrion replica is complete, and we have the very first pictures exclusively to share here.

The Chiron’s full gallery of images will be available to view on the 18th March 2016 via Firas’ Flickr and MOCpages accounts, and until then you can remind yourself of some of his greatest hits, and his Master MOCer interview via the links above.

A special thanks to Firas Abu-Jaber for these exclusive images of his new Bugatti Chiron, and we’ll see you on his Flickr and MOCpages galleries for the full reveal on the 18th!

Blues Bus

Lego Technic RC Bus

Newcomer Hallbricks is making his TLCB debut today with this neat generic bus. Underneath all those blue Technic liftarms is a full Power Functions remote control drivetrain, with two L motors powering the rear wheels and a Servo controlling the steering, electrically opening doors, and a rear-mounted V6 piston engine.

You can read all of the build’s details in the Eurobricks discussion forum via the link above, plus you can see the bus in action courtesy of the video below.

Lego Vic Viper

…Or something. As regular readers of this site will know, space is not one of our limited strong points, so we won’t try to describe this ‘Vespine Vic Viper’ by Flick’s billyburg. What we will say is it has a smiling Classic Spaceman at the controls and we like that very much. Swoosh over to billyburg’s photostream to see more.

Raftin’ Rubicon

Lego Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

After several impressively huge and complicated creations we’re going back to basics today with this, Johnni‘s very neat Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, complete with a rigid-inflatable-boat on the roof. Despite its simplicity nice detailing is in abundance, plus it’s yellow – and the Elves like yellow. See more on Flickr via the link above.

Support-a-Porsche

Lego Porsche 911 GT3

With LEGO recently announcing the success of Carl Greatrix’s Caterham Seven Ideas project we’re feeling confident about the prospect of Malte Dorowski’s Porsche 911 GT3 RS reaching the 10,000 supporter mark that enables an official LEGO review. Malte recently released an updated version of his beautiful 911 replica and you can see more of the build – and vote for it to become an official LEGO set – by visiting his Flickr photostream here.

Enormous Erection

Lego Liebherr LTM 1750 9.1 Northwest Crane

Huib van der Hart, aka LiftingBricks, likes to go big. So big in fact that LEGO don’t make wheels tough enough. His latest creation is this truly enormous Liebherr LTM 1750 9-axle crane and, apart from those wheels, it’s all LEGO. Six Power Functions XL motors power the drive, with another six Servos controlling the nine steering axles.

There’s more to come too, as currently the top half is a static display piece, but soon a further suite of Power Functions motors will bring life to the crane itself. You can see more of this remarkable creation, complete with sponsorship by Kanye West’s daughter*, on Flickr via the link above, and look out for the next stage of this build later in the year.

The Cannonball Run

Lego The Cannonball Run

Illegal street racing was on the big screen long before The Fast and the Furious franchise made it cool. 1981’s ‘The Cannonball Run’ was based on the real illegal street race across America that occurred two years earlier, although we expect the movie took a little bit of artistic license with the story…

If you’ve not seen it yet get yourself over to YouTube, and you can see more of one of the star vehicles from the movie – a Dodge ‘ambulance’ – courtesy of TLCB regular Ralph Savelsberg.

Lego Caterham 7 Set

Carl Greatrix’s incredible replicas of the Caterham Super Seven have featured here at TLCB several times in the last year (here, here, here and here), as we’ve supported the LEGO Ideas campaign to turn his model into an official LEGO set.

Well Carl’s hard work has paid off, as over 10,000 of you got behind the project to take it to the next stage of the review process, and LEGO have just announced that the Caterham Super Seven will become the next official LEGO set created via the Ideas platform.

Lego Ideas

We’re super excited about getting our hands on a Super Seven, and this also means that LEGO can add Caterham to their ever expanding list of official manufacturer sets, alongside Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Volvo.

You can read LEGO’s press release announcing the new Caterham Super Seven set via LEGO Ideas here,  or via the video below, and a super congratulations to Carl from all of us here at TLCB!

Feeling Hoth, Hoth, Hoth

Lego Starwars Rebel Base Hoth

‘Star Wars – The Force Awakens’ was a pretty good effort from Disney, but it lacked one of our favourite Star Wars-y things. No, not Natalie Portman (although it did indeed lack that), but the marvellous ice planet of Hoth. Luckily for us though, Marcus19840420 – who really needs a catchier Flickr name – has collaborated with a few other builders to create this epic mini-figure Hoth Rebel Base.

Lego Star Wars Hoth Rebel Base

There’s A-Wings, X-Wings, and a variety of other Star Wars-y equipment packed into the massive scene, along with a small army of Rebel mini-figures and some neatly realistic lighting. There’s lots more to see of this collaboration at Marcus’ photostream – click the link above to visit a galaxy far far away…
